Biggs is good, even in non-box style formations. In fact, might be better weaving in and out of arcs to help spread the damage more.

Look, I’ve taken TIE swarms for a spin. I’ve been running the 5 3 dice + Del Meeko since before the points change (and god was that frustrating with all the 4 ship I4-5 ordinance out there). The flat reality is that there is a strong element of luck to it. And it can just struggle against random lists.
Both swarm types are typically 6 ships, but with comparable firepower. And they have an issue where you pretty much have to assume you will lose a ship before it shoots. Possibly two.
So in a tournament it will bleed MOV, will lose randomly due to variance, can really struggle against several of the top tier aces and really gets pounded by the double tap Y swarm. The TIE/ ln synergies may not make up the difference, and the strikers mobility is hard to maximize.
I’ve done alright with my striker swarm, technically 3 Sentinels and 2 Alpha Interceptors with Del, but if that initial engage goes strongly against you, it is pretty much game. You need to get the initial engage right, and sell out to get one ship. Spread arcs and become impossible to dodge, jam up a few ships to try and get blocks. I have an approach that can work, and consider myself quite good at range control, but it is a tough list to do well with.
Which is why o don’t think you see TIE swarms often. Even when flown we’ll victory is not in your control. Do everything right, and you can and will just lose sometimes. Luke can survive a poor initial engagement and get around to try again. Most triple ace lists have enough tricks that they can trade an unfortunate early result and keep plugging. But the swarms, if it goes bad, can lose two+ ships, in exchange for minimal damage back. And now your numbers are even, and they put initiative you with more health/ mobility.
Its not impossible to come back from that, but it is unlikely. Which is why they don’t see a lot of top tournament play I think, the odds of having at least one game have high variance bad outcomes for you becomes quite probable, and combined with MoV bleed, I think players shy away from it to have making the cut more firmly within their control.

Yea hes worth it even just to protect 1 other ship in your list. Doesnt have to be in a box formation to be worth his points.

I think people are doing that wrong. It's kind of like 1.0 QD...people wouldn't shoot her for fear of reprisal being worse than what you'd gain from taking the shot. I think, in the similar Tavson situation, you have to be prepared for him to be your target, even if you really want to target something else, because your opponent will probably be working hard to make it so you can't ignore Tavson. Be patient and don't over-commit. If Tavson has more than 1-2 quality shots the whole game, really think about what you could have done to change that.

I'm the same way. I actually like flying TIE Fighters. I don't really want to formation fly, though, so it's fly something I don't like or overpay for TIE Fighters.

Either you have had at some point a list/combination of ships you were interested in but didn't invest time because of unclear ceiling.
Or you are not meant.
That doesn't change that the mentality you displayed contributes to more stale meta.

I think a mining guild swarm might be worth. Even in hyperspace you can easily fit a miniswarm with Fenn or a 7-8 ships with a options. 7 i1s with seevor stripping the targets token might have some utility?

Specifically, the Imperial list options skyrocket. I can see Vermiel irritating Poe, Maarek wrecking the low-shields of a Y-Wing in range for Ion, Foslo pulling some maneuver shenanigans on all that I3- field. Sabaac and Countdown seem a lot more powerful, especially as control pieces. And--dare i speak it--Duchess has a chance!

I thought it was very interesting when @Brunas said something along the lines of "I don't want to play right now because the meta isn't solved and nobody knows what's good" in one of the recent episodes.
Different fun types I guess, but figuring out what works or making something work is fun to me.
I think a LOT of long-timers are a bit burnt out right now, for whatever reason.
New content is generally exciting, and re-prints generally are not (when it comes to competitive play).
Maybe some long-timers simply got spoiled by running such high powered "win-button" lists in 1.0, and those lists are simply not here in 2ed.
I have actually run into several such people. It's just a gaming mindset thing. Not really their fault.
It just is what it is. If they value the community and the process, they'll come and play and maybe experiment, too. Otherwise, they'll probably take a break or wait for the next boogieman to surface for them to run at a tourney.

I've run the deep-bid Res aces...and promptly regretted it the moment I faced a 200pt FO aces list.
Turns out double 5s with an awesome bid can't do anything about double 6s.
