STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Takes Ren's force-mind-reading, which we've never seen elsewhere, and gives it to Maul.

Not much of a 'Star Wars' fan, then, eh? Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister . So, you have a twin sister! Your feelings have now betrayed her, too.

If we got to see the Mind Probe that Vader used on Leia in ANH I'm pretty sure it would have looked a lot like what Kylo Ren does. Vader also drugged his prisoners for interrogation, maybe Ren would have been more successful against Rey if he followed Grampa's techniques more closely.

Luke was indeed dark side by endor, indeed that's WHY the black outfit, and why the flap was down on his shirtshowing the white... Indicating still good in him.

I wouldn't go that far. Going wholly over to the Sith gives you those gold pupils, which Luke plainly didn't have.

Irises.

Gold irises: gold pupils look like this. --->

And that illustrates how the Empire=Dark Side=Selfish. The dedicated Imperials, the ones that aren't even tempted to join the Alliance, are in it for their own gain and nothing more. Oh, they may mouth platitudes about protecting the people or serving a greater good, but the ones that actually DO feel that way eventually realize they're on the wrong side and move over to the Rebellion.

That reminds me - I assume everyone noticed in that episode that...

Agent Kallus's, like, only line was him blatantly criticizing an action of the Empire.

That can't be an accident.

speaking of which, what is Kallus's point in the story now? I mean, he didn't really do anything in season two (correct me if I'm wrong) except for the episode where he is stranded wit Zeb on one of Geonosis' moons. I have hope he will be featured more in season 3, and I do have faith that he will leave the empire. He , imo, is one of the most mysterious characters in Rebels.

Someone said he'd be Fulcrum. I watched the trailer again to see if he'd be Fulcrum.

Re-saw the McQuarrian-style JetpackMandotroopers.

Am now hoping for Imperial Protectorate starfighters to become a thing.

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that Luke's outfit was chosen for its similarity to the clothing commonly worn by priests. That it was suppoed to reflect the religious aspects of the Jedi that Luke was now one of.

I think it's worth remembering that there was no definitive Jedi "uniform" until The Phantom Menace came out. And we see this in the fact that nobody but Obi-Wan is really seen in a brown hooded robe in the OT... except for virtually everyone on Tatooine. And as far as we're aware, Tatooine is not home to thousands of hidden Jedi (or is it?).

If you look at what Jedi wore in the EU prior to The Phantom Menace , this is reflected there. It is then further reflected after The Phantom Menace through the creation (in the EU) of a rather tenuous connection between the Jedi and Tatooine. It is only after The Phantom Menace and especially after The Attack of the Clones that we see the Jedi "uniform" emerge in the EU.

It's been over ten years since I read these things, so your mileage may vary.

Hello, who is this?

Oh, 1983? You are looking for Vigil? Why, what's up?

He's doing that Kylo mind read shizz on her.

Yup, Rebels just seems so lazy sometimes.

Takes Ren's force-mind-reading, which we've never seen elsewhere, and gives it to Maul.

Actually we have seen that force power before, Vader did it to Luke to find out of his sister (you could argue that one) and more importantly the jedi used it as interrogation tool during TCW. So basically Filoni invented that force power as explicit power and gave it even some limitations along the way. Kylo Ren is literally using a power which was used in canon by yoda, kenobi, skywalker and iirc windu before him. JJ knows his backgrounds, he is just not good at using them, so it became imho silly how JJ visualsted Kylos mind-reading ability.

And as far as we're aware, Tatooine is not home to thousands of hidden Jedi (or is it?).

That which does not kill you makes you stronger (unless it cuts your legs off in which case it makes you shorter!). :P

I don't there is a Jedi Uniform, that just seems very non-jedi. besides the temple guards of course.

My opinion (and I would bet many many others), but they all have to die...Ezra, Kanaan, Maul, Ashoka, or Star Wars is broken. Period.

Why? Because Yoda said that Luke was the last of the Jedi?

Even setting aside the idea that Yoda and Obi-Wan weren't training Luke as a Jedi, but as a weapon against Darth Vader (that I find compelling; Jedi DO lie when it's not selfish from their point of view), Ahsoka had turned (been ejected) from the Order, Kanan got his rank of Jedi Knight from a temple vision involving a known traitor and his story isn't finished yet, and we don't know what happens to Ezra.

The outstanding line to me from this episode is from Governor Pryce:

"They fight so hard to gain so little."

