STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Yeah, I heard "part-timer" too.

Season 3 is going to be phenomenal. I'm going to rewatch seasons 1 and 2 so many times before it comes out though. A Chopper kill list, as well as a Phoenix Squadron death list will both be created.

Incredible episode. It will be better after some brain bleach to remove the helicopters, but that is really the worst of it.

So... Treya? Was that Treya in the Holicron?

I liked the sense that a terrible weapon was used to and that battle. Less catastrophic than in the games, but cool and gave us a sense of historic Jedi/Sith battles. I actually really like the idea of the cross guard design being tied to ancient Jedi like that.

Ahsoka.... :(

Honestly, that should be it. Her surviving would cheapen that incredible culmination of fate. Once again, Rebels has brought us a truly terrifying Vader, and gave us a character to pity and hate and care about really more than ever. The mask was an incredible touch, particularly when they used it to blend the two voice actors, as were little things like how easily Ahsoka could keep up on speed, but how even using both her arms she was being physically overpowered. I can't say enough how incredible Vader is in this series, and when he appears on his TIE the sense of consequence was simply crushing.

I hope that's it, because anything else feels as cheap as Maul, who, despite my annoyance with, really did great things for the episode. I'm amazed at just how much the episode made me wonder if his inevitable betrayal might not be this day. His banter with Ezra was terrific, though it was a bit annoying that he served as executioner to keep the main cast's hands clean. Kannan paying the price for Ezra's nativity was well earned and the hug with Hera was another terrific moment.

And then there's Ezra, who uses the pain of all he's lost to open the Holicron and provide us with so much potential for season 3. Will we see Treya? Are we going to actually learn of Revan? Simply fantastic. Anxious for more.

Then ending I saw had Ahsoka descend into a dark staircase, was that a metaphor? I devised from that that it was either a draw, or she couldn't kill him. I should watch it again. I woke up early to see the show so I might have missed something.

it's certainly what I saw. You see Vader limping from the temple and then in the Temple you see Ashoka walking into the darkness. This is probably the best episode of Rebels and it makes me excited for season 3. Maybe with the injuries and that mask we will get into Reven stuff since he has been major on both sides of the force. We do see Ezra stepping into the path of the dark side by opening the holocron as well. Maybe the rumors will be true and we shall see the Grand Admiral.

Every rebels episode gives us something interesting. This time we got helicopter lightsabers

Can't wait for season 3

BUMP.

So excited to watch this tonight.

Dave's hinting at somthing in the rebels recon, somthing "Die Hard" fans want, thrawn? As much as I want Obi-wan I don't think he's talking about him.

This exploration of the sith was really well done, I feel like Malachor might have been combined with Bane's mass weapon that killed all Sith and Jedi in the battle of Ruusan. So instead of a mass weapon that blew up the planet, it still killed mostly everyone on it, but in a more life draining fashion.

I was sad that Revan never made an appearance or voice appearance as I think he'd be the prefect Sith to nod to with that episode, maybe it was Treya, maybe it was no one we know. I really enjoyed Maul's casual reciting of the Sith code to Ezra, and really liked Kanan, the blind jedi. Very excited about the next season.

The voice sounded like Ventress to me. Possibly the same actress.

What I saw , was very cool, felt the saber copters were naff but loved that it was subverted for what happened to the third inquisitor :P

My only complaint was the episode was far too badly lit, yes I get that the characters were traipsing through the gloom, but it got to the point that sometimes I could only see lightsabers and tiny bits of face, totally missed the aftermath of the vader/tano fight because of this too. Would it have really hurt to brighten things up a bit? :(

For the die hard fans, I'm thinking two options: Thrawn or Mara Jade. Honestly, I think people want Mara Jade as Emperor's Hand more than Thrawn, but we will see.

Could also be Maul vs Vader.

It was.

It could be Asoka either fought to a draw and she is pulling a Yoda on Malachor, or she lost to Vader and her spirit is residing in the shadows.... or that wasn't Asoka at all but rather the spirit of the Sith that powered that now destroyed battlestation

If MJ appears in Rebels, then MJ is canonized.

She'd be younger than Ezra though... wouldn't she?

Same Voice Actress actually :)

Probably Thrawn but Filoni is the troll of trolls

watch any interview from last night and you will laugh at how he expertly avoids answering the question "is Ahsoka Alive?"

Which seems to be a new thing for us star wars fans

ahsoka's fate is constantly in flux... (i give it two years before an ahoska book)

as for things I'm hoping for in season 3

two characters

Mon Mothma

Young Wedge

According to aftermath he should be in the rebellion at this time since he was recruited by Fulcrum

Also can we just talk about how amazing the Vader vs Ahsoka fight was?

ooooooo I would LOVE Mara Jade to make an appearance as the one hunting the Rebel Jedi this time, she'd be just younger than Ezra too!

So we heard in Rebels Recon that...

That the new inquisition was Eighth Brother. Heh heh heh(Palpatine laugh), at least three more siblings to play with.

If MJ appears in Rebels, then MJ is canonized.

She'd be younger than Ezra though... wouldn't she?

I always thought she was Luke's age, who Ezra is a few days older than.

And I would hope she isn't hunting the Jedi, That is the Inquisitor's job. Perhaps infiltrating the Rebel cell is more up the Emperor's Hand alley.

