I hope you know the best 2 ships list out there is now 2x T65?

It is making a splash in Poland right now, so I'll assume the rest of the world will acknowledge it later ;)

Are there any tricks or things to keep in mind playing with/against it? Asking for a friend...

This is the kind of list you cannot make single mistake, so you won't see it very popular around. Plus 4+ ships give it a hard time, especially with that massively underpriced Leia.

Having flown double Defenders a bit, I miss the simplicity of having 2 powerful, manoevrable bastards that can split up 50/50 and run a wild goose chase. If you split unfavourably against them, it's steeply uphill. If you fail to focus one effectively before it escapes, similar.

I'd like it to be a viable archetype. Of a sort.

This sounds like "I make an easy decision and then you make hard decisions or you lose", which doesn't sound particularly fun for the other player

Not that it matters much because it's extended but what do you all think of the IG88 list that went 4-2 in the Toronto system opens, I think it had 4lom as well.

Was it more the surprise factor that helped with its wins or is there something to it?

Iggy lists occasionally did alright even on old points

They're in the same realm as Sloane, where for some reason the cycle is: 4 people bring them to an event, one does decently, everybody says "neat" and then goes back to ignoring them, until the next event where it happens again

it's a mysterious property

I've been paired against Bartosz W in the vassal tournament, with my 5 Awings. I think I can take Wedge out with only 1 ship lost, but I doubt I can touch Luke...

Isn't faction diversity a good thing? Are we mad that rebels have different archetypes than imperial?

What is the Imperial archetype now anyway? I have lost it or not seen what I thought it was, and cannot see it, and therefore haven't grasped it.

Flying 2 small bases, that split up/goose chase decision is the only easy one you get to make.

But you're right, for people flying Bomber/Punisher, truck forward, throw rockets/bombs, turn, drop more bombs, throw more rockets type lists, it was no fun at all, which kinda put me off it.

But their decision making was a darn sight easier than mine, as is the nature of those type of lists. Just that all their options could be made bad. You make your own bed with that kind of thing imo.

Maybe with wedge. Luke has the biggest mistake fixing card in the game on him.

Not enough data to say what it is. Except on extended. Then it's phantoms

That's not exactly an archetype is it?

Sad but perhaps true.... it’s not your father’s Empire anymore.

On the plus side, every Phantom seems legit to play? Imdaar, Sigma, Echo and Whisper, all relevant?

I’d say the Empire archetype is fragile and agile, optionally with crew shuttle support.

Strikers, Interceptors, Phantoms, X1’s, v1’s, even the /ln. All fit the idea of ships that rely more on not taking shots. Munitions ships can take a shot or two, but they’re mostly the exception. The near complete lack of shields makes their faction the one most susceptible to crits.

Empire also has quite powerful crews. I don't think a squad should take more than one of them due to cost, but they are good.

Phantoms do look like solid chassis, but the other chassis look very meh in comparison —which explains their popularity even with poor choices to fill the gunner slot— to what you get in Rebs and Resist. I just don’t see stock worth investing in looking across the factions.

Don't worry, as a Rebel I look at the Imperial aces and wish I had access... Then of course there's Resistance, the best of both worlds. Imperial ace type in Rebel durability.

There's advantages to not faction locking myself. I can jump over and use whatever ships I want. Well, most of them anyway.

This.... I haven't the complete 2.0 upgrade goods on any faction save FO -a gift from a friend (he thought it would be the new Interceptor Ace faction)- so I am looking over all of them. It seems, as an Ace first kinda guy, the T-70s look like the bomb. I'm no fan of the ship (original trilogy guy here) but I could overlook that for the maneuverability and punch. T-65s are more maneuverable now too though, they look better than TIE/Interceptors other than Fel who looks like great filler. Anyway, we'll see..... but I agree with you @LagJanson

Poe is actually really entertaining. Who knew that Soontir with more health, more upgrades, push the limit, secondary weapons, and slam could be so much fun.

No?

It's a technique or method, or tactic if we want to sound a bit pretentious. Anyone list can do that in principle.

In principle, maybe. In practice, eeehhhhh.

The way that a Phantom moves, with decloaking, hard turns, and barrel rolls makes them pretty nearly unique in their ability to stay mostly still, but also in a formation where they can leave the castle and go on the offensive, like the Rohirrim charging forth from the Hornburg. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath. Now for ruin. And a red dawn.

I guess anything with a 1-hard and a barrel roll can kinda do it. But self-bumping doesn't really work anymore. And most lists/ships have too much forward momentum, or else have to do odd stuff like K-Turn, which will leave much bigger gaps and timing openings for an opponent to attack at the weakest.

Since you are playing 2 ships, aren't you usually better with han and wedge?

Is ps 5 supernatural a better arcdodger than large base ps 6 boost?

Against Kylo/Tavson? Yes.

against 5Y? No.

[Top 50 Invitational Final]

That was a great match. Very nice eyes on that boost by the asteroid to get Tallie for the win, Mr. Phil Horny! Congrats!
