STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

But hay... We get more Maul story time... That makes up for what they have done to Vader.

I think they have made Vader feel more dangerous than he ever has before. He can actually, you know, move around instead of...lumber.He's even more tough in the new canon comics (especially his own series [of course])

He clearly doesn't watch the show.

Yeah, Vader feels like a right f**kin Badass in Rebels.

So when can we expect the next season for Rebels?

Somewhere they will have Vader lose because of his huge cape I suspect, kinda like what they did in one story with Grievous, although he was more inconvenienced rather than flat out losing in that part of the story.

Not really

Capes =defeat I.Star Wars? What have I missed these long years? And happy Star Wars anniversary! 1977.Man, it has been a ride.

Lando disagrees with you. =D

So when can we expect the next season for Rebels?

Darth Vader getting his butt kick more... They plan on having him fight Maul... Vader has already beaten Maul before in other fights, and will beat Maul Killer, but here I have a feeling they will have Vader lose to Maul. They will also probably make it out that Maul wasn't taking the fight seriously while Vader was.

If Maul beats Vader he has to cheat and I am fine with that.

Your assesment of Vader in Rebels is wrong. It is the other imperial forces that look bad, Vader is just amazing.

Besides, im sure they will have Vader kill Maul definetively. Not only to show how powerful he is, but also so Anakin is the one who kills every single Sith.

That's a good point, although Maul has disassociated himself from the Sith (at least in word, if not deeds)

With the Wave 9 announcement, could these be hints for things to come in Season 3?

We may see more of Ketsu Onyo and Fenn Rau. And maybe mommy Poe, fighting the good fight with recommissioned ARC-170. One only hopes. . .

I hope for some sexy ARC-170 action.

By the way, Season 1 finale aired early March and the Season 2 trailer was out mid april, Season 2 was finished at the end of March and we don't have anything, not even pictures :(

Well, (At least) Two Episodes premier at Celebration in 6 weeks...

Yeah, leaving a proffessed non-Jedi in a Sith temple just seems like a bad idea. Spending a significant amount of time in a Sith Temple is just a bad idea...

Unless you're a ghost and can't leave. You know, because of all the haunting you have to do.

And that's the other possibility, but the way it was done makes that way more unlikely.

Star wars has ghosts. Most are glowy or shadowy or otherwise clearly ghost-y.

Ahsoka was none of those things.

You're right. She must be a worm zombie, then.

Moved too gracefully.

Look, I'd like to see undead jedi even more than I'd like to curry the neighbors cat. But we gotta face it, she's alive.

I saw a nondestinct shimmer in a door from far away. It could've been Sigmund Freud, your uncle Murray, anybody. Couldn't have been Mary Sue Jedi....

high res from the scene seems to disagree :)

That and the writers have confirmed that it's her...

While this episode annoys me every time I see it, now, I've started to wonder...

...is it the writers that chickened out on Ahsoka having her arc permanently ended? Unable to 'kill their darlings'?

Or could this be intervention by The Mouse Ears - too much merchandising potential lost to have a character like that 'dead'. (Hadn't thought of this angle, but recent news of 'Rogue One' reshoots being ordered by Disney execs because they didn't like the feel of the movie...well, has me wondering, now. Maybe the "Ahsoka can't actually die" directive came from management intrusion?)

So wave 9's reveal confirms the Arc-170 for Rebels season 3 at some point I believe. I think they'll have Poe's mom pilot one at some point. Enough exciting things to look forward to in the summer trailer anyway!

I can pretty much assure you that Disney execs do not have that kind of power. Kennedy was able to handle Iger when he wanted TFA out in May 2015. She also delayed Episode VIII for Johnson.

Oh yeah man! I can't wait to see Rebels flying those gorgeous starfighters against The Empire! Guarantee you we'll see our beloved heroes in them, too! Just think!

Chopper taking up the Astromech role in an ARC-170! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

As an artist, I've discussed and pondered the phrase "Kill your Darling" many a time. The conclusion that I've come to is that to KYD is to eliminate a piece/character that a lot of time or work went into, but either:

A. - Is static, and unable to be further developed character-wise.

B. - Is pretty, but distracts/detracts/disrupts the overall composition.

C. - Has been labored upon, but is resistant to improvement.

The context of the phrase is "Kill your darling, it's time to move on."; with that in mind here's my opinions on Ahsoka.

She is definitely a darling character-wise, with many years of development. She doesn't distract from the themes of Rebels, and in fact has provided a nice shade of light gray to highlight the dark grays and whites. She has confronted Darth Vader in a climactic struggle, and resolved a fine character conflict in the process.

Now since B and C don't apply, the only reasons I can see to kill Ahsoka permanently would be that she has no more conflicts to resolve and is gumming up the works story-wise, or the characters are in need of a conflict and context would make killing a fan-favorite cause one or emphasize an existing one.

Her Vader Arc was entirely Rebels-contained, the sum of Ahsoka's friendship with Anakin and Vader's own personal conflict: none of her personal conflicts from TCW carried over, and we know little of her life in the interim. Since Vader is already the "Big Bad" having him kill Ahsoka would do little for the rest of the characters story-wise: it would be much more useful if someone like Kallus or better yet an Inquisitorial Zare Leonis did the deed, as the resulting conflict would drive interesting action and interaction between the characters.

Aside from adding punch to the multi-resolution of the season final (which had plenty of killing and punch as-is) I see little reason to kill her off for good with the amount of story potential she has left.

depends what you mean, I haven't seen anything overtly legends (that I recall) but its a great show in its own right so if you're not watching. You're missing out

Which is, of course, its own version of the Interdictor, more akin to the Interdictor Star Destroyer, than what most people recognize as the "Interdictor", which is the Immobilizer 418 Cruiser...

So even that is "Rebels Unique".

The B-wing stole pretty heavily from some obscure WEG sources.

But she didn't "resolve it". That is the entire point. By not dying...having both Vader and her walk away from a conflict that could ONLY be resolved by one of their deaths...it means the conflict was left unresolved.

Notably, it also doubles-down on a bit of a plot hole in the episode. Chopper took over, and lets say sabotaged, one Inquisitor's TIE. Darth Maul left the planet in another. Vader came and went on his own ship, and the other Rebels came and went on their own ship. Which means there is still one Inquisitor's TIE unaccounted for, as well as whatever ship Maul originally arrived on (possibly wrecked, but that wouldn't be a problem for Ahsoka). IE., she's hardly even inconvenienced by the way the fight was shown to end.

I haven't watched Rebels. Does it make references to pre-Disney canon? If so, I might have to start watching it.

Oh yeah, definitely.

What? I mean it was certainly a touch larger but that's seriously really it. It's even shaped like an Immobilizer 418.

Not sure what you're goin for here dude.

Shaped, as in, it is a Triangle with Four Lumps?

I am referencing both the Star Wars Rebels Insider information at the time, which stated it was "Significantly Larger", and "Not the Immobiliser Cruiser of Old."

The Armada Model is a good reference for it - as it is a spitting image of the Rebels Version - also has the centerline trench system that the Immobiliser does not have.

It also places its size as "Larger than a Victory" in the scaling system - but it still is smaller than an Imperial... But the Victory is still significatntly larger than the 418...

There are numerous small differences, moreso than just size.

I am mostly referencing what, y'know, the Official Sources themselves have said on it.
