STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Specifically: WEG RPGs and the Stele Chronicles Cite that the TIE is lousy in atmo. Lack of shield gens and atmospheric burnup are mentioned too if i recall.

And yeah, I get main characters, plot, even deflecting lightsabre. Still, you see some terribad shots.

Ahh.. The WEG rpg and a computer game booklet. I love the TIE fighter game, but both it and the WEG rpg are old outdated sources that took many liberties with the source material, mainly because there wasn't anytiing to go by, and lack of oversight by anyone. They made stuff up, much of it is ignored by every other source. The imperial army troopers for one - never seen in ANY other source but the weg rpg.

I will never hide my disdain for the old weg RPG - the quality i find as good as the wotc rpg, and that was poor, or my disdain for the kotor series of games. The old stuff was okay at the time, but hardly gospel anymore.

Yes, they are both admittedly outdated sources, I'll even admit that new canon gives the TIE Fighters in lothal more than likely improved atmo avionics just because they've tried to explain away their stockyness as local ability to land.

So anyway, assuming TIE's are fine in atmo. That is still crappy shooting and flying.

As for KOTOR. My feelings are too complicated to list here.

It looks like atmospheric burnup has been fixed by TFA, or else Finn would have...burned...up.........hmm.

The new TIEs look like they can friggin' dance in-atmo.

(Which lends credit to the "shields grease the aerodynamics" theory.)

(+1 Wilhelm Screamer.)

I hope we see some actual space combat in TFA and not just planet-side dogfights.

I hope the same.

Great episode tonight....very appropriate for Halloween.

Next week's episode looks great as well with the return of Hondo Ohnaka.

I was just looking at the upcoming XWing expansions and on the TIE Advance Prototype, is the planet behind it Lothal? If so, how does it differ from what the planet looks like on the tv show?

Edit: I felt like this was the appropriate place to ask instead of making a topic. Sorry if toes are stepped on.

This episode was sorely lacking in establishing shots of what ships the Inquisitors fly.

**** yeah! Hondo!

Me too ... can't wait to see BLACK TIEs, BLACK Shuttles and even BLACK X-Wings in BLACK space - what were they thinking???

I truly hope to see some space battles, but I expect to see a lot of Nebulae too :P

Orange stripes shooting at white hexagons is exciting!

Am I the only one who was wishing to be able to swap places with Ezra and be interrogated by Sarah Michelle Gellar in a private room on a space station?

Maybe JJ thought we've seen enough space combat in the other trilogies and wanted to shake things up a bit? No one can argue that the scenes from the trailer with the T-70s and Tie/FOs isn't going to be spectacular to watch in the film itself!

Depends who has Mr Pointy...

Naah, I'd rather switch with Kanaan and cuddle with Hera...! <3

Poor Ezra really needed an adult...

Sarah Michelle Gellar was great. Very creepy.

I hope we see some actual space combat in TFA and not just planet-side dogfights.

Dang... This just hit me... That IS an issue, isn't it?

No.

So, having watched Rebels Recon for the latest episode, it seems that the TIEs shown in rebels ARE the very same ones we see in the rest of the films. They are not a special Lothal version, the stubby wings are just a stylistic choice. All these are pointed out by Pablo Hidalgo, who also shows a model showing how "roomy" TIEs are.

So. TIEs are not cramped, they land on their wings, and the stubby wings are just a visual.

Sir?

What?

We tried interrogating the prisoner but, um..

Yes, what is it?

Well, sir; they liked it , is what I'm trying to say sir.

They liked it ?

Yes sir. One asked for the inquisitor again, by name sir.

These rebels are apparently even more debauched and vile than I was lead to believe. Cadet, I'm sorry, we are left with only one option.

No; you don't mean...

Yes, I do mean. Fetch...

This...makes me annoyed. TIES dropped from racks. The ships on the right are channeling their inner Star Trek Design Similarity. Meh. Do all Imperial craft need solar panels? That's also my only beef with the Raider model.

Curmudgeon much? I hope not. Just sayin'.

You must unlearn what you gave learned. TIEs land on their wings, stormtroopers are the standard infantry, and the empire is not sexist. Things have changed, mostly for the better in my opinion.

I hear ya, but I never saw Star Wars through political or SJW lenses like a lot of people all of a sudden do. It was just...Star Wars, in a galaxy far, far, away. Sometimes I like to escape from the humdrum of life here on Terra. ;)

Honestly...I never understood, why, in some of the EU stuff that all of a sudden the writers decided to make the Empire out to be racist xenophobes? I thought it was out of place, at best. Thrawn's character stood on his own merits (such as they were...I found him a poor replacement for Vader, but that's just my opinion)...did he need to "overcome"?

Not directed at anyone on this thread, but:

Who effing cares if Finn is "black"? So just how do one "know" that in the OT all the troopers where white? Who really effing cares if girls could or couldn't be stormtroopers in a fictitious empire? Is that really important to the overall story? I guess I just don't understand why some people worry about stuff in a fantasy story . Who really cares if TIES are shown landing on their wings? oh wait...

Anyhoo, I never even noticed 99% of the stuff I see people commenting on until folks on the internet decided to make the race and gender of stormtroopers/Imperial officers a cause de celebre ...which I never thought would happen with something as simple as Star Wars, yet every day I continue to be surprised.

Sorry if I derail this thread...not my intent. I hope no one goes bonkers. Fly casual.

Or, alternately, don't take this post personally. :)

For all we know every Stormtrooper in the OT was black, or Asian, or what have you. Or women. Or armor filled with cats.

TIEs are pretty roomy, and they do have stubby wings, I still have my Kenner TIE to prove it! They also made die cast TIEs that had the 'normal' proportions. I just thought rebels was paying homage to all that, but I guess if Palob, I mean Pablo says so, then I guess it goes. I don't want him stealing my tokens!

Also TIEs have been landing on their wings since the original Marvel Comics.

I'm just wondering real-life practicality. From what I understand the bias against women in the front-line infantry isn't because there aren't any fit women out there; it's because the mix is...distracting for both parties.
