STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

Which thematically speaking is great.

But FFS Starkiller is just the worst character.

I do not disagree

Whiny, overpowered, the root of the rebellion, somehow a martyr, a romance that really had no basis in anything, and 180s everything immediately after waking up and picking up a blue crystal.

He has George Lucas written all over him.

Lucas was largely hands off on the project. The biggest things he had to say on it was limiting the role Leia plays and having to drive home the idea that "no guys you can't make him a proper sith"

Even though that might've made him more interesting.

Always two there are and all that

I would agree with TIE Fighter being teh awesomeness.

That's about it though.

Believe it or not i am seeing topics and now articles springing up around the web with people saying otherwise and that everything new is basically spectacular.

The only thing new i have seen that is enjoyable is ffg products, swbf 6, and maybe ep 7.

Also swtfu 1&2 were full of badass special forces that made the ge look respectable. Shadow EVOs, Imperial Navy Commandos, Terror Trooper, Sith magic users, Purge Troopers, Shadow Guard, Jump Troopers, Riot Troopers.

The Empire in TFU was one of my favorite depictions of the Empire period. It felt big , advanced , and scary . (At least until your character became a god of hellfire.)

Say what you will about it, there were some pretty cool troopers! :D

If you didnt play the wii version those Navy Commandos got a scary sniper rifle thats like the spartan laser. Also i love tbe fact that jump troopers ether use plasma repeating rifles or railguns that shoot grapefruit sized projectiles that are thermal detnators. You know for if what your shooting at survives a grapefruit sized hypersonic projectile...

Just one imperial navy commando sniper, or a terror trooper could finish off the cast of rebels or at the least give th3m a serious wake-up call.

He wasnt whiny nor was he really "over powered". All the star killers had traini g from one of the best sith ever to live, you think that counts for nothing? Hell the orignal actually died because of Vader, stabbing him through the back and throwing him into space. When Vader told Galen he brought him "here to be rebuilt", he wasnt kidding, he grew Galen in a lab just like number 8 from alien ressurection. Hence why Galen is also known as clone 1138.

Jet-troopers.

The empire does get some things right.

He was overpowered, but really so are all Jedi and Sith. Like "An army of Neo, Gandalf, Captain Americas." overpowered.

He was also pretty whiney, and while w hiney-ness is subjective , it would have been nice to have at least one other character be annoyed at him as well. Just so the annoyed players know they're not the only ones .

Well yeah, jedi and sith are using the force which is all powerful, has no limits.

I just dont see how he or anakin are considered whiney, i dont think they are, and i dont think i have been around so many whiney people that my senses are dulled to whiney things...

What scenes do you think he is whiney in?

I started skimming after you said, "TFU had an awesome story".

Anakin not whiny? Probably be harder to find scenes where he isn't whining than vice versa!

Really the prequel trilogy can be broken down into emo teenager whines and tantrums his way to being massive villain. So many missed opportunities with the writing of the Anakin to Vader" story.

Don't get me wrong, I can totally imagine a stroppy teenager with too much power going that way, imjust think it made for a poor story, poorly told.

Unless your of a certain age (and probably then in the same boat as me) you have no idea how gutted I was to wait all those long years to find out how Vader came to be and be served with that garbage.

I never got around to TFU games sadly as they do sound like fun so can't comment on Starkiler but the story line in general from the games sounds like dross to me tbh which detracts from any desire to go back and actually play them now.

Regardless of some truly derpaderp moments from the Imperials in Rebels, I think the writing in general etc is actually better than the Prequels. Certainly less omg cringe moments for me as an adult watching a kids show than as an adult watching those movies that should have been aimed squarely at my demographic.

I agree, but the issue was mostly one of timing. They rushed it way too much, if you were to watch Attack of the clones and then watch the Clone Wars, then Revenge of the Sith, the journey from Anikin to Vader is a lot smoother.

However, even then the teenage angst in Attack of the Clones was soooo painful that it's hard to get past it. He makes Luke seem downright reasonable and well behaved.

Even his name is terrible. Why didn't they just call him MurderDeather or Asskickerbeatupguy while they were at it.

"Starkiller."

Ugh.

"To be fair, and probably ninja'ed Starkiller was originally Luke Skywalkers name".

Yeah, but, I mean...Vader was whiny. If not for having James Earl Jone's massively deep voice to offset the dialog, much of what we hear Vader going on about is basically whining. I mean, a bit less than Anakin, sure, but he's also 20 years older at that point, so...

For real, imagine Hayden Christensen with the lines...

"Where are those transmissions you intercepted? WHAT have you DONE with those plans?"

"I want that ship, not excuses!"

"There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you."

"That name no longer has any meaning for me!"

...etc

Ugh.

Starkiller was never intended to be his real name, just a codename. They thought it would be cute to make a nod to the Journal of the Whills .

His name in production was supposed to be Jacob.

(because biblical references with Luke)

They could not get the name past legal though.

Now, for shiggles picture James Earl Jones saying (in full vader) "Are you an Angel" "This is pod racing" "Yippee!!"

Not going to lie. I really kind of want Vader to call Ahsoka "Snips" one time.

"I'm sorry....."

*Cuts head off*

"Snips."

man, I have a messed up mind.

I really should finish watching TCW at some point. Think I only made it to season 3 but many say the later stuff is better?

^wait, was that actually relevant to the thread? @sir o

Asohka is defiantly gonna get killed by Vader. We just don't know if it's gonna be at the end of this season or the next.

Filoni has confirmed that they are facing each other this season. I am leaning toward it only being the first fight.

Think I only made it to season 3 but many say the later stuff is better?

Yes for the most part it got better as the show went along.

The best episodes focused on the clones, especially Domino Squad. Umbara and the Order 66 chip episodes were great too.

Whining is basically the same thing as threatening. You're demanding something with unpleasant consequences for failure. The difference is, Vader threatened with magic throat crushing; Anakin threatened to be more annoying.

The primary failing of his fall in the prequels is that he's never really given a compelling reason to go to the Dark Side; certainly not one that resonates with the audience. There's never the promise of power and the corrupting influence of getting what you want through (the?) force. Even the few bits he has like "Jedi are forbidden to love" come across as hamfisted and cliche.
