STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!
Guys, can we go back to talking about Star Aladdin?
The preview for the next episode ( Wings of the Master ) is awesome. Hera is consistently one of my favorite characters in the show, and it will be nice to see an episode where we see more of her outside her role in the Ghost crew.
Guys, can we go back to talking about Star Aladdin?
No Rebels for you!

No Rebels for you, one year!
I haven't seen any conflicts in story at all SWTFU vs Rebels.
Well, for one thing, TFU establishes that the firehawk that is the symbol of the Rebel Alliance is the Marek family crest.
Rebels seems to be foreshadowing that the symbol will originate from Sabine Wrens graffiti tag.
Its not the same exact symbol.
I thought it was called a Starbird, similar to the Jedi Starbird.
Well it WAS a lot of things. But none of those things is canon anymore. The new implication is that Wren created it herself. And that the fact that she tends to leave it everywhere when they do rebellion stuff is going to lead to it eventually becoming the symbol of the Alliance.
It doesn't become the alliance symbol, the Star Killer family crest becomes the Alliance symbol. If Wrens design had become the Alliances symbol it would look more like a firebird.
In the end its still the same, the Rebel Allicance is forumed by groups of senators that were preforming rebelous actions against the Empire. They knew about the Death Star, that doesn't mean they knew it could destroy. planets, stars, universes, multiverses. There plenty of giant Imperial space stations, why would anyone at that point in time assume it has such a destructive weapon? They technically didn't let Bail go, he fled are remained in hidding un on till his death.
There many reasons WHY he wanted the Rebel Alliance to be formed. He wanted all of, or most of, the Rebel forces that were making hit and runs on IMP forces to unifiy and become more dangerious. Remember at this time the Imperial senate still dictates what goes on in the empire, or at the least, has a hand in what is done in the empire. By having the Rebel Alliance forum, he can present to the Imperial Senate legit reasons for building up the Imperial war machine. He "could" use his force powers to make the senate do as he wished BUT he is trying to maintain an Empire that through willing choice, the members will want to, or agree with, changes made in their gov infrastructure.
His two major goals was, live forever, make an Empire that will outlast him. He wanted to live forever but his 2nd primary goal didn't depend on him surviving. The people runing that Empire needed to whilingly believe they are morally correct and have emotional attachments too the Empire. Slaving everyone with his force powers would not work, because if he died his empire would desolve, everyone in it would snap out of the state they were in and just leave, most of them at least.
The Imperial Senate wont always see eye to eye with the Emperor, which is good for him, because he had it already planned to eventully phase them out. By draging their feet in the face of a growing threat, like the Rebel Alliance, the true Imperial citizens will have littile problem with having the Imperial Senate sweeped away AND they will be ok with having the Imperial war machine expanded.
By ROTJ the Empire has around 600 mil captial ships... They have a 1 mil just going by sectors named in SW, 100,000 of those are Star Destroyers, not counting Battleships and Super Star Destroyers.
Ok where did you get your numbers? 25 star destroyers per sector and 1,000 sectors is 25,000 Star Destroyers not 100,000. 1,600 additional warships per sector brings to around 1.6 million smaller warships.
The whole thing about Palpatine wanting an organized resistance as an excuse to crack down doesn't fit with what we see in TFU. First if he wanted the rebellion as an excuse to crack down he wouldn't have targeted the leadership when he did. Instead he would have waited until they had done some noticeable damage then struck. Second he would have dissolved the Senate and brought the Death Star I online with the demonstration of its power before acting to crush the rebellion's leadership.
Your sources are out of date. The Empire controls a heck of alot more than just 1,000 sectors. I litterly went through and counted every sector or system named in a movie, comic, novel, or game that is controled by the Empire, and there a heck of alot more systems and sectors than have been written up and given a name or lore.
Do you have any proof of your claim? Because I just checked Wookieepedia and they only have around 700 sectors listed. And while the Empire certainly has far more then 1,000 systems each sector is a group of systems so the Empire having more then 1,000 systems does not prove that there are more then 1,000 Imperial sectors .

Well then, what do you think Rebels is most like? I thought the Firefly analogy was pretty good;
They all live in a ship, the characters are;
The Godless/Forceless veteran: Mal/Kanan
Team mom/wife soup: Zoe/Hera
Cheery mechanic: Kaylee/Hera & Sabine
Loveable psycho: Jayne/Chopper & Zeb
Don't touch Sasha: Vera/Bo-Rifle & Lightsabers
I'm a priest, not a saint: Shepard Book/Ahsoka
Fresh meat: Simon/Ezra
And for your consideration:
Notsies: The Alliance/The Empire
Glorious sons of: The Browncoats/The Rebellion
That guy: Operatives/Inquisitors
Mormons: Stormtroopers/Purple Bellies
The "alleged" ship: Ghost/Firefly
Mah Money: Platinum/Credits
The only we don't have direct parallels for are River "I know Kung-Fu" Tam and, Inera "finger-licking-good" Serra (For family-friendly reasons.); and Wash because this is Star Wars, and anyone can pilot a ship.
(Seriously; as long as the station is manned the ship flies.)
Hah. FTL.
That sort of weapon works for, say, the LAAT/i because the emitters are actually arranged right. If the trailer shots are any indication, they're outright firing the beams off-barrel-axis, which is just silly.
For either a laser or a plasma weapon (SW "lazers") that's not a problem. Simply misaligning a couple of the final barrel magnets will get the plasma curving nicely out of the barrel. For a laser, add prism or even refract with plasma (which seems dense enough for such shenanigans... cramming real science into SW makes my head heart so I claim the MST3K mantra).

