STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Wtf.

Just sat down to watch it and Disney XD (UK) is rerunning the Chopper AP5 episode from couple weeks back.

There have been so many random breaks this season.

Yeah, very frustrated as I can't find an air date for 0 Hour in the UK. Disney XD needs to get it's act together pronto.

My planner can't find it either. Nothing scheduled at the moment.

Its on Toonova.net

Usually I avoid that sort of site like the plague, but I'm so peeved right now that I may well check it out.

Good episode. A few REALLY cool scense... but overal it was a bit expected..

some interesting parts -

A) Bendu sees Thrawn's end - embraced by many arms? I guess a Borgullet or an Octopus kills Thrawn eventually.

B) Dodonna's fleet happened to have Dornean Gunships anyhow, so no backstory on them, they just exist

C) Sato is a BEAST!

D) The Rebels actually outsmarted Thrawn slightly, in that he didn't know the full size of the fleet at all.

E) Happy to see multiple Interdictors!

The "many arms" could also mean the many arms of the rebellion. .Bendu also could've been using a general "your" like the Imperials. "You cannot see your (the Empire ) defeat, by the many branches of the alliance. "

I'm also just going to assume that Kallus is in Rogue One, the dude with side burns in the command meeting.

Spoilers:

What happened to Thrawn in the end? I got to the bendu scene where he tells Thrawn's or the Empire's future but no farther. Is that it of what they show?

I know many are annoyed, but having played a match of Armada yesterday where my interdictor (which had wiped the table in a previous battle) was ripped to shreds by a swarm of CR-90s, im a little more tolerant of Interdictors being destroyed.

All in all four rebel ships and a few fighters escaped so it can be assumed that everything else got destroyed. An actual victory for the Empire for once.

Thrawn is shocked, shooting Bendu, but when they switch to Bendu it was like he was never there and everyone is confused and Bendu laughs

So Force beings appear to be basically immortal, I guess

Huh thats kinda creepy. Is that the end of Thrawn's scenes in the finale?

It is, but I like it, since Bendu is kinda in a bad mood this episode. Also: it is, will be interested what consequences there will be for Pryce.

But the last shot is of the Rebel Survivors and they are bummed and sad

It's not really Pryce or Thrawns fault, ALL blame can be laid squarely at Konstantines feet. Had he maintained position as ordered, Phoenix Home would have been crushed by the Destroyers. Instead, they lost the Interdictor, allowing the Mandalorian reinforcements to destroy the second Interdictor leading to the escape.

Also, if Tarkin hadn't insisted on prisoners, the rebellion would have been quelled.

Moral of the story: If Thrawn thinks it's a good idea, it's a good idea; if he thinks it's a bad idea, it's probably a bad idea.

Yes, Constantine was the biggest problem, but he finally payed up.

However someone has to take responsibilltiy and since Pryce was in Charge of the Fleet at the Moment (and obviously overwhelmed by a few Mandos) there will be consequences by her. Like Luke in Heir of Jedi stated "The Empire is a regieme of blaming"

I also thought that if Tarkin didn't want prisoners, Thrawn probably would've just bombarded them to death.

Great Star Wars Armada episode.

A fantastic episode, even if my prediction of Hondo making an appearance didn't pan out.

I will say this, why is rebels as a show so hesitant to name background characters? It wouldve been cool to hear names of some of the pilots that got blown up.

Rebels does not give you a good impression of people living in the rebellion outside of Ghost crew. I like the focused lens but when you do that you have to constantly name drop squadron groups and aces.

For instance if we had gotten to know just a little bit about a few of the pilots that were killed, over the course of a season, then their deaths would have meant so much more.

So I know this is a stupid thing to get hung up on, but am I the only one who is annoyed by the ship continuity?

In this episode we see the Liberator, a ship with 'Distinguishable blue markings (paraphrase)' leading us to assume that its hull pattern is unique, yet we see three ships with this same pattern not only in the battle, but twice it was destroyed. In the end it escapes and we do see it in Rogue One, so I guess that's more of a minor gripe.

