She watch she watch she watch channel zero!

I do wish they'd set up in the purrgil episode that purrgil are sensitive to hyperspace transmissions. It seems plausible in the context of the episode and makes the "let's radio the purrgil" plot more seamless. Since they are natural hyperspace users, it's hardly a stretch that they can detect hyperspace signals. It makes a lot of sense they'd notices signals that stand out on channels that aren't usually full of chatter. But, you know, it'd have been nice to set that up.

Yes, I can accept that purrgil are sensitive to hyperspace frequencies but I agree it's better to introduce something like that when you introduce the purrgil.

So I'm starting to think Filoni had the idea to use the purrgil long before the finale, but not until after the purrgil episode was written. Which is fine, few writers plot absolutely every twist from the start (I'd dispute it's even possible to really do that and get anything done in the long term), but it would be nice if they found a way to slip in the channel zero thing. They could even imply it by showing the wolves had a sensitivity to signals on channel zero too. (The links between some of the abilities of the wolves and purrgil seem strong enough that the implication works.)

I'm happy to rationalise the purrgil's necessity to a hyperspace signal being a natural side-effect of their use of hyperspace, but it's a totally fair criticism that I've had to infer this rather than it's been directly stated or implied.

Again, I'm personally fine with the purrgil twist but I think it's always productive to think "could this have been slightly better?"

We've still got the details of the factory, easy enough to be rebuilt, as well as the plans for the fighter itself - safe and secure ...only a single copy retained...on our impregnable data vault on Scarif. No problem! Lothal down, who cares, we'll just start production somewhere else with those files...

It was implied earlier that the Defender Program is just one of many military programs being touted before the Emperor for consideration. Thrawn had to go before the Emperor to keep the program alive. With Thrawn out of the picture, the Defender program looses it's advocate, and somebody else's pet project gets all the funding.

I'll give you spaces whales. While I think there are ways to explain their involvement and power, such explanations were not offered. However, I must agree with @Herowannabe 's observation that if the whales are lazy, so are ewoks. Such lazy writing is par for the course.

No, it is not lazy writing,* it is a Star Wars trope: the natural world will trump technology. It was present in the very first movie when R2 was blasted and Luke has to rely on himself alone.

When the purrgil showed up, my wife said "of course the space whales save the day, because technology always looses."

*So, I guess it can still be lazy writing, but not from a "how do we make this happen" standpoint, but from a "recycled SW concept" standpoint. OTOH, good writing keeps themes consistent, as opposed to TLJ fiasco.

Also repeated theme in episode 6 with Ewoks, 1 with gungans, and 2-3/clone wars with clone troopers vs droids.

Also in ESB when the Wampa can’t be hurt by Luke’s lightsaber, and when the falcon is unable to escape the jaws of the giant space worm. And in RotJ when the Rancor bursts through the metal door keeping it imprisoned...

wait a sec....

That was just George trying and failing to realize his original script material where the Wookiees fought alongside the rebels during the battle of Yavin (which was the Wookiee homeworld and where the imperials had enslaved them). George wrote the original drafts in the waning days of the clone wars, I mean the Vietnam war. We finally got to see full frontal Wookiee battles in Episode 3, the sixth and final SW movie Lucas had anything to do with directly.

So repeated themes might be seen as repeated attempts to visualize decades old concepts. Or obsessions.

Now that we know they can defeat the Empire, when do we get the Purrgil expac with Ezra and Kanan as pilots? (And a couple of generic, unridden space whales. . .)

I for one will not buy a Star Wars RPG until I can be a purrgil

And am not buying any more X-Wing Miniatures until I see the "Captain Pellaeon vs. the White Purrgil" expac.

The point is to not try to understand, for understanding people is like chasing the dragon.

Until there is a Herman Melville (and other literary classics) miniatures game, the idea is sound.

I'm sure FFG can negotiate a deal with Melville's estate.

Oh great, one more special thing that Rebels (and let’s face it, probably scum too) get while the imperials get the shaft. <_<

Yeah. It's about a genetically modified dude from the past with beautifully smooth pecs and his obsession with a huge nuclear sex toy. I really don't see the overlap. . .

Yes, but that quote did not originate from Wraith of Kahn. It’s from Moby D I C K.

edit: blasted curse word making an actual name bleeped out. To all who go by that shortening of Richard, I’m sorry.

Lucas has said in multiple interviews the original 6 movies were politically undertoned about the Nixon administration.

So it’s no surprise really to see the same theme repeated when you have 6 movies covering the same concept.
