The markings aren't right for 181st, just red patches near the wingtips and backs. That being said I am all for canonizing Soontir Fel
As far as how some people a viewing the Rebels on this thread, I would compare them to the Wolverines from Red Dawn . Yes their stealing from, and fighting the established government, but they are trying to free people from that oppressive government at the same time. May I remind you of Tarkin Town, or the planet they blockaded that was starving. And then there's the general jerkish behavior of every Imperial on Lothal. Or how about almost wiping out an entire species, with weapons that are supposed to be illegal. Yes, not every cell or soldier is perfect (I can only imagine how Saw's group'll be), but Phoenix Cell is clearly one of the good ones.
The difference with that comparison is that in Red Dawn, America is invaded and occupied. In Star Wars, the Emperor and his policies are legally elected and implemented through the Republic's own political systems.
The Republic had limited terms - maximum of two, but thanks to a series of crisises, Palpatine had stayed in power long after he ought to have stepped down. His "declaration" is really nothing more than a takeover, a "Julius Caesar unilaterally declares himself Dictator For Life" moment (or nearest modern equivalent).
The nearest modern equivalent of course being Hitler, who, like the Emperor, was legitimately elected then tore up the rule book. Lucas was never shy about his Empire = Space Nazis position or in any way half hearted about ramming it home on-screen.

The metaphorical Nazi imagery was even stronger in TFA, so Disney doesn't have any problems with continuing that comparison. That makes me more intrigued by what we will see in Rogue One, as well as the more realized and humanized characters in Rebels - particularly Kallus.

30 seconds of footage, two dead pilots.
I wonder where do Rebels get enough A-wings to keep replacing losses.
They come back from the dead, like redshirts. Why else would they be called Phoenix Squadron?
Just think, what if it was Phoenix squadron that had to do the trench run?

Maduro and Chavez are more modern than that.

Maybe, but bringing more current politics into this harbours a risk of this ancient thread getting locked, and none of us want that, do we?
Aye, best we stick to the history Star Wars draws most from. As Artemis points out, they went the full Nurumberg in TFA so it seems the analogy carries forward to the current incarnation. I suspect that Kallus is the equivalent of Rommel or Von Stauffenberg, the honourable man on the wrong side.
I wouldn't go that far. Going wholly over to the Sith gives you those gold pupils, which Luke plainly didn't have.Luke was indeed dark side by endor, indeed that's WHY the black outfit, and why the flap was down on his shirtshowing the white... Indicating still good in him.
Or, and though I hesitate to bring prequels into it, when Annie-kins was being tested by Yoda & Friends, Master Penishead says, "Your thoughts dwell on your mother..."Not much of a 'Star Wars' fan, then, eh? Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister . So, you have a twin sister! Your feelings have now betrayed her, too.Takes Ren's force-mind-reading, which we've never seen elsewhere, and gives it to Maul.
Lightsabers remaining unchanged is more a sign of the Jedi Order's (intentional) stagnation than any inability to improve them. Say what you will about the Sith and other Dark Side users, but they do have one solid point in their favor: they evolve . They recognize that change is inevitable, that the struggle of life is what defines a being and drives it forward. That's why they get the funky lightsabers while Light Side users get the clunky ones.
And as far as Kota/Kanan goes...
The best part of the 'legends/canon' split is that if something in Legends is good , they can use it without being saddled with the trash. To say that the good/trash ratio of Legends has a lot more on the trash side is being generous.
So, Kota goes a bit younger and was a Padawan during the Purge? Now has a romantic entanglement to symbolize drifting further from what the Order was? Only reluctantly takes part in any organized Rebellion, and does so not because of some greater cause but because his love is involved? Sounds like a good adaptation to me.
So, Thrawn exists? *squee*
So, Maul teaches the Sith Code from KOTOR? Pretty good.
And not a single Suncrusher or Wyrwulf in sight.
They didn't really split. Because of the vaguness of the events in between ep 6-7, Legends being secondary canon and not non-canon, the sun crusher is still good.
Also nothing conflicts with Galen and Kota still existing. In fact because of the footage in the trailer for rogue one, that the last thing finished on the ds being the siper laser, it justifies SWTFU, because we see that the laser was one of the first things being built on the DS in ep 3 at yhe end of the movie. Yet the whole thing, suoer laser cavity, is the last thing being finished.
The only way this works is if you take into consideration that Star Killer in swtfu greatly damaged the super laser cavity, and they had to build a new one, hence why the whole thing is being set in place as seen in rogue one, as opposed to already being built like we saw in Revenge of the Sith.
If we got to see the Mind Probe that Vader used on Leia in ANH I'm pretty sure it would have looked a lot like what Kylo Ren does. Vader also drugged his prisoners for interrogation, maybe Ren would have been more successful against Rey if he followed Grampa's techniques more closely.Takes Ren's force-mind-reading, which we've never seen elsewhere, and gives it to Maul.
Not much of a 'Star Wars' fan, then, eh? Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister . So, you have a twin sister! Your feelings have now betrayed her, too.
It was actually more like this.

