STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Han is alive, it is all a ruse to get to Snoke. See many of the knights of ren theories. If Maul can survive this than for sure Han can too, especially if everything has been planned together with Kylo. SCNR, someone mentioned crazy fan theories and I can't hold them in. ;-)

I'd dig it just to see Harrison Ford with robot legs. He and Ray Park could get in a sweet dance off in the next installment of Star Wars Kinect too.

That can't be the same ship.

Or the Rogue One CGI crew is just not paying attention, or caring about such details.

So, to all those lucky people who've got to watch a Hammerhead go head-to-head with an ISD - can you confirm or deny the differences with the "Rebels" Hammerheads ???

(I'd hoped to see it today, but ended up spending 20 times as much on car repairs! :( ...maybe tomorrow or Friday)

Can't find any stills or artwork yet...just the few grabs from the trailers...

Yes it has those cylinder thingies on the sides and an extra engine. I think those are the same ships after a field mod to make them combat capable, the original Hammerhead was very poorly armed for the size and the extra turrets look like they are just welded onto the sides.

agreed. the cylinder things appear to have been mounted where the side docking ports are in rebels., but they looked like actual structural additions rather than docked modules. the add ons appear to have guns on top and bottom. the extra thruster is probably to offset the extra mass and preserve the speed.

we do not see them firing IIRC, but the added guns do not appear very large, so my guess is they probably refit the hammerheads as anti-starfighter platforms, since by then the fleet also had Nebulon-B's and that MC75 for anti-capital ship power. (with corvettes likely being able to do a bit of both)

Mel made a version for the new Hammerhead from Rogue One, so this shows the differences between the Rebels version and the Rogue One version.

Ah, should have known Mel would be ahead of the game...great stuff, thanks!! ;)

About that certain character from earlier, some details here, including a confiramtion of the voice actor and a teaser of the episode

Interesting data point in that article - that he is appearing in Rebels is supposed to be a secret.

"The news actually leaked over the weekend when a Toys R Us banner promoting the character was accidentally placed into public view before its embargo."

...if there was an embargo on news about that character being in Rebels...obviously, we wouldn't have details on it from FFG, either.

Only question is...SWX58 or SWX64?

Star Wars youtube has a video aswell:

edit: he looks very different from that Poster....

They even got Forrest Whittaker's lazy left eye right in the animation. This is awesome!

Help me Rebels, you're my only hope..

Im really feeling the lack of new Star Wars content in the wake of getting such a massive buzz from Rogue One. I'm getting withdrawel symptoms.. stupid mid season breaks!

On that basis getting g abck to Rebels itself..

Can't wait for Sabine's upcoming arc. Got to love some Mandolorian stuff. We keep getting OT cameos.. almost Boba time I wonder?

I don't need Boba but with the amount ot of cameos we have had it may as well do the full who's who and when the story is focussing on Sabine could be as good a fit as any?

Oh and that video looks good. I like the idea that Saw has somewhat predicted the upcoming storm and is maybe dismissed as the crazy guy.

I liked the Onderon stuff from TCW, he was good in Rogue One so I'm happy to have more of Saw.

Finally caught up on Rebels, can't wait to see TIE Defenders! Maybe the X-wing will be developed as a response to the Defender.

Indeed.

So...makes me re-think the Partisan X-Wing, actually.

I'm still sure that SWX58 is Scum - but if they are going to be having the Rebels interacting with him...and we know Saw (by the time of 'Rogue One') has X-Wings...I dunno, does he have them, "already"?

SWX64 is a Rebel Partisan X-Wing? Pilots: Saw Gerrera, Benthic?, Sabine (obviously - even if she isn't even IN those episodes...), 'Partisan Fighter' as the generic? So that'd be a Rogue One/Rebels tie-in, and per above news article, such crossover being "embargoed" information that has recently been leaked prematurely - so FFG is probably planning their release and announcement articles on whatever the original planned timeline was...

Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide provides info on X-wings - not that different from Legendsverse info:

Emerging onto the rapidly evolving stage of starfighter combat, the Incom T-65 has carved out its niche as the ultimate space superiority fighter - the measure against which all other fighter designs are compared. In this frame of reference, the T-65 has no major weaknesses. It is a swift, manoeuvrable, well-armed and well-armoured combat vessel. There are examples of other craft that exceed the X-wing in these capacities, but all include a compromise that leaves an exploitable weakness.

