STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

I need more details dude, cause' re-cannoning the Mon-Calamari as a single species-sized episode of Hogans Heroes does not seem like a very well thought-out story decision.

Edit. Yes, Hogan's Heroes was a good show. No, re-making it with a race of fish-people does not amount to well-thought-out storytelling.

I like it compared to simply converting existing ships.

I love Hogan's Heroes! was just watching it the other day! maybe there was an imperial version on Schutlz who let them escape!

Heck, legends Ackbar was already Hogan anyway, making Tarkin Klink. I liked the old version better too, converting extensive deep space explorers into warships and having them in the first place because they developed hyperdrive on their own and had the fleet on a long-term exploration mission in wild space, deeply outside of known space. It was fitting as well that the hyper routes to moncal were not save … I really like the old cannon more, BUT this old canon is gone since nearly a decade and was replaced with MonCal as a republican member, their own king and senators, part in the clone wars and having their own quaren vs monCal civil war during the clone wars.

Still, the MonCal cities are in the ocean, so transforming huge living space buildings into ships in secret sounds legit enough, and having hangars is something rather normal when those hangars are access ports to the ocean and for aquatic vehicles. The shield tech for space born hangars and under-water ones is basically the same in star wars. It a bit cheaper and more silly than the old version, but it rather Star Wars typical still.

2:39, looks like a old Imperial officer with a personal guard. Looks kind of like Yularen, except the grey uniform.

If only there was an Imperial Officer intrinsically linked to Thrawn...

Did someone say FFG+Sabine+Fang Fighter? ...hah, I know it seems a bit of a joke to have Sabine in more ships, but this is something I could jump along to.

I had to pause/rewind my way through that trailer, looks like they've really gone a long way into mixing it up with everything else Star Wars related at this period in time (New Hope, Rogue One, Mandalorian fans, super size ships, Stormtrooper variations, even Yularen, Obi, Maul, Clone Wars humour, old Clones, kungfu-robot-fighting, laser whips, wrist shields, Defenders, A-wings, Y-wings, X-wings.....)! There's not much that they didn't include, pretty full on.

It is also looking that Sabine's mom is at the very least inspired by Rook Kast.

Don't know if it's been mentioned here but last summer, at Sydney ComicCon, Katee Sackoff, who was the voice of Bo-Katan Kryse in The Clone Wars, said that the character was coming to Rebels in season 3. She also said that her parts of the show had been recorded. So, it looks to me that Bo-Katan is Sabine's mother.

Nah - Filoni said in an interview that she wasn't. Just that Sabine's mother was 'in the throne room' in those Clone Wars episodes. So her mother is apparently someone else who at least knew Bo-Katan, and likely the reason Bo-Katan reappears.

Because in Star Wars, everyone has to be related somehow.

Correlation does not equal causation.

Except that she very much isn't. Even with the time passed and different art style, Sabine's mother clearly isn't Bo-katan.

He also said Ahsoka wasn't Fulcrum. He's willing to lie to maintain suprise.

I've heard that Saw Gerrera is making an apperance this season, therefore I'm 100% sure he is Sabine's mother.

Father is probably Bor Gullet but about this I'm just 80% sure.

I know it might be wrong, but . . .

Ahahah, oh god, that was not a mental image I needed but I'm laughing!

I was already excited when I saw the TIE Defender blueprints at the end of Inside Man. And now we finally get to see TIE Defenders in action. Sweet.

It's still true, from a certian point of view.

Kallus isnt Fulcrum either- Fulcrum is a general name for rebel sources.

You see the Braha'tok gunship jumping into the fleet in the upper left at 1:05

Showing up a LOT, now. Wonder if 'Rebels' will bother to show us how they join the fleet, or if they just...appear?

I think it's more likely that when the fleet gathers, you'll just see a ton of different ships you haven't seen in Rebels before just from all the other cells showing up.

I like it compared to simply converting existing ships.

Like building a city on top of a bunch of walkers so you can mine on the move because daylight destroys everything on the surface.

i would prefer to see a bit of both with the MonCal ships.. we know that they were building ships before the Empire. so you could have both. older ships built before the war that they converted over to warships, and new builds made for the 'great exodus' originally disguised as buildings.

or perhaps instead of the MC80's being the ships that were disguised, the MonCals built massive (cloud city sized) vehicles for their exodus.. which included shipyards that built the smaller ships we see. which would certainly help explain why there were so few MonCal cruisers seen in the films.

either way i could see it working.. look at the Clone wars episodes focusing on them. their buildings do look rather like their MC-80's.

though to be honest, i would love to see Rebels add more of the Separatist warships to their fleets. your telling me that after building the Providence Class Dreadnoughts for the Separatists, the Quarren didn't save a few when the Republic became the Empire, and join the Rebellion with them? or at least a few Recusant -class ships? (or did the Rift between the Mon Cal's and the Quarren that was increased during the Clone War prevent the quarren from willingly joining any group the mon cals were a major member of?)

Appears as if we are jumping down into the Mandalorian fan service hole again. Anyone who dislikes Karen Traviss' portrayal of the Mandalorians looks like they'll be losing all credibility.

Please, if this was Traviss, Sabine would be giving Kanan lessons.

In more ways than one.... Also emphasis on NO ONE CALLING THE CHILD VENKU ANYMORE!

Read Tarkin and Catalyst. There are references to the focused campaign The Empire ran to dismantle anything left of the CIS war machine. There's even suggestion of this in Rebels when the Storm Troopers encounter battle droids. I doubt many CIS warships survived the inititial campaign, much less the 17+ years following; especially considering Palpatine knew where to look.

I havnt read Tarken or Catalist, but my headcanon has a large lost separatist battlefleet under a Super Tactical Droid named Katana. This "Katana Fleet" disapears till thrawn's return.

Heck, 'Rebels' still has 2 years to go. I wouldn't mind the season finale of this year being the Rebel fleet seen to date COMPLETELY wiped out, and the Rebels retreating into the Outer Rim to try to scrape together enough Clone Wars-era leftovers to try again...

(Which would also explain why the Rebel leadership in 'Rogue One' was reluctant to act on their intel - if 'the last time' they had united the different cells it ended in a disaster they still hadn't felt recovered from...)

Indeed. The two things fit together well. It would make total sense for the guys that had entire armies of droids to try using a completely automated fleet, only to have it malfunction and disappear into hyperspace.

Not even malfunction- just driven off into exile by Imperial victory.

They malfunction AFTER they vanish, due to old age and lack of spare parts.

Maybe it's more "Mon Cals treat their exploration ships as arcologies" - when they're exploring, they're in space - and when they're not exploring, they return to planet, sink into the water, and dock with platforms on the seabed - but they always have resident populations in them.

So - what we're seeing in TCW is exploration ships, which happen to be docked.

That is a really cool Mon Calamari theory. I always wondered why they had so many capitol ships, when every other system has been totally shut down for anything larger than a corvette by the empire.

The. Midseason. Trailer. Though? AMAZEBALLS! I can't even say which part I'm most excited about! Finally closing the Maul storyline has always been something I want to see. Makes me shiver with excitement. The final battle is also a huge draw though, with Thrawn finally pulling the plug on the little alliance. Mandalore. Defenders. Geonosis and Saw Guerrera. Lots of destroyer droids (maybe a return of the droid tactician from episode 2?)
