STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

I second that.
I think the Dark Saber will stay in Mandalorian hands. At least in Rebels.
Furthermore I believe that the duel between Sabine and Saxon will commend during the climax of that story, as I hope that it will be spanned over a few Episodes, not necessarily in one Arc.
So I think this Episode will mostly focus on Sabines training and maybe the meeting with her Mother?

Even though I made the slightly satirical fanboy post that Boba should claim it (as a nod to his position in Legends) I think he won't be included into Rebels at all, at least not in this season, which is sad.
Also I believe the canon does not state him as Mandalorian, as Satine said that Jango is not Mandalorian but merely a thief.
My interpretation is that she meant that he is a traitor to the Mandalorian way of peace, but I know that this is sadly unlikely.

About the duel with Saxon, I think he will steal it from her, later they will duel and she will win due to her skill and training.

Thrawns plan I do not know, but I'm sure Maul is out of the picture...

My thoughts so far :)

So let´s return from the ´Clone-Wars-Discussion-Thread´ back to the ´Rebels-Discussion-Thread´ ;)

(Though I appreciate the character of General Grievous)

Next episode will be about the Dark Saber and Mandalorians.

What do we expect? Sabine losing it to Saxon? Boba Fett running by and claiming it? Sabine becoming Mandalore?

Thrawn stealing the Dark Saber through a cunning plan and binding all Mandalorians to him?

I really am curious where they're going with this. Regardless, I'm always looking forward to seeing more Mandalorian culture.

Thank you for that. I needed someone to reinvigorate my love of Grievous. Im just salty that the Clone Wars never truly confirmed his amazing EU backstory from Labyrinth of Evil. In fact any Grievous James Luceno was able to write was incredible.

The only Grievous episode I cannot justify in my mind is the Gungan one. I can imagine Griwvous being overwhelmed especially considerimg those ball weapons they have. However we never, NEVER needed that visualized.

Thrawn stealing the Dark Saber through a cunning plan and binding all Mandalorians to him?

That would be perfect. After all, they are more than likely not going to bring in the Noghri, so he needs some type of powerful muscle working for him.

That would be hilarious if Thrawn got the darksaber and the Mandolorians are so indoctrinated in the legend they have to follow. Halfway through the battle they flip from the rebels to the Empire hahaha

I'm really worried that the finale with Thrawn won't live up to what they've been hyping up. Its not that it would be hard to do but will the writers take it that far?

My hope is the rebels are routed from chopper base, rally the mandalorians to make a major stand against the Empire, which Thrawn decidedly puts down and quashes their revolt.

I want the Rebellion to gather a bunch of it's cells together for an attack on the TIE Defender factory on Lothal. This is of course a trap, and though Thrawn decimates the Rebel fleet, thanks to the assistance of the Mandalorians, they succeed in destroying the factory and our important characters manage to escape and they spend the next season on the run from bounty hunters as they try and recover their footing.

Mandolorian way of peace.

We're a peaceful people. No, really. The jetpacks and blasters everyone and their dog has are just a way of honoring our bloodthirsty-galaxy-crusading ancestors. Really.

Civil war? Didn't happen.

Jango Fett? Never heard of him.

Cracked planet? Was like that when we got there.

I mean, maybe some people did a tiny bit of fighting back in the day, but we're a totes peaceful people now. The dead queen said so and everything. :P

(Edit. You have to be careful in this galaxy. If you become too popular they'll make an entire race of you, and if that race becomes too popular they'll alter the canon to make them good people and you'll get kicked out of the race that was based on you in the first place. )

Yeah I call bull on that. What a strange turn of events isnt it.

FFS, don't you have a training mode on your lightsaber, Kanan?

FFS, don't you have a training mode on your lightsaber, Kanan?

Maybe, but seeing how it was Sabine touching the Darksaber that caused that wound, it doesn't matter.

Fighting yourself? Someone wrote this episode after watching Creed.

Like...flashlight mode?

There's a training mode on lightsabers?

I was just thinking about some thing ....

  • that boy is our last hope
  • no there is another

I (and guess every one else) assumed Yoda was talking about Liea, but we now know the Yoda and Ezra had contact so that changes my whole take on that part of the movie

No No No No. The "another" is NOT Ezra. Give me a break.

There's a training mode on lightsabers?

No, lightsabers don't have a Stun setting.

And training sabers (if those are even canon anymore) aren't exactly growing on trees.

There's a training mode on lightsabers?

"Some lightsabers also featured a non-lethal low-power setting used for training."

Yep.

And there are also dedicated training sabers. You didn't think all those younglings trained with the real deal did you? Even if they didn't kill anyone accidentally, think of the scratches in the floor, and all of the instructors going darkside from the strain. So yeah, training mode turns it into a long taser-type dealio*, so no maiming of the students occurs.

*(That's deal-io. As in "that's the deal" + io. Get your head out of the gutter.)**

**(I blame Saints Row.)

And now for something completely different, I read the wiki and found out why the Mandolorian paintings in their city in TCW were Picasso-style. It seems they were trying to emphasize the New Mandolorians non-violent themes by portraying their wars in a Picassoian theme, specifically in the same way that he painted for the Spanish Civil War.

Simply put the Picasso paintings are goofy, akward, and crude on purpose because war itself tends to be goofy, akward, and crude. Plans go wrong, people that weren't supposed to die do, people that shouldn't be allowed to live end up living happily ever after and things get messy, messy, messy. Lucas liked that straightforward "To show a depraved subject make a depraved picture." idea, so they parroted/echoed it when they made the Mandos pacifists.

They're fine. They have the Force.

Sabine doesn't. Which is why she cuts herself like a doofus.

Guys, Ezra and Kanan had training mode once. Don't have the time now to look up what episode it was. I remember them making a different sound and everything. Also, looking foreward to some actual Sabine Character development.

I really, really hate that trope. ^_^

Why would anyone in his right mind train with lethal weapons and try as best as he can to kill his friend? ^-^

Though there is still the super small chance that they will introduce training sabers with stun damage to canon. I doubt it though, because that trope sits to deep in hollywood, Filoni and Hidalgo might not even realize how stupid this is.

They are btw based on different crystals, which would mean that dark saber switching color, so it is really unlikely that the have that bright idea to build one.

Oh thank god someone remembered.

This discussion was driving me mental.

Uh.

I've been rewatching the episodes very, very recently while I've been painting Malifaux minis.

There is no training mode sabers anywhere in season 1 - there's a scene where Ezra's trying to deflect milk crates; there's a scene where Ezra's deflecting stunbolts from half the crew (and has a vision of that Treyviss guy), and that's it for training with sabers in Season 1. Season 2 doesn't have any that I remember either; it's got too much 'real life battle against bloodthirsty Inquisitors' to spend time on a training montage.

I think you might be misremembering something Orrin, unless it was in a comic book or novel.

I can't rewatch it now, but isn't their a scene in ep 1 of season 3 where they are training? Could it be in that?

It's in the "mystery of chopper base" episode (or the one right after. Its the giant killer spiders episode.) nearing the end of season 2. Kanan and Ezra are training to go to Malachor, and both blades are a transparent blue color while also making a much different sound.

-edit-

I found a clip of the scene. Kanan's Saber even strikes the wall and it doesn't leave any kind of mark.
