The End of Talisman

By chemical22, in Talisman

There is still a good selection, including Deep Realms, at Paizo.com. Currently it looks like they have everything except Cataclysm and the other POD.

...and the City.

I highly doubt it. And for I think the second time ever agree with uvatha, who cares about the Timescape? Lol. I would be extremely surprised if we see anything talisman related within the next ten years and would not be surprised at all to never see another talisman product. I love talisman but I do not think that it could ever be completed more completely and then some than 4th edition has done.

Wooo steady on there Joker. I never said I didn't care about Timescape, just there is no need for it to complete 4th ed. Where as the connector - that's something that's needed.

Also don't be too quick with your thoughts about what's around the corner for Talisman. People were saying the same about Black Industies losing 4th ed then BOOM FFG came in.

There's just been soooooo much.

Here I am, late to the party - - again.

This is sadness, of a sort. As I don't post here as often, it dove-tails with the fact that I am not playing very much Talisman, either, ssssadly as well!

Just too busy. But I always hoped that the Connector between Wood and High-lands would happen, so I guess I will be interested in those developments.

My son ended up buying the DE with the season pass and we played once or twice. I may have to end up going there as well, I guess.

One thing is, in a digital realm there would be endless room for an Ocean - - and a Timescape (which I did/do like, very much - but would want to see it come to modern like the other expansions have). So perhaps a Season 2 for DE would include, Harbinger, Cataclsym, the Wood to High land thingee and Ocean, Timescape and who knows what else.

So keep the faith, I guess.

There's just been soooooo much.

So much of what? Timescape? Talisman Expansions?

Expansions.

Well, that's disappointing. Guess I have a little over five months to buy up all the expansions I don't have yet, because I'm not about to pay the super-inflated after-market prices sellers will be demanding after February.

Still, as saddening as this is, the game at least had a good run, and FFG gave us several months' notice for those of us who need to round out our collections--another series I enjoy was cancelled earlier this summer, and that company gave the fans neither of those concessions. There was no explanation and, more importantly, absolutely no warning at all, and the shoddy treatment made me mad as hell. I think it's telling that I don't feel at all angry about Talisman's end, only sad that something else I enjoy is coming to an end.

I would not count on months to get these. Reports on BGG and my own observation has shown these are flying off the shelves!

... ffg isn't doing pod for deep realms anymore ...

Blast! I was just thinking to myself "OK, don't panic, you have 'till the end of february to get everything you're missing"...

Now I'm panicking. Is it even possible to get Deep Realms anymore? Since they don't keep stock (print-on-damand) and they don't print it anymore...

Any suggestions?

Edit: Apparently shortenning of "damnation" is filtered as an f-word :)

I would panic. See my post above!

So...here is a question (with commentary first)

1. We know that Nomad Games has the license to continue and seems to plan on publishing the expansions for Talisman 4th Edition Revised.

2. We also know that the game rights revert back to Games Workshop

3. GW produces board games now (and in the past). Previously it was under Black Industries, which is where we got Talisman 4th Edition.

4. Specialist Games (a section under GW) is gearing up to produce some stuff (i.e Blood Bowl is making a return).

Could we dare hope...that instead of fan made section, that GW Specialist Games will reissue all Talisman 4th Edition Revised in mass and finish up with the connector between Highlands and Woodlands, along with a version of Timescape.

Could we also dare hope that with Nomad Games making digital versions, that perhaps it may never make it print, could they create the connector and Timescape?????

I read that Games Workshop was already looking for companies to take licenses on some of the games in this list at a previous convention or something similar.

I think it's more likely for a Talisman 5th edition to be made.

Could they create the connector and Timescape?????

Why Timescape? All we need is the connector.

Sure some people didn't like Timescape, but a glance even in this thread shows some people do want it, including me!

As for Timescape, see the above post I wrote.

Yep, Gamesworkshop could give sell the licence to another company. Plus I too enjoyed Timescape just "like I said before" 4th ed does not need it.

Another thought is that Gamesworkshop might want to reboot Warhammer or continue Age of Crapmar Sigmar, so they might do 5th ed with that background.

I really don't see the point of a possible 5th edition. 4th edition is pretty damned good. A new edition would probably be worse, just like comparing third edition to second edition. Time will tell i suppose.

As an example, the day of the announcement I repurchased the dungeon because my current dungeon board is damaged. It was $23 on amazon. Two days later I decided I wanted a backup/sealed everything. The dungeon was $27. Four days later and the dungeon is now up to $31. These things will always be available on eBay but the prices will likely inflate, unless you get thoroughly used items.

I agree, at least not right away. It's too close in time to this spectacular 4th edition.

What I would like to see most is a fifth edition where everything is planned out before the first component is released, along with a tentative schedule for when all of the expansions will be out. That way the early stuff is perfectly compatible with the later editions. Take the time to plan it out, fix the few small issues that exist with 4th edition, and put out the ultimate edition.

I do agree a connector between Highland and Woodlands would sort of wrap 4e nicely.

Though seeing Timescape (love it or hate it) and perhaps a Return of the Dragon 3d Crown of Command would be helpful.

@Oberon - and not to be remiss...the Ocean project we've discussed in other threads is a must do.

In regards to pricing now...I have most of the expansion save Cataclysm. Thought about buying it the day the FFG/GW Divorce went public. The next day or two it was up up from like $31 to $65. ugghh..Now it's floating around $60.

I put off buying Cataclysm myself when it was released, waiting for a sale. But when this announcement was released I decided to buy it right away. I found a copy on Amazon Prime for $40 with tax and no shipping (so $40 total). One of my meetup people has Prime so she bought it for me.

I also had put off buying the last Relic expansion, but about 2 months ago I did find it on sale so I recently got that.

The only thing I was interested in and have not gotten is Fury of Dracula, but have never played the game so I decided to let it slide.

Will kain7th keep making "rate this character out of 10" posts?

That's the burning question isn't it :) .

I found Fury of Dracula good but clearly overrated when I tried my frinds copy. I only have abut 10 games and fury is definitely one that would end up in the back of the shelf.

The new Mansions of madness on the other hand, that's boardgaming at it's best!

I figured 4th Revised was over, anyway.

I look forward to Fifth Edition! There's plenty that FFG did that could be folded into a new revised game by GW (or licensee), and I'd personally prefer a much smaller main board, similar to classic Talisman.

In the meantime, do you guys have a Steam group for Talisman Digital? I've never tried the multiplayer and I figure it would be best with some Talisman enthusiasts.

Cataclysm and its new rules would have made a great kickoff for a 5th edition.

I do, but every time I try playing with other people the game goes crazy slow. I think it's an issue with my computer, since other people don't seem to have that problem.
