L5R Local Community Groups

By Mirith, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

For those living in DC/MD/VA, there's a Facebook group called Nova L5R LCG. I know Curio Cavern (in Springfield, Virginia), The Island Games (in Centreville, Virginia), and Huzzah Hobbies (in Ashburn, Virginia) are all holding Launch Parties, and plan to support Organized Play for L5R.

Anyone in Phoenix or the East Valley planning/have a group set up? Googling "Phoenix L5R" is unsurprisingly pretty useless, even when adding "playgroup" or the like to it.

Look up "Arizona L5R" on Facebook. There are about 40 of us on there. Seems like IO is going to have dedicated support, and several of us are getting together this Sunday at Games U around noon to have some proxy deck fun.

Actually, I just confirmed that there will be a community of Legend of the Five Rings players in Fresno, CA. Crazy Squirrel will be getting the game in and there has been quite a bit of interest. According to the guy who works there, their LCG night is Monday and they'll be planning on holding monthly tournaments.

For those in the SF/Bay Area:

My friend will be running the release event at Endgame in Oakland.

I spoken with someone at Gamescape SF and they said they will most likely be running a release event there as well.

Pittsburgh PA here. Looking to form up a group around Drawbridge Games in the South Hills are.

A bit out of my way. I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo. But an hour or so won't be too bad for some good organized play. A few shops in my area will be carrying it but I'm not sure it there will be a decent community for it yet.

I'm also in KW and would love a game group playing l5r. Been hoping for a play group for many LCGs in the region, but they never seem to exist. *shakes fist at Magic the Gathering*

Looks like all points in the SF Bay Area are getting launch coverage.

I'm playing at Ronin Games in Castro Valley; they have a complete launch event and are taking pre-orders ( FB event page )

Galaxy Games in Dublin is having a launch event as well.

In the South Bay area, I've heard that Isle of Gamers might get a launch kit. Also, if you're nearby and haven't joined yet, there's an L5R Pacific discord with a norcal specific thread in it. https://discord.gg/BCE7Ta

Once the release date hits I will try to put together an Indianapolis facebook group.

Anyone in D.C?

We have a Heroes of Rokugan group. Even if you're not into RPGs it's still a way to connect with the local l5r community.

I've sent messages on Facebook to all the game stores in Kitchener. Flint's CCG has said he's going to stock it and try out the first few OP events, and see how much traction there is. Just gotta try and get the word out! They're the only one though, sadly.

You're right though, MTG has killed interest in any other game in the area.

Indianapolis has two stores with active groups already! The Game Preserve - Greenwood on the south side and Family Time Games on the Northwest side both have groups. Here is the link to our FB group:

Any Chance that a Mod can Sticky this post. Definitely seems like the kind of information a brand new player might be seeking on their first visit to these forums.

Seems unlikely. Mods don't really interact with the forums unless there is a problem.

And to answer the previous requests to update the opening post, there is too much going on here for me to bother with it. If someone else wants to do it, I will be happy to link to your post.

I'm considering putting together a site that will act as an event/play group finder. Still working out how to make it work.

The site will be listed by state with stores, events and contact info for the local group. I will link to FB groups as well.

I will have a section on finding online games as well.

I started a similar effort to this thread on the /r/l5r subreddit, and the results, along with an index of launch stores, can be found here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/l5r/wiki/community/regional-groups

https://www.reddit.com/r/l5r/wiki/community/launch-stores

i'll be going through this thread to add any here that i don't already have as well.

The Indianapolis group you linked in Reddit has 5 members, this one has 28 members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/299343830532198/

Also for Indianapolis: The Game Preserve - Greenwood on the south side has ordered 20 boxes of the core set and is running the release events (source: I'm helping with it and the manager told me about his order personally).

Thanks for setting this up @cielago !

Black Moon Games have two stores in New England, and will be supporting the game at each. Check them out on Facebook under 'Black Moon Gamers'.

The Rutland, VT store (www.black-moon-games-vt.com) is running their Launch Event on Saturday, October 7th. More details can be found on the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1922544918019394/

The Lebanon, NH store (www.black-moon-games.com) is theirs on Sunday, October 8th. The Facebook event for this can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/112099676132579/

I'm happy to offer help and answer questions - this is my FLGS, and they've done a fantastic job of supporting L5R and LCGs.

We are organizing a new playgroup in Portland Oregon.

Getting ready to do our first event. A Launch Tournament at Guardian Games ( http://www.ggportland.com/ ).