It's like they're all part of a some sort of same group of works, that follow tropes but differ through writing, world and context. What an amazing group of work this must be, I wonder if it has a name.
It's like Fiction, but with heavy elements of Science...
We should call it Thrilling Space Series.

Edited by OneKelvinI thought space firefly was ODST? :-)
Really though, Ezra is space Aladdin and that's cool, Rebels is a lot of fun.
I kinda hope it has the same progression that TCW had, where later seasons get darker and edgier without going too much so.
So... The inquisitors do not have identities, or at least personal names. I guess that signifies their total devotion to stamping out the Jedi and promoting the dark side. And it means they don't end up with unpronounceable names like most Star Wars characters.
Well, I'm sure they HAD names. They probably just don't let them use them once they become Inquisitors.
That said, it's kinda weird that they made the Season 1 Inquisitor the Grand Inquisitor. Kinda undercuts the threat when you know all the rest that show up in the series are going to be lower ranked Inquisitors.
I suppose having to fight two at once somewhat mitigates that.
I'm just glad there aren't only two. That Sith rule thing is dumb; if there are only ever two of you, that's not an order, that's a super villain duo, and being called a "lord" when the only person you're lord of is your sidekick is insanely idiotic.

Well, I think the implication there is that a Lord of the Sith is not just the Lord of other Sith, but anything they can control.
For example, Lord Sidious is the lord of the entire galaxy.

Plenty actually. For starters, the 700 sectors listed are the only sectors that have been named in the series, there a lot more than that. In a SW book, which if you want to know I will give you a reference in a pm. If you have the book I am talking about you'll also see all the named systems, and also the rough total systems in the SW galaxy. Its around 150 billion systems. Also if you count up all the total ships and the estimate for how many IMP NAVY crew members there 24,000 SD is very small, and the other craft that are not Battleships or SDD don't hold many people. Some like hold five people, system patrol craft specifically.
Also going by another book, sector forces for SD is between 24-80
It doesn't become the alliance symbol, the Star Killer family crest becomes the Alliance symbol.
The Starkiller family crest doesn't exist anymore, because Starkiller isn't canon anymore.
^I literally just searched half a dozen variations on "wrists" "slit" "cut", etc, and literally the only result was his post in this thread.
Not that I think you did this, but for the sake of argument, you COULD have said it, then edited it out later.
Going by what LFL has said about legends, they are secondary canon not non-canon.
I mean, it's pointless at this... point given he's been reported, so I guess we'll see what happens.
Don't hold your breath on hope that anything will happen, they "FGG" has known about the post for a long time.

Note that it's literally the exact opposite of what he claimed, because edgy 13/yo-esque posts are worrisome.
Yes really hilarious, I should be told not to slit my wrists over a TIE Punisher. What you said is no where near the exact opposite of what I said. You are giving people the impression that cut my wrists or any part of my body over a ******* miniature.
Ah, misunderstood context on his part and the victim card. Wonder what his tumblr URL is.

Except:
Nothing here is what it seems. You are not the plucky hero, the Alliance is not an evil empire, and this is not the grand arena.
And Inquisitors aren't Operatives.
Seriously. I'm all for Star Wars Firefly , but I don't think the crew of the Ghost is anything but the most vaguely similar to the crew of the Serenity . The Ghost is in many ways, the anti- Serenity : The crew of the Ghost are just beginning a war that we know the rebels will ultimately win (mostly) and the crew of the Serenity are plying their trade in a 'verse where the war's long done... and they lost. In fact, while pretty much everybody on the Ghost is a rebel, only two members of the Serenity fought in the war (Mal and Zoë).
And then there is the fact that the Alliance is not the Empire. The Alliance is the Republic: Bloated, inefficient, bureaucratic. The Independents are the Separatists. And the Republic never became the Empire.
The Operatives are not Inquisitors, they are not any form of Dark Sider: I should tell you, so you don't waste your time: You can't make me angry. While the Operative is pretty definitely not a Jedi, either, More likely to be akin to Agent Kallus, albeit with the same mandate and secrecy as an Operative. Further, the Operative recognizes that what he does is evil, although he is not. The Inquisitor - and all Dark Siders, for that matter - are evil, but convince themselves that they are not and that their actions are not evil and that only the weak think them evil. Where the Operative serves the ideal of the Alliance's utopia and knows that there is no place for him there, the Inquisitor serves only their own selfishness and seek to rule the Empire's dystopian ideals.
