STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

That's exactly my problem though. That's only the case, IN THE OLD CANON. The new canon hasn't really defined how mediocre or advanced the X-Wing actually is in comparison to other starfighters. So my concern is that they're going to retcon it so that the X-Wing and the TIE Defender are on the same level.

I've said it before, X-wings are like the katanas of starfighters, except worse due to the lack of real-life equivalent to test with. You ask any Nerd-lite what their favorite starfighter is and it's going to be the X-wing, because: "It can blow up a hundred TIE Defenders in one day and take on a Star Destroyer single-handed!"

" SARCASM I have personally destroyed three Star Destroyers using my plucky X-wing and destroyed so many Imperial fighters that the fuselage is solid red with kill markings. MODE " <_<

That’s it. I’m sick of all this “JumpMaster 5000” poodoo that’s going on in Star Wars right now. X-Wings deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I’m talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine X-Wing in Fresia for 2,400,000 credits (that’s about $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 according to Curtis Saxton) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even shoot womprats of 2 meters with my X-Wing.
Incom engineers spend years working on a single X-Wing and fold the S-foils up to a million times to produce the finest wings known to mankind.
X-Wings are thrice as fast as Z-95 Headhunters and thrice as shielded for that matter too. Anything a Z-95 can fly through, an X-Wing can fly through better. I’m pretty sure an X-Wing could easily bisect a Jedi knight wearing full robes with a simple A-Wing Slash.
Ever wonder why the Yuuzhan Vong never bothered conquering Fresia? That’s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Rogue Squadron and their X-Wings of destruction. Even in Galactic Civil War II, Imperial pilots targeted the pilots with the X-Wings first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? X-Wings are simply the best fighter that the galaxy has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the XWM system. Here is the stat block I propose for X-Wings:
(One-Handed Exotic Fighter) 5 ATK 4 Evade 5 Shield 5 to Hull and Focus Counts as Crits
(Two-Handed Exotic Fighter) 10 ATK 8 Evade 7 Shield 7 to Hull and Focus Counts as Crits
Now that seems a lot more representative of the flying power of X-Wings in real life, don’t you think?
tl;dr = X-Wings need to do more damage in XWM, see my new stat block.

Is it wrong that at 43 years old seeing X-Wings lock their S-Foils in attack position still brings a tear to my eye?

No, it's not wrong; and you were there to see them in their original glory.

What's wrong is The Mouse is trying to milk those tears out of the rest of us by using the narrative equivalent of a bicycle pump on the X-wing.

It's not only not wrong, it's right.

I do hope we get a blue squadron Scariff/Rebels X-Wing release soon. Hopefully with something (title?) that lets X-Wings not named Biggs compete (maybe a veteran title that gives them a free barrel roll and maybe a discount tech slot)?

Surely you're aware that there are a bunch of people here who saw Star Wars in the theater when it came out...?

Alas, the earliest major sci-fi movie I remember seeing is Star Trek VI at the tender age of 8. Praxis exploding nearly threw me out of my seat.

Are you saying a 3yo would remember that?

There are people older than me on the forum, but no, I did not see Star Wars at the cinema when it was first released. Return of the Jedi was the first movie I saw at the cinema.

You know the funny part? I've never loved the X-Wing.

My Rebel ship of choice has always been what's on my avatar.

Adult me loves the A-Wing. Seven(ish) year old child me is still running around the house with his battle damaged X-Wing chasing my little brother’s Darth Vader’s TIE fighter making pew-pew noises.

Did your little brother press the button on the back of Vader's TIE to make the LED guns light up? Good times. And the AT-AT with the handle inside it so you could move the head and fire the guns. And the Falcon that was battery operated for... reasons. I don't actually remember what the batteries did in the Falcon!

I can’t remember the guns but when I invariably shot him down there was a button that popped the wings off.

I don't hate X Wings but I've never inherently pursued them either. Its weird because I do know I love them in the context of Sci Fi ships but I've never bought a model or toy of one or felt inclined to. Meanwhile Tie Fighters are my jam. They're so unique and under rated.

It could be that Rebels has done a lot to make the Empire appear to be the underdogs since we know the good guys always have to win. When Tie Fighters survive it's super cool and I want to know about the pilot but when an X-Wing survives it's like Meh okay. This is not true of the original movies, it's maybe just all the other stuff that's created this sense of military imbalance.

I'd be more enthused if the rebels had been losing much of the time and the X-Wings introduction to the fleet is like the logistical variation of the Rohirrim at Helms Deep.

Yeah, me too :D I was there and I remember. It's true, all of it. There was a Star War trilogy that had magic, wrapped you up in its adventures, and made you believe that you too could be a Jedi.

Of course those were the days before we realized that they were galactic terrorists determined to over throw the government.

Have to chime in here about my mom. When I was little she was an absolute saint when it came to me and Star Wars. Stood in a line that wrapped around the theater to take me to see the original in the summer of '77 (I was 8). Then for opening night of Empire she took me to the 10:30pm showing at a theater that was downtown in the closest city to us...on a school night, no less. For Jedi, she totally did the unthinkable and let me skip school, drove me to the theater it was opening at on her way to work so I could stand in line for tickets to go on sale at noon, then picked me up after. And of course, went to see it with me that night. And always when there was a re-release with a trailer for the next film she would take me and stay with me all the way through the credits to see the trailer for the next movie (the trailer was always shown after the credits back then). I have a great Star Wars Mom. :o) Now she watches the movies on dvd/blu-ray with my daughter too.

Bumping this because it had fallen to the 4th page, and we're getting a new episode in just a week. Hyped!

I'm 40, and I saw all three of the originals in the theater. Of course, that's because they re-released Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back to the theaters in 1983 prior to Return of the Jedi's theatrical release... so I saw them all in the theater when I was six. Technically not when they first were in the theater, but, eh, close enough ;)

Even though I was born between ANH and ESB, pretty sure I didn't see any of the Star Wars movies in the theaters until the special editions came to theaters in the 90s.

I remember going to see Return of the Jedi at the cinema, original release. I remember getting my first two Kenner figures as well (original Luke and Darth). I don't remember where/when I first saw Star Wars, but I remember seeing it on TV and it was missing Luke's training scene, which was annoying,

All this was before the dark times, before Lucas' incessant tinkering.

My father saw every star wars movie opening day, except for revenge of the sith. Yes, that includes the original Star Wars on opening day.