And I'm okay with that considering Kota isn't canon anymore. It makes Kanan a more interesting, fleshed out version of Kota.Remember Master Kota, that cool grizzled jedi who survived O66, has clone trust issues, and lost his sight? Basically Kanan has become him.
And if that makes Ezra a more interesting, fleshed out version of Starkiller, I'm okay with that too.
Nether of them are better versions of Galen or Kota. Both of them had awesome background. Nether has been made non-canon. At best the only reference anyone has for them being non-canon, is a quote from one of the guys running yhe sw department that dictates canon, but he retracted his statment and then deleted it from twitter.
The weird (and annoying) thing to me in this episode is the
MacGuffin of bringing the two cubes together.
I'm not usually the one doing the fanboy complaining in this thread (more the fanboy gushing) but it seemed like a kind of poorly contrived plot device.
"Bring two libraries together, one Dark and one Light Side, and somehow through the Force they know everything!"
I appreciate the idea that balance is what this season is all about, the interaction between light and dark in a more nuanced way then Jedi or Sith approach it, but that felt quite sudden and made me just go, "ehhh, okay, if you say so..."
Also, how long has the crew been with Kanan and Space-Aladdin, and they still don't know that Lightsaber+the Force+blaster bolt=blaster bolt aimed at what the Jedi wants? I mean, yeah, Maul would have gotten down off the roof eventually, but jeez.
The rest of the episode, though, was great. Maul's casual whisper to the droid about the prisoners before the final scene with Ezra, the casual mention of how he once ruled Mandalore, and a dozen other little things made this one quite good. Not great, but I think I'd rewatch it just because of how Maul's character is being expressed. It's different from the other (canon) high-level Dark siders we've seen over the years: Vader has a pretend chill overlaying his fear to confront what he's become, the Emperor has a hateful amusement at everything in the universe, but Maul is genuinely driven by rage, which he tries to hide with a faux-cultured attitude. I wonder how much of that rage stems back to how he became an apprentice in the first place, as an unwilling sacrifice by the Dathomiri?

Just a friendly reminder:
There is no secondary canon.
There is canon and there is Legends, which is totally non-canon.
According to the list in
Aftermath: Life Debt
the list of canon is thus:
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
The Clone Wars
Dark Disciple
Revenge of the Sith
Lords of the Sith
Tarkin
A New Dawn
Rebels
Catalyst
Rogue One
A New Hope
Heir to the Jedi
Battlefront: Twilight Company
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Aftermath
Aftermath: Life Debt
Aftermath: Empire's End
Bloodline
The Perfect Weapon
The Force Awakens
WRT Tatooine:
Filoni says that there are plenty of planets in the Star Wars universe with two suns. Also, I haven't seen the episode yet, but isn't it possible that "two sons " was what was meant? Not that Luke and Leia are twin sons, but they are twins, and they are the key to defeating Sidious and Vader.
You are wasting your time. His views on canon are not anyone else's. I would say that Bloodline pretty much cancelled out all the other post ROTJ EU.
I think it's worth remembering that there was no definitive Jedi "uniform" until The Phantom Menace came out. And we see this in the fact that nobody but Obi-Wan is really seen in a brown hooded robe in the OT... except for virtually everyone on Tatooine. And as far as we're aware, Tatooine is not home to thousands of hidden Jedi (or is it?).

Hello, who is this?
Oh, 1983? You are looking for Vigil? Why, what's up?

Looks like 2 old hermits and some slave guy from Tatooine. Fashionistas they are not.
I always thought Jedi would either dress to blend in with the natives or wear simple clothes that allowed for freedom of movement.

Yea, I still want Soontir...
Just think, what if it was Phoenix squadron that had to do the trench run?
Squadrons of A-wings begin their assault on the deflection towers, two squadrons worth porkins into them, clearing the way for the trench, and then they form a big long line, ships in the front die to turbo lasers, and ships in the back die to Vader, until Hera is the last one left and the Ghost saves her from vader at the last moment (she's in the two seater A-wing) and Kanan uses the force to blow up the death star buy guiding the missiles.. So you have about 500 dead phoenix squadron pilots and one atomized death star.

Who (from the looks of it) is going to pull a vader from season two. show up early, do allot of behind the scenes work for most of the season, and show up for the 4 part finale to do something major. I could be wrong though.
Cute episode. Could have done with less Bendu and more action on the Ghost. Maul might have also sensed Yoda is alive but Obi-Wan seems more logical!given Maul's reaction at the end.
