STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

I never got onboard the "Sabine is a Mary Sue" train but jeez, when Ezra exclaimed "they're in trouble" when she charged alone at like 5-6 stormtroopers, it was a bit too much.

You know, I gotta agree. I've always been annoyed at the "Sabine is a Mary Sue" sentiment, but I could actually see it in this episode.

In this same episode, two Jedi go up against a single Destroyer droid and like 4 **** droids and it's treated like they can't handle it, but Sabine goes up against 6 specialist stormtroopers and they're just like "She's got that, we don't need to do anything else."

She's also 19 years old (17 is Season 1 EDIT: 16 when joined Rebels) former top Imperial Academy student former bounty hunter, doesn't need the Force to get Force Speed, Force Jump and straight up Force Teleportation and soon will become the leader of Mandalore.

She needs to get beaten up by Boba Fett.

They need to make Boba Fett cool again.

Or...for the first time.

I never got onboard the "Sabine is a Mary Sue" train but jeez, when Ezra exclaimed "they're in trouble" when she charged alone at like 5-6 stormtroopers, it was a bit too much. At this point the Rebels crew are like Dungeons and Dragons charaters - they're level 20 and they know low-level mooks can't possibly hurt them. I mean, I know it's a kid's show at the core, but trying to incorporate dark and broody Saw Gerrera and cheerfully soloing 6 troopers in the same episode is a bit too much. I know they always fight against overwhelming odds, but Rebels mostly tries to show that the crew respect their enemies and now Sabine just charges at them like "gimme a sec, gonna drop 6 mooks all by myself, be right back."

Why go so far? The stormtroopers are a single group of minions and Sabine is a standard FFG SW RPG character. 6 Stormtroopers are something that you kill in a single action with your automatic rifle (see R1), she was not doiung anything special. Those were still stormtroopers not mandalorian super commandos or clone troopers. Accept the fact that stormtroopers are not some elite force, but mostly lousy soldiers with minimal training, often pressed into service and always pressed into lousy equipment. And we see in rebels as well the reason for this: The empire is spread incredible thin, while trying to control everything with some form of military presence. The republic never even tried this during the war and had just millions of soldiers for millions of worlds. The empire at the other hand tries to recruit billions of soldiers to have at least a small presence everywhere. I am still hoping to see a BDZ on Lothal as this would establish as well that the empire rather destroys worlds and relies on the fleet instead of relying on their infantry.

She needs to get beaten up by Boba Fett.

They need to make Boba Fett cool again.

Or...for the first time.

Boba was super bad ass in the clone wars. And we are talking here about kid boba and he is already commanding his group of bounty hunters and pulls his weight just fine with a blaster.

Look i'm just saying she probably becomes the leader of Mandalore and Mandalore is NOT on the Rebel Council in Rogue One.

Sure all of the rebels were not at Yavin 4 and i'm sure Akbar and many many other cells are dispersed across the galaxy but you get a very clear sense that the main representatives of the Rebel Leadership were all called to the council meeting.

Mandalore is an extraordinarily important planet in the new canon lore and if they were apart of the Rebel Alliance by Rogue One a Mandolorian would be represented there. Its possible they are in that crowd watching the main council leaders, and if the writers really want to they could explain it that way, but personally I think what is more likely is that Mandalore is either wiped out by the Empire or simply doesn't join the Rebels.

Super important thing I picked up, Bail Organa is voiced by the same actor as Samuri Jack, phil lamarr.

Hermes Conrad! nice find

Having the characters almost admit it makes it worse....

Sabine is Rey's mom. She is ObiWan's daughter. You heard it here first.

No, we've heard it everywhere since TFA premiere.

It is so stupid and so against Obi-wan's character that I can totally believe that Jar Jar Abrams wrote it.

Sabine is Rey's mom. She is ObiWan's daughter. You heard it here first.

Sabine was born right smack dab in the middle of the Clone Wars. I think Obi-wan was a tad busy. Also a small issue of Daisy Ridley's coloration being wrong.

I enjoyed the episodes. Now I have a hankering for seeing Rae Sloane in the show.

That's exactly when he was on Mandalore.

Makes her the right age to be a mom too.

It is still hard to imagine that Satin had a child in secret. It would as well make her mon in the show her adoptive mom as satine died a short time after. Now it is not unlikely that Satin and Obi-Wan were intimate with each other while Obi-Wan was assigned to Mandalore and it is reasonable to assume that he would hide this from the other Jedis, but a kid is rather far fetched … still, the Lady Sabine Kryze would not surprise me. And not telling your adopted child of their heritage as a certain rhyme in star wars. °_^

Read Catalyst; it gives a good explanation of Geonosian culture. The Geonosian survivor in this Rebels episode is definitely just a worker. I doubt he/she/it was educated enough to write the things the Rebels needed to know.

If that's what Catalyst says than it's just as poorly written as this episode.

The idea of a class that can't read or write, but still has knowledge of advanced robotics is ridiculous.

This drone was not an assembly line worker, putting a single part into it's place over and over. He was maintaining a force of droids and an advanced shield generator in their entirety on his own.

I never said the Geonosian workers were totally ignorant. Poggle the Lesser ascended from worker to Archduke. The point is there is a vast difference between being a competent technician and being able to communicate a detailed explanation of "circle in a circle" to alien invaders threatening your species with extinction. We're also assuming this particular character did anything other than just see the Death Star take shape in the sky.

There are tons of different castes found in nature, (bees, ants, termites, wasps, snapping shrimp, mole rats, etc.) and some species can transition mid-way through their lives. The Geonosians are a space-faring race with a once-decent science program. I could be persuaded to believe that a caste of tech-savants was engineered to help more administrative drones with technical tasks in a space-faring culture.

Depending on the quality of the writing of course.

There was once a drone from Nantucket.

He became a tech-savant because **** it.

The ruling caste died,

When the Empire lied

So he carried his egg in a bucket.

That's the trick. Any concept can be sold if written right.

If someone from an alien culture asked you to explain what happened after a nuclear blast how the heck would you communicate with them? Just because it can't speak basic doesn't mean we should assume less of it.

I'm surprised at how annoyed I am that the queen from the Vader comic is somehow the queen from the egg which makes no sense? First off to me it breaks a rule of improv, never say no. Meaning don't seal off any path of future opportunity. That was not a hole that had to be filled, why not leave it a big mystery in case some writer down the way wants to do a story where the Geonosians are revived.

Makes her the right age to be a mom too.

So, Caucasion + Caucasion = Asian?

Also, I didn't ask for cool Mandolorians, I asked for cool Fett. It should be obvious at that point that Fett is no Mandolorian. He just wears the outfit.

Sure, why not? Human genes are diverse, both parents might have fitting phenotypes in their genes.

Not that anyone in the star wars galaxy would be caucasian, african or asian or that star wars ever cared about science.

Who says Sabine is Asian anyway?

Who says Sabine is Asian anyway?

I'm not sure how much clearer it can be.

Who says Sabine is Asian anyway?

In a very technical sense, she isn't. But her design pretty clearly takes from an Asian phenotype.

But in the sense of Star Wars she's merely your average human, because when it comes down to it Humans are simply too far spread and have been for so long that determining such roots is... Kind of impossible.

So Sabine is technically just human, but has Asian traits to us.
