A sword with a curved edge can have more weight put behind it, increasing it`s cutting ability against a lightly armoured opponent. Katanas however have never been the be all end all.

Whaaaaaaat? A person who likes Star Wars on the internet ALSO likes swords? This is unprecedented!

Yeah I've studied the 15th century fechtbuche (Talhoffer's codex to be exact) specifically for sword and hand and a half sword over the last decade or so. I own a real longsword, and a real bastard sword, by real i mean full tang, proper metal, properly sharpened, live steel combat ready blades.

I believe the above adequately qualifies me to talk about this subject.

Most of the above is correct, a sword is a sidearm (with the exception of some zweihanders of course, the claymore was a horsekiller/unhorser). Clashing swords or bashing armour with a sword is dumb, hand and half levering methods to get into the joints or faceplate was the way to go, wrestling made up for most fights at this point, blunt weapons/lances were more effective - shield walls too earlier on.

A Katana is a sword. It is made out of cheap crappy metal so it has to be folded as it is to make it stand up as superior to weapons made of the same metal around it.

Katana's, Dao and Scimitars - the curved swords are amazing vs lightly and non armoured foes because the curve gives more cut. They evolved differently from straight blades. Most Samurai and the like focused their training on bows and horseback. The horse was often the most expensive and important thing a Lord owned in Medieval Europe - possibly asia also (my history for non europe is a lot thinner).

I posted on this regarding an off topic thread re: the light-broadsword (and while why I loved it, it was firmly in the awesome but impractical realm).

TL:DR: ranged combat has always ruled the battlefield in some form or another. slings, spears both thrown and for range advantage/on a horse or dehorsing, bows, guns. Sword is a handy sidearm but that's all.

It's always had a hyperdrive. "Into Darkness", with Hera and Sabine travelling to that base with the light sensitive monsters, is evidence of this. though, it was neat that the Imperials named dropped the VCX.

Good episode. Hera is indeed, the best. And some nice nods to the EU in there.

That's why they fell out of hyperspace in a later episode (the one right after empire day). It's why they were able to fool the empire in that episode.

Actually the ghost already being in hyperspace meant the phantom couldn't use its hyperdrive to just 'jump' away from the ship. They had to undock before dropping out. Basically it's like something got knocked off of a ship while still at lightspeed, I think the same thing would happen to an X-wing carried on an external docking rack if it undocked while its carrier was in hyperspace.

It was highly situational, and it's just a cooncidence that we have not seen the phantom make a jump separately from the ghost until now.

Well, just because we've SEEN the A and B first, doesn't mean the X doesn't exist yet.

In the old canon, it was designed and prototypes built for the Empire, and Incom as a company defected and took their stuff with them. So we could see something similar maybe next season. The family help the company defect or something.

You know what though? I never felt the X-wing designed for the empire felt right.

Aesthetic, style and purpose of the ship all really wrong compared to Imperial styles.

Unless the X-wing was the F22 to the XG-1's F23, and they actively competed for the same "hyperspace raider and patrol" slot.

Also: New cannon: Really, REALLY heavy laser cannon (B-wing only).

I like how every ship supposedly gets fried passing through the atmosphere of that planet, and they never bother to explain how they got back OFF the planet with the Phantom and the B-Wing without either being disabled...

This card would probably have to cost 12 points, since it would practically one-shot something like an X-Wing or a TIE Fighter. But the Ion and stress tokens would definitely mimic a loss of control on a craft.

Sheeeeeeeeeeit! I can't tell if that's supposed to be the Ion Cannon, or an entirely new weapon.Either way, they basically turned the B-Wing into a tiny Death Star. It 2-shotted a light cruiser.On a side-note. That S&V Gozanti has been showing up in quite a few episodes lately.

It's funny how new canon has seemingly flipped the starship development order. With A-Wings and now B-Wings seemingly existing before the X-Wing.

We've only seen Fulcrum's rebel fleet in action, we haven't seen Bail Organa's Alderaan forces yet. I expect the X-wings will be considered old a beat up by the time we see them. And they should be flying next to Y-wings in their premier. Probably at the end of this season or beginning of the next.

Also the converging B-wing wave motion gun is an HLC...with focus and TL.

Turns out, that the rebel cells we see on A New Hope and Rebels are seperate, and the x-wings and y-wing were used by that cell at the same time that Phoenix squad were using A- and maybe soon B-wings.

Now about the episode, the blade wing (prototype b-wing) seems faster and more maneovreable than what we currently have in the game. Also, seems to default as the E2 variant. Granted, this is a prototype and a production model would be different, but the new lore and the old seems very contradictory concerning the speed and manoeuvreability of the craft.

Well being a prototype, I think for mass production Quarrie would have to change things. So maybe it turns out too expensive and unmanageable to build them all with the super-cannon and the gunner position (in a diff place then the E2 upgrade, we've never seen a B-Wing with a gunner seat at the other end before)

Plus yes, it SEEMED more maneuverable, but that's only because we've never actually seen a B on screen doing stuff apart from flying towards a death star. It definitely isn't as fast or maneuverable on the show as the As, or the TIE fighters or Advance. Vader literally spun on a dime and started flying backwards.

When she flew up in the air, then flipped and came back down I totally saw that as the B's 2-K Plus, game balance > looking cool for a TV show.

At least they confirmed that the other clones stayed behind and got to use the captured AT-AT (or whatever that model would be called). Although that means we won't have fan fictions of the clones cooking giant bug casserole in the rebel galley.

The Blade Wing prototype almost seems like a Gundam-type prototype where its capabilities far surpass the later production run model. At least the BFG isn't perfected in he episode, perhaps meaning that the later B-wings are never armed with it...they never figured out how to keep it from draining the hypedrive.

And Phantom is best hyperdrive ring.

I think, as far as Hera's reaction is concerned at least, she normally flies a freighter. So, by comparison, the B-Wing seems fast and maneuverable to her.And even setting that aside, B-Wings were considered pretty agile...for a heavy fighter. Certainly moreso than the Y-Wing.

Just for the sake of consistent terminology, that type of weapon where multiple energy beams converge to form a single super-powerful beam is normally referred to as Composite-Beam in Star Wars.

Not just the PC game, but the West End Games RPG long before that.

...for those of us who watching 'Rebels' every week marvel at how much like the old WEG RPG the show feels like...this was just icing on the cake.

No verpine appears in this chapter, but basically they just recruited the original moncalamarian designer, that seems ready to re-desing the prototype into the production model we know.

That rebel cell seems quite fond of using corelian corvettes, so I wouldn't be surprised that the corvette named Shantipole that gave name to the research project is one of those.

That leaves it open for the designer to use the verpine from Roche to manufacture the Blade-Wings. They don't seem to be rewriting the canon that much.

The only difference is that the mon calamari designer isn't Ackbar. But he couldn't be anyway in this timeline, because Ackbar joined the Alliance much later, when he was rescued from being a servant of Tarkin.