The Imperials simply do not understand why the Rebels fight. They risk their lives and freedom every time they go against the vastly overwhelming might of the Empire, and for what? A few old Y-Wings without hyperdrives? Getting food to starving miners? To say a few words about how suicidal they are across the HoloNet? There's no gain in it, no profit, no long retirement sipping martinis while watching the ocean wash across Corellia's shores, so what's the point?

What's to understand about terrorists. They indiscriminately kill soldiers of the the legitimate government, use magic to cause soldiers to commit suicide, steal war material, spread disinformation and lies, indoctrinate emotionally unstable youth into their ranks and train them into super soldiers. I'm willing to bet that Mon Mothma is looking forward to the day she gets to sit back in Sheev's throne.

Well when you put it like that...

Remember Master Kota, that cool grizzled jedi who survived O66, has clone trust issues, and lost his sight? Basically Kanan has become him.

And I'm okay with that considering Kota isn't canon anymore. It makes Kanan a more interesting, fleshed out version of Kota.

And if that makes Ezra a more interesting, fleshed out version of Starkiller, I'm okay with that too.

If we are taking a slight detour into Force Unleashed, I will say this: I liked the first one. It fit nicely in the continuity and Vader's motives felt very "Sith" to me. The story added something to Star Wars and then ended in a nice way.

The 2nd one, however, felt a bit forced to me. The light side ending felt as though we were stepping into something that was more of an alternate reality than something that would fit in the overal continuity of things.

If Star Wars Rebels decides to take the nice parts of that story and make it their own... then I'm actually ok with it :)

I'd be quite happy with Kota and Starkiller being reborn in new canon as Kanan and Ezra.

I always felt the that first game was a decent story with average gameplay whereas the second was great to play but had a weaker tale to tell.

I can see Kanan dying at some point, maybe even soon. But Ezra? I can't see right now how he'll have disappeared or not be worthy of mention by the time the OT comes around.

To say that the good/trash ratio of Legends has a lot more on the trash side is being generous.

Sturgeon's Law applies pretty well to the "Legends" stuff, in my opinion...

Holocrons of fate was quite well done. Interesting implications for the force and the relationship between the sith and the Jedi as well as for episodes for the rest of the season with what appears to be the reigniting of Maul's most feverish vendetta.

Precisely. I love the EU wipe because they can cherry pick and polish all the good stuff they want .

Season 3, episode 2 is up.

Is this the next stop?

Are we going to Tatooine?

Mixed feelings about this one. Some strange ideas, and overall a not very exciting set up for more exciting episodes in the future.

To terrible. I still have flashbacks to that awefull "pull the Star Destroyer from the sky" scene that by all means should have been amazing, but then turned out to be an overly long sequence of imprecise TIE-Fighter crashing and QTE prompts that didn't even show you what you needed to do. It honestly killed what little faith I had left in the game, made me even stop caring about the story, because everything I had to do for the story bits was so tedious! Gosh that game was such a dissapointment to me...

Yeah I couldn't do anything on that until I read a internet thing saying the prompts were wrong and did it ignoring them.

Favorite new word from Ep2: "Shadow-Lore". :o

I guess we're going to tatooine next episode. Good job on Lucasfilm's part for not spoiling that in the trailer

It also seems space has become more deadly since "the call"

I fell this #2 was a sort of missed episode...

As far as how some people a viewing the Rebels on this thread, I would compare them to the Wolverines from Red Dawn . Yes their stealing from, and fighting the established government, but they are trying to free people from that oppressive government at the same time. May I remind you of Tarkin Town, or the planet they blockaded that was starving. And then there's the general jerkish behavior of every Imperial on Lothal. Or how about almost wiping out an entire species, with weapons that are supposed to be illegal. Yes, not every cell or soldier is perfect (I can only imagine how Saw's group'll be), but Phoenix Cell is clearly one of the good ones.

Anyone have the preview for " The Antilles Extraction"
Loved holocrons of fate but really can't wait for Antilles to return.
Also it looks like both Maul and Ezra's questions have answers on the same planet...

They have to stop each other from changing the future. Skywalker is the one that stops the sith, and Ezra's question was how to stop them. He'll save Skywalker behind the scenes. If the dimwitted farm boy sees jedi and sith fighting as a kid he might not go along so readily with old Ben. I hope we do see Obi Wan when they get to Tatooine. Maybe Kenobi will finally get to kill Maul in an epic fight.

Maybe this is how Leia knew Ben was on the planet when she sent the droids to him.
