Star Wars: Revan's War OOC

By Rabobankrider, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny Beginner Game

So, @Rabobankrider , should I reroll completely, or simply roll two more Yellow and a green? and add that into my latest roll?

I simply meant that both his Intellect and Mechanics skill blows Katiddik's out of the water, so, by RAW, I would be giving him the Boost die instead of the other way around. :huh:

What most of us have been doing is just picking one (Mechanics or Int) and using our other stat, since his stats are higher than all of ours combined...

That way he's still "teaching," and it's not like he's just making the check while you watch :)

Huh, thought on assisted checks, if someone was better skilled than you, you use one person's characteristic and the other person's skill.

Yeah, if one has a higher skill but the other has a higher characteristic.

Think of it as a kid being helped with homework. If the parent knows their stuff, it will really give the kid an advantage compared to if the kid knows more than the parent.

That's if one person has higher skill and the other has higher characteristic. If one person has both a higher skill and higher characteristic, then you do Unskilled Assistance, but that would be not appropriate to the theme of crafting you own lightsaber :) I guess I just thought that's why everyone was just using one of his stats instead of both!

Huh...I have to re-read page 34 of the Force and Destiny Core rulebook then, because this is what I got from it:

"Assistance works best when the assisting party brings additional insight or expertise to the task. When a character with a higher characteristic or skill rating provides assistance to another character, the dice pool may use one character’s characteristic and the other character’s skill rating."

Keep reading...

@satkaz , that's what I was going on as well

No matter what the rules are, I thought it was very appropriate and well handled!

Exactly, though I didn't really know what everyone else was doing.

Yes, but read further in the example, and then under Unskilled Assistance .

If the assisting party does not have a higher characteristic or skill rating, so that using either rating would provide no benefit to the other character, the GM may add 1 Boost die to the pool (representing the faxt that the additional assistance is still providing some benefit).

Well it depends on who is doing the assistance. If H-man is assisting us we only get one of his stats/skills if we're assisting him he gets a boost.

Since it's our check he helps us with one of our choosing since we all suck at everything.

@Stneu73 's got it

Yes, within the context of the story, I'm just talking game mechanics.

I used his four mechanics over Zoroku's 3 Int.

So, what do you want me to do about my last roll? re roll it entirely, or roll a couple of extra dice to add to the existing roll?

@Tramp Graphics @awayputurwpn

Ah, I see. Again, I was under the assumption that Huyang was the assistant, not the one making the lightsaber, so assisted checks would apply.

It's just using one his Mechanics or Int to boost yourself.

This was handled well within the game mechanics. Note in the text you quote: "assisting party," "the GM may..."

@Tramp Graphics , that's up to you really, I'd personally say just roll a couple of extra for ease, but if you want t re-roll you can. And @Shlambate 's right. You guys are building the lightsabers and H. is helping, so that's the way it works.

Yes. Sorry for any confusion. I was replying to @Tramp Graphics with regards to how assisted checks were being handled, and I believe I have sufficiently muddled the matter!

TL;DR, everything's fine here, nothing to see, move along... :)

Storywise, he is the Assistant. but, because we all suck, his characteristic and skill are what is used, and we provide Unskilled Assistance to that roll. instead of him providing Skilled Assistance.

I'd rather just roll a couple of extra dice and add them to my existing roll (I like that Triumph). What dice and how many more do I need to roll?

This is bordering on rules lawyering and we need to drop it. GM already spoke on the matter.

Not a problem. I just needed to figure out everything myself too.

To anyone looking at Zoroku's sheet and wondering why he is an AOR character, I wanted Knowledge Warfare and FAD doesn't give that too me. I know its expensive because it will always have a +5 xp penalty but I want Zoroku to know the Art of War! ;)
