STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

I totally called it! It gonna be Malachor they go to. Also, Grand Inquisiter was a temple guard, I'd love to see the backstory to his fall to the dark side

Actually I don't know if this is true. In the Recon vid, they specifically ask if he was actually a temple guard and the only answer was 'yea they have jedi roots; but ultimately they're visions crafted by yoda' (paraphrasing). They never specifically answer the question though.

Absolutely stellar episode. Almost a little rushed to cram it all in, but in spite of that, the characters actually get to pause and breathe quite a bit. Yoda's appearance certainly raises a lot of questions as to the fate of these characters, though ultimately I think there's plenty of potential for Kanan and Ezra to realize that they don't have the tools to fight Vader. Ahsoka of course does, but not enough to do the job.

That said, the biggest struggle for the entire franchise is answering the question of what the Jedi are supposed to do against someone like Palpatine if not fight. Luke kinda answers that question, but its not a very realistic solution every time. Rebels is certainly barking at the door, but it remains to be seen if it can explore the deeper concepts of the Force effectively. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure anyone really has.

The director, Dave Filoni, changed what he said in an earlier interview. I think.

I thought at one point the reason the Inquisitors have the spinning Light Sabers was that since they were not real Jedi (or Sith for that matter) they lacked the training and skill to properly yield a regular Light Saber. I.e. they need the spinning blades to make up for their lack of skill.

But we see the Grand Inquisitor as a former Jedi. Or was that a vision trial and not the truth of it?

I think the Grand Inquisitor was a Temple Guard, because that would explain why He knows/knew SO MUCH about Lightsaber combat.

It's also nice to see how Ezra has gotten better with his saber thanks to Anakin.

Here's hoping that's all he's picked up from Anakin...

That might be true of the Inquisitors in general, but the Grand Inquisitor was clearly quite skilled with his saber and rarely switched to spinning mode. The new pair seems to use it more often though.

Oh he's totally going darkside...

My only question is : for how long?

The new one's definatly aren't as skill (or cool), as the Grand One.

But one is Sarah Michelle Gellar...

The Inquisiter was probably a temple guard, because Dave filoni said in a very early interview that we have seen the Inquisiter in the clone wars show. Since we never see his type of alien in clone wars he must have been one of the temple guards

But if you want to keep the George Lucas connections going he would have to be the personal friend of Obi Wan, the pilot of Yoda, protected Padme' at one point and be remastered into the background of at least two movies.

Yup, maybe that's why he was the "Grand" inquisitor and not just AN Inquisitor.

Just saw the last episode of Rebels... Shroud of Darkness:

Cool, wow, WTF?, cool.

Love how they are bring Ashoka into the mix. Like a good NPC character from the old D&D days, passes on good information and will provide just enough muscle to let the good guys escape.

  1. Kanan becoming a Jedi Knight! Even being the Grand Inquisitor (formally)
  2. The brother/sister inquisitors are still alive?
  3. Vader is/was and always shall be a bad _ _ _!

"I'm SO much better, Kanan, but WHY AM I SO ANGRYYYYYYY!?!?!??!!"

Clone Wars was and Rebels is doing its best to clean up the mess RotS made of Anakin.

Great ep.

Some people seem to be suggesting that Temple Guards aren't full Jedi. Is there anything that actually support this? Cause I haven't seen it.

My question is who is Benicio del Toro playing in Episode VIII, an older Ezra or an older Kanan. :)

Knowing del Toro, its probably Ezra and Kanan's minds both trapped in a single body. He'd probably prefer if it was Zeb's.

Ahsoka's fate?

from Dave Filoni, Rebels Recon #2.17: Inside "Shroud of Darkness"

"I’ve tried to give as many clues as I can as to what did happen after she left the Jedi Order. For now, I have to treat the characters with the experience that I know they have. So Ahsoka can’t lie. She can’t say, “the last time I saw Anakin, I walked away from him at the Jedi temple.” No, no, no, because she has seen him since then. She was involved in a very important mission at the end of the Clone Wars. We’ve gotten to tell a critical piece of her story. One that I wasn’t sure I’d get to tell after Clone Wars stopped. Rebels has really been a benefit, not just for the people working on it, but to continue the story of a character that they all have been a part of creating. We’re so close now to the end, so, you know, it’s exciting."

Things aren't looking great for Ahsoka.

Got into it around series 2, dvr screwed up and gave me 3 episodes of something completely different (not, wasn't me, I set a series link).

Saw one episode where they were trying to get food through an Imperial blockade to a starving plane, HeraSabine and the big guy got sent to meet an grumpy old Mon Calamari enginner who said he had what they needed. Turned out to be the prototype B wing, brought it home just how far back this is set.

Great? no. Interesting, yes.

I wonder how much they are going to 'nod' towards KTOR II with Malachor V? Will there be a simple asteroid belt to fly through or will the whole episode be centered on the floating rocks?

Given that Legends had the B being developed post Yavin, Im not sure it feel that far back. :P

While I agree he may have been one of the guards, his species featured pretty heavily in the Crystal Crisis on Utapau story arch, which despite not being completed is apparently cannon. They are well worth a watch though... The Bad Batch arch is a little more janky, but worth watching if only because we get to see one of the old rookies again.

Some people seem to be suggesting that Temple Guards aren't full Jedi. Is there anything that actually support this? Cause I haven't seen it.

While I wouldnt say they werent 'full jedi' their appearance in the clone wars does come across as.... substantially different. As they are shown to function as an internal police force as well as simple guards, one might suppose that they are intentionally kept distant from the order as a whole, and perhapse have a very different outlook on the world.

I wonder what will become of Ezra. They basically said he will fall to the dark side... There are some speculations he will be the main villain in episode Vlll (played by Benicio del Torro).
