Best list to combat spectre cell

By corwin666, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So, I just crushed Spectre cell twice yesterday. The tool for the job? Rancor. The cell really hated to go up against the Massive double black die monster. Now, I will again make the disclaimer that my opponent really didnt play very well, look at this post as a combination between sawing a mental seed and providing a feeling of hope in the Community! :)

Excellent! See I believe people are just jumping the gun. The sky isn't falling, you just need to get your roof checked.

Rancor with Loth Cats giving him tokens isn't a bad combo.

I'll be sure the next time I run into Spectre Cell to remind my opponent (s)he should play sub-optimally.

saw the mental seeds!

I do like the idea of the Rancor and loth cats with maybe a missile nexu, eGammoreans and Jabba or something to support. What else would you take besides all the Pummel and brawler cards? Maybe some healer type guards to add health and let him attack one more time?

C3PO for the Nexus also an eJawa for bringing in the droid. Beast tamer. Any good CC for creature if any...

I played rancor, ePigs, eJawa, C3PO, eQuay, Onar and Greedo in game 1 with brawler hunter defence command deck.

Are the Lothcats any good? I know what the nexu missile does

I've enjoyed playing a list that has two elite Nexu and a deployment of elite Lolcats. The cats can go first and give the nexu evade power tokens - not only do these count as both a block and an evade due to the Nexu's cunning, in conjunction with the white die it can help prevent the annoying Pierce 3 from the spectre lightsabres.

I feel like the rancor could be good against spectre just because most of their figures have to get close so you're going to get some licks in and maybe a Crush. I don't know if it would work against a lot of the other lists. It might work against Vader and Jets, but you'd have to roll well and they'd have to roll poor on a couple of spots (which is quite possible)

I was thinking something like this:

Rancor w/ rCats for double block token
eNexu w/ eCats for double evade token on Cunning
eJawa + C3PO for extra evade for eNexu on Cunning
Shyla so that Whip can trigger Parting Blow or extra movement can kick in Pummel
Beast Tamer so that Nexu can go back to C3PO or Rancor can move and then double attack

Diying Lunge
Face to Face
Ferocity
Fleet footed
Grisly Contest
Looking for a fight
Negation
Opportunistic
2xParting Blow
2xPummel
Take Initiative
Urgency
Worth Every Credit

Just an FYI: C-3P0 is difficult to trigger with a Nexu; the opponent generally can just target one of the Nexu's 2-3 spaces that are never adjacent to C-3P0. You would have to block LoS to those spaces, without blocking the adjacent ones.

you can only use one token at a time, so vs. a unit with pierce 3 you really need to block their surges. Weakened Spectres can't do enough damage.

Rancor

eGammorrean

eNexu

eLothcats

eJawa

R2D2 &3PO

Beast tamer & Indentured Jester

3 Crush NEW ORDERS

2 Dying Lunge

1Negation - Single Purpose - Pummel - Survival Instincts - Ferocity - Deathblow - strength in Numbers

0 Urgency - Take Inititive - Opportunistic - Element of Suprise - Celebration

I'm not sure about some of the cards. I love New Orders for my jawa to give my rancor or my Lothcats another round, I don't know that Parting Blow does much against Spectre, but its great against most smuggler lists. If the spectres are next to you, most will hit you til you die in my experience.

Rancor is great against them, double ejawa droid hunters list is insane too. Also chains of activations with DTs like DT > Thrawn > strength in numbers > DT > Hondo > Provoke > DT > Blaise (or again Thrawn with change of plans) etc. but that works good on every list I think. Just needs lots of draw with rule by fear, planning, officers training etc.

Any thrawn DT and ejets list is great too because it can have a lots of evade tokens and cancelling specters pierce make them weak.

this sounds like it would be good, but a lot of times the chaining doesn't always kill the figure or your figures are spent and the rest of Spectre mops up your list in exchange for 1 figure and you have no command cards left for zillo. I really wanted this to be good, but you're still better off with 2 sets of jump troopers and leaving the DT at home. They may be better than an officer if you have an extra point but not better than Rule by Fear and an officer. I don't think the DT are quite there and Blaise is just terrible unfortunately. Hondo +TempAll is too much to pay for him. Maybe Hondo and Greedo is worth the price of TempAll, but I don't know. Imperials unfortunately are stuck with too-good Vader and the all Riots squad

DT's are good because of the ability to give evade power tokens. Hondo + greedo are great but I'm using Hondo + Clawdite shapeshifter to have a second spy (and even more power tokens with senator shape). Blaise is obviously bad attacker so he's the one to play spy cards. It would probably better to build a chains on DT's and dewbacks etc. Just hope there will be some better 6 point leaders in future.

Hondo/Thrawn may be the two best 6 cost figures in the game

I haven't tried Hondo yet, but plan to this weekend likely. Thrawn is amazing. He's annoying as a support, but by third round you can bring him out and pack a punch, especially if he has a surge token.

Hondo is pretty great. By the third round when you bring Thrawn out, he has spammed enough tokens that everyone hits like a truck.

Onar has beef with this

oh man debate off!

That's a tough call, All 3 are really strong and bring unique things:

Onar has more health and Onar can buff other figures around him. With "Set for Stun" in the meta now, Onar's immune ability is stronger than ever. Onar's rush allows unmitigated damage, which is superb. Onar up close and personal can do more damage if the opponent pays VPs to negate Hondo's +2. Onar is a hunter so he can play the strongest attack cards in the game (stacking them for massive damage output). Also, if you attack guys next to Onar, beware of the possibility of his command card "Extra Protection" for an attack right back at you!

Hondo can play On the Lam, dodge, and his card also increases his survivability (while also increasing his damage output!). Hondo can generate VPs just by attacking or sitting in someone's house. Hondo has 5 speed, so he is great for running crates and getting to objectives or moving in and out of cover.

Thrawn gets stronger as the game goes on with tokens, and removing cards can be so crucial. His attack is the swingiest of the 3 but still strong especially with a surge token (which he can give to himself). He can attack at longer ranges than the other 2 with greater consistency. With a black die, he can't dodge, so imo he is the most fragile of the 3 figures at only 9 health and 4 speed.

In fact, why not run all 3 in one list :)!

Change of Plans woth Hondo/Thrawn and Strength in Numbers with all three makes this fun.

Yeah this would be a nuts combo: Elite Death Trooper -> Thrawn, Strength in Numbers, Elite Death Trooper -> Hondo :)

How do you think this deck would work against specter cell?

https://tabletopadmiral.com/imperialassault/lists/7322/

The droids being able to use Sorin's surges of stun and focus within two spaces could be really helpful against specter cell. They already roll a lot of surges, but with thrawn and an eDT, it would be hard for them to not stun the enemy.

I love it, but you're still playing at a severe disadvantage. Sorin is about 3pts overcosted with Advanced Sensors (which should have been built into his ability from the start) and worse, I think Ezra would be gunning to kill sorin (and can easily one-shot Him) so protecting Sorin will be a challenge.

Concentrated Fire, Armed Escort aren't bad either and I prefer them over Nav Upgrade and some others.