Then we have the McQuarrie corvette (The unnamed white, blue, and red CR-90 with a white arrow on the bridge section) It gets destroyed as the rebels are escaping into hyperspace, yet we see it in the background of Rogue One. (This isn't the first time it's disappeared from the fleet either).

I know that re-using assets is a typical animation technique, but they clearly have another non-unique CR-90 model in their library, so why not use that? Would it really be that hard to switch out one of the two unique ships for one of those, or even a different ship all together?

Sorry about the rant...

Medicore-to-decent ending of an underwhelming season.

What the writers of Rebels do to capital ships and space combat is a crime against humanity.

Will elaborate tomorrow when I get to my PC.

So, now that season 3 is in the books, what does everyone think we'll see in season 4? My thoughts:

1: X-Wings will make an appearance, with Wedge transitioning from his A-Wing to an X-Wing. We also might see some of the pilots from episode 4 make an appearance as well.

2: There will be a major story arc involving the Mandalorian Civil War, including the rescue of Sabine's father.

3: Rebuilding of the Rebel fleet to an even larger size than it was in this season.

4: I don't think we'll see the Battle of Scarif till season 5. Season 4 will be spent recovering from the defeat in the season 3 finale.

5: Thrawn will be back. :)

Given how we have yet to see any Incom projects in Rebels, but we know by the time of R1 and later on into the OT the rebellion is extensively using them, I expect some event or plotline will occur in Rebels similar to previous Legends to acquire X-Wings, and maybe U-Wings which we see from the Yavin cell. We also clearly need time to build back up to Scariff numbers.

Also, bet we'll be seeing more than one Defender next time. Maybe even somebody else will take over the Defender initiative from Thrawn which could result in more wacky TIEs.

I bet we will see the Rebellion truly comming together and Saw Garrerra being kicked out.

So I hope we'll see more Saw

Just on a Sidenote, going back to the Lightsaber disscussion:

I've just finished the canon novel "Heir of the Jedi", a great book 9/10, would read again (but beware: the feels are strong with this one)

However Luke finds a Lightsaber and takes it appart to studi it's workings (so he could one day build his own Lightsaber)
Every Lightsaber has a Energycell (which was apparently uninteresting) Furthermore it had multiple Crystals, one of whichwas called the Focussingcrystal (giving the Blade the colour) and multiple smaller ones (I think it was 3) which could be missplaced easily and needed precision force use to get in the right position.
Since the Kybercrystal turns the Energy from the Blade into a Plasmabeam that loops back into the emitter, the missplacement of the crystals had unforseeable consequences, rendering the Lightsaber basically useless.
Furthermore there was a knob to regualte the Intensity of the Blade, so the Practice mode of the Lightsaber seems to not be as far off as some have speculated

The novel also gave a nice insight into how the Dark Side feels.
For one it is cold, like a rage, but the Force seems to support you and give you a feeling of power and invincibility, whilest it also seems to actually increase the abillities quite a bit. (while the light side kinda is just there, but does nothing to you, except that you feel warm and calm when you connect to it)

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I totally forgott one important feature: Lightsabers (At least Anakins Lightsaber) had the option to lock in the activation button, so the Blade would stay activated even if dropped.

So I guess Lightsaber Activation buttons are momentary Buttons, which would have to be held down, except if you lock it in? Seems complicated, but what do I know, maybe it is for something else entirely

HOLD THE PHONE.

Wasn't Ezra's home destroyed by Tarkin?

So how is Kallus transmitting from it now?

That's not Ezra's home. It looks too pristine. Ezra's tower is a bit more run down and also out in the middle of no where.

the house in the city that his parents had owned (and had a secret communications station underneath) was destroyed.

the Tower Tarkin had destroyed was the planet's main offworld telecommunications center, the place that tied it into the Imperial galactic communications.

the Tower thing he'd been living in prior to meeting the Ghost crew should still be around, since it was a different tower.
