With the failure on the hard check, he probably wouldn't know much on the subject, he might know a little bit from the history of the mandalorian wars, but it would only be along the lines of 'they have fighters ready to scramble if under attack, and they have some cannons'. For you disadvantage, I'm actually going to say you don't think they have much in terms of defence at all, perhaps that's why they were easy to attack. You'd assume most defenses are very short range and responsive, rather than preemptive stuff like scanners etc.

Wonder if I could use Knowledge (Warfare) or even Piloting (Space) using Intellect as the characteristic to see if he's wrong about that. I would think Walden would be doubtful.

I would say you could do an assist, as you'd be sort of helping him see his mistakes there.

If it's unskilled, just roll a blue and adjust the total accordingly, if it's a skilled, I guess the only way to do it would be to re-roll

Oh, I tried to see if I could calm both Kattadik and Gunda down with a Leadership check.
