I actually think that 000 is a nod to HK-47.
After all his personallity Matrix comes from the Old Republic, is made for Protocoll Droids and turns them into Torture/Assassination Droids.
But yeah, 000 and BT are very cool, sadly I only have the first few Vader comics, need to get the rest+the Aphra one (allready in love with her, too)

I note we have another occurrence of history acording to WEG slipping back into the canon in the form of the Ghorman Massacre (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook). I suspect they'll not expand on the details, but it would be cool if they did and kept Tarkin's involvement.

With the Defender and the Interceptor now a thing in pre-Yavin times, it begs the question as to why Black Squadron wasn't outfitted with them. They were directly under the control of Vader so you would think they could at least grab some squints or prototype trips. Of course it is likely that Yavin moon would be forming a ring around its gas giant if there were 8 Defenders in the fight.
Maybe the Rebels succeed in destroying the factory and that sets back production by a few years.
Of course, that doesn't explain why they don't have Interceptors. But maybe a better question is, why didn't they all have Advanceds?

Can you point to any canon source with information about the TIEs involved in the Battle of Yavin? Everything I can find is Legends. In other words, nothing to indicate anything special about the TIE pilots on the Death Star. Watching the movie, I always got the impression Vader just grabbed the first pilots he could scramble. I'm going with that explanation until something more defined comes along.
As for the models of TIEs; the retcon is far from complete. I understand the TIE production timeline is important to some fans. Story group might eventually fill the gaps, but in the meantime I'm content to tell myself the Death Star didn't have better fighters because the Empire didn't believe it would need them.

It takes time to train on new models. If Black squadron was a unit that Vader had put together over some time, they may have felt it was better to stick with the fighters they were best skilled at flying. Constantly swapping in newer fighters might have set them back with the learning curve.
In the game, basic Tie fighters are nothing special. In ANH, Black squadron took heavy losses but they wiped out 3 times their number of enemy fighters.

Advanced is a Vader special. Sure the prototype was unveiled to the public on lothal, but we only ever see the inquisitors use them after that. And Vader's personal one is unique to him so far, its possible that it might be one of three, and vader owns all three or something.
Defender is thrawns own design, he built it to outclass every pre-existing star fighter, including the experimental ones. And it's performed beautifully so far.
Not saying they won't ever use TIE Advance's, there's just not a reason to right now when you have a better star fighter available.

I seem to remember something about the Advanced series being a testbed for TIE variant technologies. The Advanced X-1 is likely one of only a few prototypes.
You know how car companies sometimes roll out concept cars, and those cars are amazing and cool, but they never put the original concept into production for cost or safety reasons and just integrate features into existing lines of cars?
It's like that.
They made the X-1 as a concept fighter, and after testing Vader just didn't give it back cause'; "Vader an independent cyborg he do what he want."
Could see that. Advanced x1 tests adding shields and hyperdrive to standard TIE, using mix of /LN and bomber parts for the chassis.
The results go on to inform the v1 (modifying the power system to fit more power into a small frame), and the defender (adopting a larger frame and enlarged power supply)
Presumably the v1 is the ancestor of the TIE/fo, once the tech advanced enough to not require the design compromises of the v1.
Don't forget, the TIE Defender is at this stage only a Prototype and it is referenced by Thrawn as "the Prototype" indicating that it is the only one so far.
Maybe the Rebels succeed to destroy the Factory, who knows, but I believe they will prove to be too costy, with the logic "We can get 10 regular TIEs and one Advanced for the price of one Defender", which sounds like a very Empire thing to me.
Furthermore, it is also possible that Trawn leaves the current events and ventures into Unknown Space (Threats from Unknown Space are canon, pray that they aren't the Vong) and takes what little Defenders there will be with him. (Because there will never be many Defenders)

There is none, but considering only a handful of TIEs were able to effectively compete with much superior odds (albeit with a Sith Lord flying with them), they certainly weren't scrubs. Red Squadron had veteran pilots like Wedge Antilles, Hobbie, and Garven Dreis. Given that the Death Star had the bulk of the Empire's senior staff on it at the time, you'd think it would have its share of elite pilots acting as hangers ons or at least getting a posh assignment. In any case, Vader had thousands of pilots to choose from. He might have sent out scrubs for the first wave, but for his personal wingmen? I think not.
That being said the Wook is saying that there were 42 TIEs flying at Yavin and sourcing it to ANH itself. Watching the scene twice showed 8 TIE Fighters and 1 Advanced with no mention of numbering for Imperial fighters.

A farm boy with no fighter combat experience managed to jump from the cockpit of a T-16 to the cockpit of a T-65. Given that he only had a day's training at most in using the Force, we can't just use it as a catchall for familiarity of cockpit function and flight capabilities. The TIE Interceptor was seeing deployment at least 2 years before Yavin. If Luke can make the transition in less than a day, an academy trained pilot can certainly do the same with two fighters in the same family.
To put it in a real life perspective, pilots in WWII were able to transition from the P-40 to the P-51 without months or years of training on the new airframe.

That mentality might exist for nobodies, but the Empire is well known for giving their important folks extravagant hardware. Stuff like life support suits, custom TIEs, Executors, and a Death Star here or there. All those would have bought enough TIE Fighters to wipe out the Rebellion just by using kamikaze attacks. At the very least and Interceptor, which was in common use 2 years prior, wouldn't be that hard for a veteran pilot to get ahold of even if the Defenders were sabotaged by the Rebellion or constrained solely to Thrawn for some odd reason. The special treatment extended beyond hardware into manpower as well. Both Vader and the Emperor got access to cream of the crop bodyguards in red robes. How much of a stretch would it be for Vader to get his own retinue of pilots for when he decided to jump into a dogfight?
I say all this realizing that we're dealing with a case of canon shifting after the fact causing slight discrepancies in earlier releases, but Disney is the one who greenlighted these advanced fighters appearing so early in the timeline. Sure, Rebels is the only iron in the fire right now and Disney wants to do all it can to make some extra cash, but it nonetheless brings up case of a German VIP pilot in late WWII being escorted by Spanish Civil War era Bf 109s instead of the FW 190s or Me 262s that somebody of his stature should have access to.