Design Lineage

Engineers closely examined the performance of preceding craft such as the ARC-170 and Z-95 Headhunter flown during the Clone Wars. They produced a new fighter, which was poised to become a mainstay in the Imperial Starlet when matters of politics and corporate rivalries sidelined the Income Corporation in favour of Sienar Fleet Systems. The Income designs would have gathered dust were it not for the resourceful engineers of the Rebellion who adapted and advanced them beyond initial specs to meet their needs.

So the X-Wing is basically the Huey of the Star Wars universe. All around reliable design that gets mass produced and becomes a mainstay design in starfighter design.

I think the U-Wing is the Huey. Being a Helicopter guy, i'm even enlisting to work on Helicopters, I really like the U-Wing, after seeing it's helicopter function in Rouge One.

The U-Wing is rare:

Versatility is of prime importance in Rebel Alliance weaponry and technology. Chronically underequipped, the Rebellion often presses its equipment into applications that were never conceived of by designers. In this way, the U-wing emerges as an ideal vehicle: troop transport, gunship, medevac lifter, courier ship and shuttle are all roles the craft has been asked to play. That there are so few of them in the rebel ranks makes each one all the more valuable.

Limited Run:

One of the last designs to emerge from the Incom Corporation before it was entirely nationalised by the Empire, the UT-60D never enjoyed a full production run. The careful manipulation of Senate records by Bail Organa led to a rare shipment of U-wings being "lost" in transit to be found by the Rebellion. Th U-wing's nearest cousin, the BT-45D civilian version of the craft - stripped of all its military offensive and defensive applications as well as its hyperdrive - can still be found on a few scattered worlds in the Mid Rim.

If they re-canon the X-wing into being the ultimate super better-than-anyone-elses fighter as a response to the TIE Defender, I'm going to throw back my head and belly laugh every time a rookie pilot in the OT gets shot down by a regular line TIE.

While outnumbering the TIEs about 3 to 1 at the battle of yavin ^-^

That's stupid.

That's stupid, Disney. Don't tell me the U-Wing was rare. We just legitimately never had a reason to see it. In the next edition, throw in a couple in the distance at the battle of endor or the evacuation of Hoth. Will anybody really complain? I sure won't, because narrative cohesion is good. But even if they aren't there, it's still not a huge deal because at the end of the day, they're great designs that deserve to be seen in pretty much all future OT based content, if you ask me.

No point in spending as much time they did designing it and trying to get it right, if they're flat out never gonna use it because it was "rare" as their excuse as to why we never saw it.

If I'm the guys in charge, I'm drafting another release of the OT now that fixes some cohesion errors.

AND makes sure Greedo flat out never shoots.

Well obviously the changes the Rebel engineers made was that they were made to be cheaper.

Deleted the Greedo part because honestly, given the original novelization (which is supposedly still canon), it could have gone either way...

Yeah, this is something I'm annoyed by.

It's "Star Wars" - one of the most heavily 'merchandised' properties out there - so OF COURSE every new movie will have new 'toys' to buy. And often enough, that isn't really a problem, but...

...once we start doing more of these 'anthology' movies that are 'filling in the gaps' stuff...it kinda becomes an issue. New movie, fitting into an existing part of the story...yet marketing demands new ships/fighters/toys so they have something to sell. But now what do you do? How do you slot a new 'toy' that is COOL enough all the kids want to buy one, right into the middle of established material, and somehow explain why it has never been seen before or since .

I think we are going to be seeing a lot of "the only copy we had was destroyed" or "we lost the blueprints" or "it's ancient and nobody knows how to make them anymore" stuff. Which, seriously, are all lazy, suck-ass excuses .

I'm with you - just go ahead and CGI it in to the next extra-special-super-duper-deluxe editions. (Wishlist: delete half of the new material Lucas added to the 'Special Editions' of Episodes IV and VI...V was fine...and re-do ALL the battle sequences with modern CGI, "filling in" where new ship models should exist but aren't there. Special note to do that SPARINGLY. An A-Wing or two at Yavin make sense. A Hammerhead corvette at Endor...hell, have a scene with one of those ramming into the Executor to explain the bizarre plot hole around its loss. Maybe a U-Wing evacuating the base at Hoth. etc - minor, just in the background, to boost internal consistency...)
