SirWilli's Workshop: Armada stuff

By SirWillibald, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi everybody,

for those of you who have never heard of me, I'm a crazy guy with too much spare time and an obsession for pimping board games. Among other things I did a lot of stuff for Armada (Tuckboxes, MicroHangars, GearBoxes, ...), you can check everything out on my homepage (which you can switch to english) or just head to the download area for Armada.

For those of you thinking "No, not that freak again!", sorry for opening a new thread, but I'm beginning to lose track of my various other threads. From now on I will post any news regarding any stuff I did for Armada here. Here we go. News time:

After a special request on BGG, I did a bunch of boxes to hold multiple squad hangars and other things. You can find more infos and pictures in the SpecialBoxes section from Armada on my site. You will also find a sub page with lots of preview pictures and explanations.

Happy crafting!

SirWilli

Thanks for posting this!

Awesome!

Great work as always :)

I was wondering, do you think it would be possible to make hangar for ships mounted on their base?

Most excellent, sir!

I love your command bridge idea!!!

Though there is one thing about it that would make it problematic for use in tournaments - the backs of the damage cards are facing the opponent. This means if they use an ability or an objective that allows face down cards to flip face up it gives them an advantage in knowing what kind of damage they will be causing.

The damage cards laying down doesn't feel appropriate with the theme of the box, could a cowl/wall be put around the sides and back of the damage holder?

Really awesome work!

I am absolutely loving the damage box you have created. I am a big fan of organization and this touches all the right buttons. I am unable to get the upgrade tuckboxs to download though. I keep getting an error (on all versions) that the "file is broken and cannot be repaired". Is it just me? I look forward to print and constructing them soon. Thank you so much for all of your hard work! They really are great!

A big thanks to all of you for your encouraging words! Make's the whole thing so much more enjoyable!

Hmm, I created a new download area yesterday on my site (hopefully the files can be found more easy this way). Still not working?

I started printing these out last night, I've got all the Ship MicroHangars and GearBoxes built and sorted and I've got the core set Squadron MicroHangars to do tonight. They're absolutely awesome, best thing I've found for organising my collection. I'm going to be doing the same with my X-Wing stuff (saw the X-Wing MicroHangars you'd uploaded to BGG) once Armada is finished.

Thanks for making these, they're brilliant!

At our first tournament last weekend, someone had the damage deck box, which I liked.

I just folded and glued one together tonight. I'll see if it fits in the morning. :-)

EDIT: It's good. It fits the FFG-sleeved cards quite snugly and fits in my Plano box. It also keeps them from sliding all over the place during play. Superb!

Yes it would, but at the moment I don't see myself investing time into this, mainly because it would require a complete(!) re-design of all(!) hangars - which is a huge effort - and because it would take away a significant part of the efficient storage benefit, because this would mean to box quite a lot of air. But I'll add it to my list under "When bored:"… :)

Already heard about that. Honestly I didn't design those for tournaments, cause I'm no tournament player at all. Have you tried simply turning the holders sideways and placing in next to the play area, instead of in front of you? I do this all the time, so they don't get in the way.

But it would save on the time to assemble minis to play! So should be added under "Top Priority" list ;)

And then you open your oversize hangar eager to play instantly with your Nebulon-B escort frigate only to realize that some goof has put a support frigate into the box instead. Say goodbye to your spare time... ;)

But okay, I'll remove the "bored" part, it's on my list, but I can't promise anything (redesigning three boxes is annoying but doable, but I fear the X-Wing guys over at the other forum might get funny ideas...)

You, Sir, are awesome! Thank you very much!

Yeah but what if it's the wrong pilot card on the base? You'll end up taking it apart anyway.

First of all THANK YOU!! secondly , I'm sure this has been discussed but what's the recommended paper stock that seems to be the sweet spot for these beauties? Thanks again , awesome work!

I use 199 gsm/110lb index stock. It works really well, but on the bigger boxes that have reinforcement panels, you'll want to use them.

SirWilli,

Just got home from work and tried again. Still getting the same error. I might just have to try and other computer and see if that helps at all. Again though, awesome work. Danke!

You could try that, but go here: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/116182/tuckboxcollection

if you look for the upgrade boxes.

Anybody else had problems? I just downloaded all three upgrade card tuckbox files from here: http://www.sirwillibald.com/?page_id=710〈=en

and had no problems at all. Please send me a PM so I can investigate.

Perfect! The BGG site worked splendidly! Now off to the print shop to start construction. Looks like I have a weekend project.

Is it strange that I've been spending an hour or two every night cutting and folding these things? Got all my armada stuff in the microhangars and tuckboxes, and now my X-wing scum ships.. and part of me is itching to make gearboxes, at least, for the dials and tokens for all of my other ships that are packed in KR foam.. ..

I swear.. I can quit any time I want...

LOL. I've been spending the last few days getting my second core set boxed up. Of course, there's also nothing like going to score the tabs on a box only to find that you've left the cutting wheel on your wife's cutting board  .
