Oh good, I hate it when they cancel shows who haven't hit their stride yet.

I dunno, though. Rebs... To me they really come across as terrorists rather than freedom fighters for the most part . There are exceptions, sure. B-winging a food blockade being a good one.

What we need to see is some bottom level ruthlessness, so far it's just been top level (Vader, Inq, Tarkin, Kallus).

Honestly, for a show primarily designed for children, they've pushed how scary the Empire is a few times already. I really don't think you're going to see a great example of a fascist police state out of the show. They're going for a tone of something that is exciting to fight against, not something to inspire peril and desperation.

Which is sad, because right now the Rebels are kicking puppies, and not fighting an evil empire.

That's NOT a good example to give to kids.

That's only something you appreciate as you get older, get a little more jaded as to what's actually threatening/scary, and have had a few childhood joys deconstructed. The Foot Clan from the TMNT show were hardly cutthroat silent assassins, but they were evil enough for their target demographic. The same could be said for COBRA, the Decepticons, or any number of bad guys of yesteryear. They're laughable now, but for kids, its often the most threatening thing they've (hopefully) experienced. If the Empire in the show was efficiently dragging dissenters out of their beds and gunning them down in the street, I think you'll find the villains a little too intimidating for most kids to return to week after week.

I suppose I can't argue with that.

It's not as if Transformers the movie had Decepticons quite brutally putting down Autobots (ironhide for example). Or duke gets bloodily stabbed in the heart...

True, but those are short bursts of danger; big scary moments that took a while to build to and certainly had a lasting effect. Rebels even does this; they often save it for the Sith, but they do it and will likely push things as the series goes on and their audience matures. I just don't expect the Empire to properly be depicted as something on par with the police of something like the Man in the High Castle.

EDIT: Also worth noting, neither GI Joe nor Transformers survived their trips to darker waters.

I personally am not expecting "night of the long knives" stuff being depicted on screen. I just want competent stormies making the heroes earn their wins.

Plot armour isn't going away but one of the heroes could get injured, Chopper could get taken out and need repairs and so on without it becoming unsuitable for kids. Even without that happening, just showing the heroes overcome the Imperials without it bei because of derpderp would be great.

I enjoy the show for what it is but it could be improved in for the older viewers without being too dark for the main audience in my opinion.

I hope the new inquisitor remains a threat. I really liked how she was competent and it was infighting (totally plausible for the background of the inquisitors) that allowed the heroes to win the day. A good example of the whole being defined by your enemies thing working well.

What's this about the Pirates of Dark Water?

What happened to the Joes and Transforming Giant Robots was The Movie causing a jump the shark moment, as well as the economy killing every long running kids show in 87-88, as well as the writers strike. Basically a perfect storm.

That said I really don't want this show to get too dark...at least not till the finale where all bets are off. My six your old little girl is already anticipating one of more of the heroes getting killed every time she sees a red lightsaber.

Yeah, I would rather not the show attempt to continue TCW's delve into "darkness" and "violence". Filoni's description of how the Inquisitor would've died in TCW vs how he did in the finale pretty much sums up my opinion of where TCW was going.

Though, reading some of the Season 3 news, it does sound like the crew is going to have a rough time in the season finale.

There was some bottom level ruthlessness in the first season, although it was portrayed in a manner both childish and inept (Imperial officers attempting to steal land from farmers on Lothal).

I was going to suggest The Man in the High Castle as an example of rebels fighting desperate odds against an enormous, monolithic, and truly evil empire.

And I think there should, frankly, be a darker, more mature Star Wars TV show that tackles that. I seem to recall that there was going to be a live-action TV show and that it was going to be dark and gritty.

TBH, I think a show about the rebellion in full-swing between ANH and ROTJ would be better suited for a kids show.

I was going to quote Simon Tam... but then I realized that the crew of the Ghost doesn't have a doctor, surgeon, corpsman, medic, or any other form of medically-talented or -trained individual on staff. So if somebody gets hurt, there's nobody to fix them. Hera, Sabine, Kanan, and Ezra all seem to have some talent for fixing mechanical devices, on the other hand.

One show I will be sad to see go from the Disney XD lineup is Gravity Falls. The creator of the show said that it will be ending after season 2 after they take care of Wierdmageddon. I know most here will probably not like the show but that's cool by me. I enjoy it and that's what matters in the end.

At least it won't fizzle and die weakly.

My daughter Delenn and I really like Gravity Falls and are sorry to see it ending after only two seasons as well. But at least it gets the story the creator wanted to tell completed.

At least Clone Wars hasn't lost anything, but the last two seasons hardly had any clones in them until recently.

Oh wait, is Rebels supposed to be a different show? Seems like Clone Wars generation 2 to me. With a good deal of Droids thown in of course.

I sure hope they don't go too dark with this show, or next thing you know Ezra will start chopping up some random primitive tribesmen and whine about it to Sabine, and that's just not what Star Wars is all about. It's about cheery stuff like like blowing up whole planets and burning people in their homes.

I like the reasoning behind the end of the show. It covered a single summer spent by twins with their Gruncle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Summer's over and it's time to go back to their family in California.
