Love that we're up to four factions, but I'm still waiting on the announcement of other product besides the core set and dice. Even an announcement of a product that won't be out till Q3 would be enough.

The wave 1 units were previewed at gencon alongside the core set, musicians, standard bearers and characters.

I'm excited to see more than just the two factions, but it kind of bothers me that all four wont be available at launch.

I'm a big fan of Elves and don't have the money to waste on a faction I don't want.

Now I won't be able to play at launch with all the other people, and when the Latari are finally released I'm going to be way behind.

Maybe someone will feel pity on me and let me borrow some until the Latari come out.

Why not buy the starter play small games to learn the rules and then when latari come out sell off your core units but keep the starter components so that you have the templates and tokens in the case that the two other armies are just stand alone expansion armies?

I feel you, I'll be mainly investing in the Uthuk Y'llan and I'd need to check with my friend what faction he would prefer.

Further, we already have one character that let's you take units from other armies, I'm sure there will be more, maybe an Elf that let's you use a unit of knights

And if I can bring an Uthuk Y'llan army with some of Waiqars reanimates as regenerating fodder I'll be really pleased! If the Uthuk Y'llan work like the other games they'll be sacrificing theirselves to do more damage, some undying infantry would really help to even that out.

I don't see the undead as being very diplomatic.

Crap. Elves. Now I might have to check this game out.

You haven't followed the background then. They've managed to get Daqan nobles to serve them in exchange for power, money and vampirism. They've corrupted various factions and heroes. They've allied with the Uthuk in the past and even helped against the dragon lords during the second darkness

The undying are just playing the long game. This is supported in games like runewars the boardgame, and various other games (runeage, descent, etc). Additionally, fun fact, morale affects the undying, they can be made to rout (in all their IP games), they're not just machines powered by magic.

Some debate on that, they might be the giant cats (Leonx) that they rock in the boardgame.

And to continue that debate, I think they look too shaggy to be feline. I asked my coworkers, too, and they said it definitely looks more canine than feline. Now, maybe they will retcon Leonx to look like that, but until they do, I would classify it as a new beast.

EDIT: But okay, let's say for argument's sake that it is a Leonx. If that's true, then I submit that the Elf warrior is Lana. She is the elf in the beginning of the Runewars: Banners of War expansion rule booklet. We know she is a female elf warrior that rides a Leonx, so if FFG is trying to tie these heroes to previous properties (like Ravos and Ardus), then there is a good chance that this is Lana.

So then, would we now have names for all the heroes on the poster:

Kari Wraithstalker
Ardus Ix'Erebus
Ravos the Everhungry
Lana

The other great thing about this will be that it will give me even more custom ideas (and figures) to use in my games of Battlelore :-D

How many factions are there in this universe?

Six, in recent years. Some argue that Battlemist and the original Discwars should be included, which would inflate the numbers, but I'm not familiar with those games. From Rune Age, Runewars, and Descent, we have

The Daqan Lords
The Uthuk Y'llan
Waiqar the Undying
The Latari Elves
Orcs of the Broken Plains
Dunwarr Dwarves

Latest count via Rune age is 6. Uthuk, Daqan, Latari, Undying, Orcs of the shattered plain, Dunwarr Dwarves.

In other properties, they have various mysterious far away lands touching on arabian nights style themes, jungles, and vikings in arctic lands. In previous games like Diskwars, you also had Dragonlord (who were awesome) and Demons.

And to be fair, dragonlords and demons are in lots of their stuff, but they are not playable factions... Could easily make even more factions down the road or neutrals.

Like I said, they were in Diskwars. I'm not saying they'll go that route again, just that it would be cool if they did

IF the game gains enough popularity over the years, I could see 8 factions easy. I think 4 is a good modest start out of the gate to try and build a strong platform. Seeing the interview with the CEO and the promo material confirming the 4 factions really just cemented my belief that FFG is here to stay with this game and not just trying to test the waters.

I'm definitely going to buy some large hex tiles and play a large version of battlelore!

I hope one of the two choices of stores I have in the area sticks with the Organized Play. One of them already ordered their kits, but said they haven't heard back if they were accepted into the Intro Adventure promotion or not on release.

They'll make it as evil mercenaries that elves can also hire.

I just hope the Orcs come out soon... Daqan Lords interest me a bit, but the Orcs interest me the most and I don't want to have two separate armies.
