STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Super-solid premiere. Y-wing reintroduction gets me pumped about bombing runs on those walkers in Rogue One. Also our rebel vets chances for next week went up again!

I loved Chopper's reaction when Sabine told him to get in the Y-Wing. It was "OH HELL NO!". Also Rex REALLY does not like droids he's fighting against.

I assume you recall how Chopper came into Hera's acquaintance, right?

Nice callback...

Loved the premier. Thrawn is Thrawn. Hondo is Hondo.

I am not particularly sold on Ezra's new Dark Side leanings. Not because he's having them, but because of the cause. When one of the sources of his Dark Side influence seems to be people not listening and respecting him enough, he starts veering into whiny Anakin territory.

I can't believe we got Sabine's TIE before Mining Guild TIEs...

True - he should try to be more like Kylo Ren.

FWIW, "Sabine's Masterpiece" was in season 1. And it is just a repaint - no new model needed.

The Mining Guild didn't show up until season 2. And their variant will require a new mold, so...

Mining Guild should be part of the 4th faction:

Yeah. I do wonder whether or not the pilot of the Y-Wing Chopper rode in survived the crash on Ryloth. It would be kind of cool if the pilot shows up in the series.

HEY , now!

We've already had that thread!

This ship would fit the Scum well, with many scummy characters piloting it in TCW, slavers, bounty hunters, even Maul.

I just hope they won't shove the Mining Guild into S&V.

Ummmm...where else would the Mining Guild go? Sure as heck aren't Rebels or Imperials...

Plus, now that the Rebels have a TIE Fighter...

TIE Fighters for everyone!

The Mining Guild fighters are probably the Monkey Model: clipped wings = less power. Unless the Empire is just loaning out full-strength TIEs to companies nowadays.

Do you feel powerless? Does it seem like bad things happen to you, or your loved ones, and you have no way to stop them? Maybe it's time for you to try the Dark Side.

Dark Side isn't for everyone. Side effects may include: paranoia, hallucinations, mood swings, and emotional outbursts. These side effects may be worse in children and young adults. Do not use Dark Side if you are nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant, as fatal complications may occur.

Call your doctor to see if Dark Side is right for you, and take control of your life; today!

By definition of the 3 factions, you are either Imperial, Rebel or some independent trader/mercenary and, as you pointed out, they were clearly neither Imperial nor Rebel and had services for sale To the highest bidder, were unsavory characters and were willing to shoot first and ask questions and some indetermined amount of time later.

Sounds pretty Scummy to me ;)

Link me to this definition.

Sale to the highest bidder is what literally everyone does. That's how earning money works. Unlike other S&V members they don't do anything illegal to gain profit.

Sure they shoot first, at a known terrorist ship. It's not as their puny guns could do anything to the shielded and armored monster, if the Ghost was innocent it'd try to open a communication channel, or at least turn away and run, not open fire and continue. And not to mention that they were right the whole time, Ghost was there specifically to steal their fuel and murder them all. They didn't do a single scummy thing in this episode.

In what world is Scum and Villany is the default fraction? That's a horrible assumption of the state of the galaxy. By name, they are the outlaws. Pirates, bounty hunters, slavers, crime cartels.

The default fraction for law abiding Imperial citizens should obviously be the Empire. They are Imperials, even if they aren't part of the military.

So future expansions such as Mining Guild Patrol Vessel, Cleaning Guild Space Street Sweeper, Pizza Delivery Shuttle, HoloNet Production SpaceTruck and so on should all land in the Empire.

And yet the Concord Dawn Protectorate is part of S&V

Cleaning Guild Space Street Sweeper, Pizza Delivery Shuttle

YES! I want to know when we see these expansions! - the Street Sweeper could clean up the Bantha Poodoo debris clouds all the ShadowCasters are ejecting from their rigged chutes  , and every faction loves pizza

And yet the Concord Dawn Protectorate is part of S&V

Mando are a special case. And they are most likely secretly bounty hunters anyway.

I'd say that kill all the mining guild workers wasn't the original plan. Of course they could have just used the Ghost's switch the transponder trick.

They didn't want to buy the fuel, there would have to be some shooting. And why did they blow up the station? They did it after taking the fuel.

Is it bad that I agreed with Dark Side Ezra on almost everything? "Yes they are scrapping the ships, yes you have to act now" "Yes, for gods sake leave no witnesses" ...

Also seeing as an awful lot of the ships are Mandalmotors it makes a lot of sense.

As much as I would like to, I can't really argue with your logic on any of that. However, it's still more likely FFG would throw them at S&V than include them as part of the Imperial faction.

And as a long-time EVE online player, those all sound like legitimate corporate entities to me ;)

A little.

But that's kinda the point. The decisions that make you win in war are usually not the decisions that make you good.

I felt a chill (in a good Star Wars way) when Ezra used the force on that walker. More specifically during that last step. That's some good screenwriting there.

No, it means Ezra has actually believable motives. Sure he has some of that Anakin no one respects me nonsense, but in his position and age (younger than Anakin) thats not as much of an issue.

I flipped to Empire Strikes Back on TNT after the Rebels premiere and one scene stood out to me especially.

After Luke leaves Dagobah Obi-Wan says something along the lines of "He was our last hope." and Yoda says "No, there is another: which is in reference to Leia. Yoda who is aware of Ezra and Kanan due to the last season of Rebels, basically says in Empire there are only two capable of becoming jedi left. He says that to Obi-Wan and no one else which implies he's being completely honest and straight forward. There's none of that "from a certain point of view" nonsense.

Another jedi cannot exist, especially in the Rebel Alliance, by the time of a New Hope and especially when Luke joins the Rebel Alliance. Obi-Wan was Leia's only hope. If Ezra, a powerful young force user was still a rebel or alive, why would she go to Obi Wan a much older Jedi? Why would Luke be so special unless he was the last of the Jedi?

Personally, I think that only Luke or Leia stood a snowball’s chance of facing both Vader and the Emperor (at the same time) not because they were the strongest, but because the Emperor’s greed and Vader’s emotional turmoil could stand a chance to pit them against each other. Anyone else would either fall to Vader’s Wrath (because he was too weak) or stand to be corrupted (or killed) by the Emperor once weakened by Vader. If either Sith survived then the cycle would simply continue with one training a new apprentice.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. At least until you get a stern talking-to and your master takes away your Sith toy and gives it to a talking rock that he just met.

Rebels appears to be pushing both Kanan and Ezra into a more grey area of the force, Kanan with light and Ezra with dark leanings.

And as son of "the chosen one" Luke holds significance either way.

Obi-wan was also quite the general in the Clone Wars, as well as Jedi Master on the council. Luke and Leia are special to Yoda because they are the ones capable of fighting Vader. I mean, we all saw what happened when Kanon and Ezra attempted to take on Vader last season, right?
