STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

Obi-wan also hid in a place

I wonder, maybe ezra will choose neither the light or the dark..... following a similar path to ahsoka.

Ahsoka clearly follows the Light Side path. She simply doesn't follow the Jedi path.

I think it's clear that she's not dark side, even a little. That doesn't automatically make her light side path though. She's more akin to the Imperial Knights, who were considered 'Gray'. And, the Imperial Knights also used white/silver blades. The point being, there's a third option as opposed to being either light or dark (jedi or sith).

Actually, grey was merely used as a term of slander of Jedi who didn't follow the cultural norm, it could be argued that their use of the force as purely a distant mediator is more grey. The Jedi order after all fell for good reason.

In obi WANs case, it was also the fact tattooine was a painful memory for Vader. One he avoided almost unconsciously.

Memories of slavery: Check.

Mother's grave: Check.

Sand. Check,check,check.

Best hiding place ever really.

I did like when Vader had to make a visit to Jabba in his comic, he made a side trip to kill a village of Tuskens.

Yeah... Dark Lord of the Sith carries a lightsaber AND a grudge.

The point being, there's a third option as opposed to being either light or dark (jedi or sith).

Well, yeah, you can be light without being a Jedi and dark without being a Sith. Jedi are not the only followers of the Light Side in the galaxy.

Ahsoka is no longer a Jedi, but she still clearly follows the Light in her actions and beliefs.

It's amazing how many people seem to not understand that.

I can't count the number of times I've had to explain to star wars fans that jedi and sith are philosophies, not denominations for anyone light or dark side.

I've heard people call the night sisters "sith" or just about any force user out there a "jedi" of some denomination (dark, gray, or just jedi) even though they were not members of the jedi order or even in some cases never heard of the jedi order...

Hence my comment of "by what measure is a jedi". There are light and dark force users (the mid 90s EU slapped that one on us REALLY hard). But there should be only two sith, and the Jedi... well if you follow their moral code, but don't call yourself a Jedi. Are you a Jedi?

I wouldn't want to be one.

Too much fun stuff to give up for it. Sex, for example...! :P No wonder they were corrupted in the end...!

Jediism is/was a Force-based faith, with all the nuances of belief and the material trappings of organised religion. A component of its core doctrine was a code of morality with Samaritan encouragement to help the weak/helpless/elderly, but there was much more to it than that.

Think about it like this:

You can not lie, not steal, and be kind your parents; but that doesn't make you a Christian. Furthermore, you can be a Christian and yet still not a priest.

You can wear robes, fight Sith, and use a lightsaber; but that doesn't make you a Jedi. You can have a belief in, and be able to use the Force; but you still are not a Jedi.

There's more to being a Jedi than being a friendly person who uses the Force; you need to drink the Cool-aid: chastity and all. Not only that, but like with priesthoods and monastic orders, being inducted into the brotherhood* requires the approval/sponsorship of an existing member. ("My own council I will keep on who is to be Jedi, mmmph.")

Kanan has gotten his Jedihood the official way^, and is thus a "true" Jedi. Ahsoka never went beyond Padiwan before she left; in the technical sense she isn't even a former Jedi, and by her own decision is unlikely to become one. Just like with the friendlier temples and churches she is free to come back and ask for knowledge and guidance from her friends in the faith; but her staying out of the temple proper is again a personal choice.

*(It's just a term girls; sisters are allowed in too. Sheesh.)

^(And by official, I mean official in a "the-knights-are-all-dead-but-by-our-apocalyptic-vaultJDI-failsafe-you-are-getting-the-real-Jedi-experience-courtesy-of-our-hologram-space-ghosts-but-it's-all-in-good-order-the-paperwork-was-done-in-advance-just-sign-here" kind of way.)

Watched the Rebels show with Yoda. Omg. Sooooooo good.

I'm also curious now what kind of damage will be done now that the Empire has that Jedi temple.

At first, I thought maybe it was going to fall apart, but it didn't, and now Vader has it.

I would give anything to watch Vader interact with Yoda...

Or have the Inquisitors try to track down Yoda, end with him teaching them a lesson is patience or something, that would be pretty funny

One thing being in the UK is that you don't get to see episodes until Saturday, which can be a pain as you have to avoid most social media lol

Well, you have to give them SOME time to dub it into the local language, wouldn't want those pesky American accents corrupting the King's English after all.

The dark side of the internet is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be... illegal.

What I want to know is, where is Ventress? She's the real wild card, being a Sith burned by the Sith. If she shows up and does something awesome I'll be a happy camper. Ditto Cad Bane.

Ventress is dead.

I doubt it, especially since it allegedly happened in a book, and we all know how the Mouse is with stuff it didn't make.

It happened in a post disney canon book though.

Post Disney novel based on an unmade Clone Wars arc. So yeah, very much canon. Just like Son of Dathomir.

But not like the yuuzan vong or NJO.

YAY, SILVER LINING!

That reference to Malachor interests me. Don't expect many KOTOR flashbacks in any of the Disney era stuff. I suppose that Malachor has been mentioned in other EU material.

It might be a worthless unusable pile of stones to Sith, but a font of stuff for Jedi. That would be uncharacteristically clever of them.

If not for the fact that Grey Jedis are really darksiders to a degree, which is evil even if it seems like they use the darkside to a minor degree, it would be funny if she was a "Warden of the Sky."

Northern North American accent thank you very much! Canadians are Americans, as are Southern North Americans, Mexicans, South Americans. Central Emericans don't count. They are not Awesome, hence why you don't spell America with an A when talking about Central Emerica.