I believe in thrawn she was two years younger than luke

Actually in my Edge of the Empire/Age of Rebellion Campaign I actually have her doing just that! Everyone is kinda ignoring her right now but I can't wait to have her sabotage their entire ship and leave them hanging for the empire to show up

Edit: I would love to see Ezra to give up his pursuit of sabine and instead be trying to flirt with this new chick, only for her to blow up the ship

BUFFY! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Season finales are SERIOUSLY bad news for Inquisitors...

So, the lightsaber helicopters are new right? Cause that's hellastupid.

Anyway, pretty goddamn epic finale. Glad neither Ahsoka nor Maul died.

I swear though Maul is like the least consistent character ever written. His characterization changes EVERY time he appears.

It could be Asoka either fought to a draw and she is pulling a Yoda on Malachor, or she lost to Vader and her spirit is residing in the shadows

I don't think either one of them won or lost. I think the temple blew up and they didn't get to finish their fight.

So guys....

Season 3 speculation?

Forecast calls for Thrawn.

In fairness his appearances are years apart so a lot can happen in that time...

Solid 6/7.

I didn't mind the lightsaber helicoptering because of that old thing about ninjas using giant kites to get into places. No seriously, look it up. Giant kites. I'd like to point out that it was also the undoing of Greedo Inquisitor, which means the writers thought it was a dumb thing to rely on, too.

Still, this was perhaps the best episode of this show yet, bar none, and the Vader scenes absolutely shone. Even Ahsoka's death (let's not kid ourselves, here) was handled well. Their scenes together were f-ing gold.

There was even a hilarious scene of Chopper being a **** by stealing Greedo's TIE fighter.

And Darth Maul.... oh you clever, creepy old sod. Done right, not overdone, all that hammy acting from his last resurrection forgotten.

This show hit most of my buttons (no space battle, didn't need one) so I give it the gold star. Good job, Rebels team. You guys found your stride.

Well, Ahsoka was originally the one who wanted to learn about the sith in order to destroy them. She's already shown she has the mindset to avenge/revenge as she is no Jedi. I'd say after the temple explosion, she makes a choice to delve deeper into the mysteries of the sith, hence that final shot of her walking into the tunnel.

Of course, the more likely situation is that Filoni hasn't decided her fate yet. it can go either way.

And a couple of tidbits for anyone who hasn't watched the recon (it was really good, you should)

One question asked if a Jedi who gives into the dark side automatically becomes a sith. No, you have to train to be sith much like how you have to train to be Jedi.

There was a delete line from maul and Ahsoka where she asks who Vader is, and he replies "what I should have been" or something like that.

Beware, possible Episode IX spoiler:

THE OWL IS SNOKE

Now, onto the episode. First a bit of nipticking:

1.

eDl2bm1yMTI=_o_inspector-gadget-original

2. Why would you incorporate a saw into a lighsaber hilt? Wouldn't a lightsaber blade do anything a saw could but much better? D:

Some observations of mine:

1. Kanan is now 100% new canon Rahm Kota. Jedi, blinded by a lightsaber, important figure in the Rebellion, his apprentice balancing between the light and the dark, even the hairstyle and clothing (incomplete armor, a belt accross the chest) matches!

Season 3 will open with Kanan having alcohol problem and close with Ezra, voiced by Sam Witwer, casting force lightning in a good cause.

2. I don't like what they did with Ahsoka. As much as I like her, her story should have ended here, ot they shouldn't confront her with Vader yet. Now we're left with "maybe she's alive, you will see in 5 seasons!" BS.

3. The confrontation in itself was great, at least the part that we've seen.

4. Maul is perfect.

5. I love Sam Witwer.

6. No homo.

7. Maul's lightsaber is made of damaged inquisitor's lightsaber, nice detail.

8. I like the idea of crossguard lightsabers being prevalent in the ancient times of Star Wars. It makes perfect sense - in the past there was a lot of hot Jedi on Sith action, so a handguard was an obvious upgrade. But the Sith were eventually defeated, and the Galaxy enjoyed a 1000-year long period of peace in which there were plenty of Jedi not expecting to frequently bump into hostile lightsaber wielders - so the design evolved and the unnecessary handguard disappeared.

I just hope that if we see another media portraiting the old Jedi-Sith wars authors will stick to this and not look for lame excuses to make it look like nothing changed in 4000 years. Go, Story Group, do your job!

9. Maul mentions something about destroying "ALL his enemies". A line from TCW: "Kenobi, the Sith pretender Dooku, and all our enemies... shall fall". Obviously Dooku is taken care of with Vader taking his place as "Sith pretender", but what about Kenobi, enjoying his retirement on the sunny beaches of Tatooine?

I wonder where they want to go with Maul.

10. I also wonder what was in Yoda's head when he sent them to Malachor, because he surely scewed them badly. Kanan lost sight, Ezra tasted a bit of the Dark Side and Ahsoka didn't make it [yeah, sure]. As a bonus they unleashed a fromer Darth with probably bad intentions. What they got in exchange? A holocron which requires Dark Side to be opened and two inquisitors killed, but as we learn there is still a lot of them left.

Thanks Yoda, you're very helpful.
