STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

Can you guys even imagine the outrage if they touch ToR era stuff? It has so dedicated fans that would see any change (no matter how apropriate) as sacrilege.

Quite frankly, that's exactly why they shouldn't. It would be ****, it would never be good enough no matter how good it is. Which is a serious issue with today's Star Wars fans in general.

Not that they haven't made some genuinely stupid missteps, such as the erroneously handled information regarding various ships and such. But still.

What always bothered me is how many fans asked for "Adaptation" of X or Y. Like the guys that wanted Thrawn Trilogy films. Films that would be panned both as films and unfaithful, because they're books- chalk full of information with a fairly slow build if we're totally honest. Movie-izing something like KOTOR? Not super hard. But the criticisms leveled at TFA?

VERY valid to level at KOTOR. Oh, we're attack aboard an hammerheaded ship and we have to use an escape pod to go find _____ and then get a freighter type ship that's the fastest in the _____ and then work towards an entire "blow up the big bad superweapon thing" and then duel aboard it? Oh man.

Like if you condensed KOTOR into all the action, plot forwad bits.

You'd really just have ANH.

If the fans weren't outraged at TOR MMO I don't think it's possible to upset them.

Were you on the internet back then? The nerd rage was real (and tbh not unjustified, ToR was just a bunch of bad descision start to finish). That opens up a good angle for Disney to chime in, though - retcon ToR nonsense and fans wouldn't be categoricaly opposed.

Oh trust me they were and still are upset. TOR was utterly tone deaf to what KOTOR II was trying to set up.

Well then, fans were upset with TOR but the game is still running and making profit - sounds like a green light to throw everything away and start anew, taking only some fitting bits and pieces like they did with The Clone Wars and Rebels.

I may be in the minority here, but I thought that TOR was a superb game. I was a fairly serious WoW player, and I was blown away by the innovations that TOR brought in, especially the storylines for each class.

Oh sure, as far as WoW-style MMOs go it's not bad, but the direction it took the KoToR story was plain dissapointing. Instead of wrapping the story up it just made an unstatisfying 200-ish year jump that invalidated a lot of the characters actions before. Furthermore going from a single player RPG to a subscription based MMO was a step not a lot of fans apreciated.

I suppose it's about expectations. You wanted a WoW with a solid story and you got it, but it was hyped up to be KotOR 3, and compared to single player RPGs it just doesn't cut it. I wasn't impressed with the Smuggler's story, maybe other classes had fantastic writing... but even then there are problems no ammount of great writing will fix, because they are results of the game being a MMO - lack of consequences, weak exploration, grind, and immersion-breakers. On top of that the presentations just straight up sucks, voices and music are good but the game looks worse than KotOR, and the cutscenes are atrociously scripted and animated.

Playing serious MMOs wrecked single player RPGs for me. I always found them to be the very poor cousin of pen & paper, but MMOs added human interaction and the capacity to actually play a character. Also mass raiding and instances give a real co-op experience that a single player game can’t manage.

If you didn’t find the story that’s cool. These things are all taste. I loved it right through to the Eternal Emperor, especially the Bounty Hunter story.

Oh I'm hardly saying I don't like SWTOR. Trying to convince my dad and little brother that we should all play it together, so we have something besides Destiny 2 to do together. Repetition gets old hella fast, you know?

But yeah.

I gotta say, I really did like the Trooper story (I got to about level 30 in it before I took a break due to financial/time reasons) but the Smuggler's dialogue slayed me.

KOTOR fans can get over themselves about the game not being canon just like I had to get over the original clone wars series, the Republic Commando books, Rogue Squadron books, Thrawn Trilogy and Duology, Shadows of the Empire, and etc..

Its not like we had to go through the rise of badass Grievous to only eight years later his steady decline due to shoddy writing on the new Clone Wars  :(

EDIT: This is coming from a KOTOR fan, I love the universe that bioware created with the KOTOR games, they're absolutely brilliant additions to the canon.

If they cover the Old Republic era I hope its of the same quality of those two games.

Sorry for the double post but I need to know if i'm crazy or not.

Does anyone know if Thrawn: Alliances was delayed from this upcoming spring to the summer?

I swear I remember reading that before.

The reason I ask is that I wonder what the book may contain that deals with season 4 of Rebels and if thats the cause of the delay.

And here we all go:

Kanan is so totally buying it to rescue Hera. This makes me both happy and sad.

I hope so, that would be an honorable death.

What of Ezra?

Ezra is Snoke?

:P

I don’t know. Something tells me that the Palp scene is one huge bait and switch, but he could fall, then fail to replace Vader. That’s what I’d do, but that’s way too dark for a kids cartoon.

Added actual content

Pause at 2:05. The mural that lights up is the Father, Son, and Daughter from the Mortis arc in Clone Wars. Not sure if it'll mean anything, but it's an interesting detail. Also, KANAN CUTS HIS HAIR?! Now I can finally do this costume without waiting an obnoxiously long time for mine to grow out. Or buy a wig.

Holy crap.

What a huge trailer.

I had to look it up because I wasn't aware they were making a sequel to Thrawn. The release date I see listed is in July.

That is hondo fighting with the rebels on that bridge. And it might be ketsu with the red helmet, not 100% sure. But I think it is her:

I would be supprised not to see Ketsu. I’m pretty sure we’ll see Ahsoka too.

So, after the final season wraps, who is excited for Star Wars: Porgs?
