ick.
STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!
Eh. It's just a modified TIE.
and not even a heavily modified one. looks like the kind of simple mod that might be done on a small scale for specific users.
i could see them being a special unit for the imperials, or maybe an independent group that got ahold of a bunch of TIE's. until the episodes come out we really can't do more than speculate.
This really stinks for me as the wife cut down some of our dish channels so now I don't get Disney XD to watch this and I love this series. I know season one is out on DVD and will have to get it. But man I am going to miss the princess next week
Get it on iTunes. That's what I do.

yarr harr
Much as I love new TIEs, that just looks like another regular TIE that's just different enough for FFG to make an entirely new ship out of instead of giving us the EU TIEs we actually want.
Could be TIE fighters that academy students train on
I hope this is the case. That would basically make it the Canon equivalent of the Light Duty TIE.
This game needs an 8-point TIE!
Yeah, ok... someone tell me again just to dismiss this as just a KIDS show.
Because, once again, for most of the first season, it WAS.
Not everyone is willing to invest 5 hours into a show for it to stop sucking.
Maul is sadly probably the worst thing that remains in the EU.
I did not know Maul was EVER in the EU. All his appearances are canon, right? Prequels, CW...
I think the word EU should be banned: it's OVER.

That thing looks like the most amazing Star Destroyer fighter carrier ever, and I'm pissed as **** that it looks like it's a Rebel ship.
What, the Flurry? That was a rebel ship, in Truce at Bakara. I suppose it was an imperial design that was captured though. About 20 years ago you could have gotten it in micro machine form. Somehow I ended up with 4 or 5 of the things.
As an aircraft mechanic student, those TIEs remind me of an aircraft in its green condition. That's when it's fresh from a factory and only has a base coat of paint which is usually a green or a yellow. Like a cost of zinc-chromate out something.

In Legends they were bulk cruisers converted into carriers but yeah basically every appearance of that class has been a rebel or new republic ship so I don't see why anyone would complain about the rebels having one in Rebels.

Because large wedge-shaped capital ships are Imperial design aesthetic. And the fact that the first cool fighter carrier with that aesthetic is Rebel is bull****.
I would complain for the exact same reason I'd complain about the Rebels getting a TIE.
The micro machine looks crappy, but the Rebels version looks pretty good.
Never read whatever books it was in.

But, it doesn't really look Imperial, though.

It's always been a Rebel Carrier. FFS dude.

Okay. Already had enough.
For real dude. It has ALWAYS been a Rebel ship. Stop hunting for things to complain about.

So your logic is because many Imperial capital ships are wedge shaped no one else is allowed to have wedge shaped capital ship classes? You really think they should make a ship class known for being used by the rebellion, its allies, and its successor state imperial just because of its shape? That's insane. Besides they already made its Imperial counterpart from Rebellion canon in one of the first canon novels.
It's always been a Rebel Carrier. FFS dude.
And I don't give a ****.
The fact that it's been that way for 20 years or whatever doesn't mean the guy that did it 20 years ago didn't **** it up.
Whoever the first person to draw this thing was, and decided to draw it to look like a goddamn star destroyer, ****ed it up. And 20 years passing doesn't magically mean they didn't **** it up.

No, it's called ****ing art design.
You should be able to tell immediately what faction a ship belongs to by how it looks.
It's like in Star Trek, if a ship is a giant disk with some tubes attached to it, you know it's a Federation ship.
Man, I wonder what your reaction was to when the NR started using Star Destroyers...
Your complaint is so silly. Yes, it's a triangle. But, I wouldn't call it any where close to an Imperial design. And the colors only emphasizes that. If you are going to claim "art design" you may want to go beyond the most basic of shapes.

I was certainly not thrilled.
The distinctive wedge shaped starships were a symbol of Imperial fear and oppression. It never made sense to me when the New Republic started adopting that design, when they should have been doing everything in their power to distance themselves from the symbols of the Empire.
With the Clone Wars, it at least made sense, because the clone army was the stepping stone to becoming the Empire in the first place.
Yes, it's a triangle. But, I wouldn't call it any where close to an Imperial design.
Tell that to the Gozanti, which was originally NOT a triangle. But the moment they repurposed it into a Imperial ship, was turned INTO a triangle.
If you are going to claim "art design" you may want to go beyond the most basic of shapes.
But that's just it. The wedge is one shape, out of potentially MILLIONS of ****ing shapes you could make into a starship. The fact that the only thing the person who designed this could come up with was "Uh, same shape as a star destroyer, but with some garages on the bottom", is just plain lame.

That's also what I thought, once I've seen them. Green Mint Condition Ties.
As for Imperial vs Rebel Design:
I never pictured the Empire using a Wedge-Shaped design only. Actually I think thyt the main design feature for capital ships was that they used a very angular shape with hard edges all over the hull rather than the more female rounded structures the Alliance used for their ships.
The wedge shape ws just an effect of "flanderizing" and "never live it down" by legends authors and designers over all these past 30 years....!
Edited by John TenzerI also recalled that the New Republic used a lot of Star Destoryers because often they were from officers that had defected. While they still had a lot of ships, they never really had enough to solidify their dominance. Indeed Warlord Zjini and Thawn both severely tested the limited resources of the republic, to the extent that they had to combine forces with the empire to deal with the former (and even then, they hadn't killed the warlord in question.), and with smugglers and an impromptu assassination to deal with the latter. The new republic really couldn't be fussy as to what ships they could use as most of their capital ships were conversion jobs.
That's probably changed that now. But then the actual Galactic war only seemed to last a year, starting with Endor and Ending with Jakku.

Ok
1: The Old Republic was using wedge shaped vessels before the Empire so it was never an Imperial only design style in canon.
2: It doesn't look like an Imperial design other then having a wedge shape.
3: There are lots on non-wedge shaped imperial capital ship designs in Legends and several of those have now appeared in canon material.
4: This is a civil war! if there is a situation where two sides are more likely to have ships that look alike I am having trouble thinking of one.

Are any of them pre-Clone Wars?
