STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Actually, I dont recall any current canon source as saying stormtroopers are the elite and there is another army infantry.

You raise a good point, indeed this link here hints that Stormtroopers are imperial army. http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/e/ea/Imperial_Army_poster.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150707124054 (didn't let me post).

So then, you have to look at Army V Navy Stormtroopers - are they different. Hope disney untangle this. Hate to be stuck with comictroopers.

The closest I can think of it being canon is seeing these guys in black uniforms on Endor:

However, it was the WEG RPG that described them as being Army soldiers, and distinct from Stormtroopers; without any further information they could equally well be technicians pressed into service as extra manpower, Navy "marines" (I think the guys in grey are Navy ship crew) or just Stormtroopers in non-combat uniforms.

I may have to admit defeat on this one, unless a clear current canon source is found to show that Stormtroopers are separate from the Imperial army and an elite force, they are just above avg. mooks/expendable plebs for the empire. Same as TIE Fighters no longer being the top 1% of pilots...

The problem is, it's kinda hinted as such by Obi-Wan, but the movies don't really go any farther with it. But then you have authors who try to make them into such, and with no word otherwise that becomes what everyone starts to think.

Until Lucas comes along and says "Yeah I never intended them to be anything special.. Sorry but the last 30+ years of EU stuff was wrong."

I will say this though, I don't think a Imperial based show would ever make it. I know there's a number of Star Wars fans who would like it, but that's only a % of the total hard core Star Wars fanbase and I don't believe there's enough of them for a commercial show like Rebels or Clone Wars to make it.

Imperial based wouldn't. It'd just be fanwank.

But a show which flips between POV's (Rebels working against empire, empire working against Rebels, crimelords getting rich and fat in the middle). could work.

See also: The Marvel cinematic universe. Which is shared by the kid-friendly Avengers, Asgardians, and Guardians of the Galaxy, the less kid-friendly Captain America (The Winter Soldier is pretty dark and Civil War should be very dark) and SHIELD/Hydra, and the mature/not at all kid-friendly Netflix series like Daredevil and the forthcoming Jessica Jones.

Didn't mention Deadpool, Please hand your nerd card in at the door.

But a show which flips between POV's...

Sure that could, or even a more adult based Star Wars show, ala Netflix's Daredevil.

I've been playing SWTOR again lately and this time I'm playing a smuggler. I'm loving the way the story deals with the underside of Star Wars, the Hutt cartels, pirates, con-men ect... Last night I got a in game email from the pirate fleet I control giving me my 10% and one from the Hutt Cartel apologizing for not giving me first dibs to make an offer on something. That was very cool :)

I'd love SW LARP to be a thing. Till Halcon i'm all dressed up with nowhere to go. (ignoring that full mobility in a TK suit is a pipe dream).

Seriously though, this is why 1313 and Imperial commando ... I mourn that they didn't finish those.

Historically games which show POV's NOT from the Rebel alliance have done well.

TIE Fighter and Republic commando being two noteworthy cases.

I would have loved a game where y ou can play as a stormtrooper squad doing stuff.

To this day I really, REALLY want a videogame where you can command Stormtrooper squads - if only for my RPG group idea.

Well to be fair... Republic Commando still had you playing as the good guys. Tie Fighter was such an awesome game that which side you played didn't matter as much. But that was the only game they made as the bad guys.

But OTOH in SWTOR the Sith Empire is as if not more popular than the Republic side is.

But if you really want to get your Imp on, I'd suggest checking out Imperial Assault.

Got imperial assault.

SWTOR Yeah, I like Agent & Bounty hunter, as well as republic trooper. (Ever since the NGE glowstickgeddon I refuse to play Jedi).

Yeah, I'm fairly certain Traviss's Imperial Commando would've had it worshiping the Empire for being anti-Jedi.

Were you there when SWG made jedi a starting class? There were hordes of them.. So many glowsticks.

Of course I was a bounty hunter. I had armour. They didn't. It was a bloodbath. Me and Nyms carbine reaped a heavy toll all the way to and through the battle of Restuss, and so many skirmishes on Mustafar.

At the time razor net was so OP...

For an Imperial-themed game/movie/show, I would suggest drawing from the WW2 army/navy media for inspiration.

The Empire is much more rank-and-file than the Rebellion, so it would make sense to base the character interaction more on actual ranked militaries and war-time scenarios.

Picture M.A.S.H. for an Imperial army base, McHale's Navy for a Corvette crew (a little more comedy than grunge for that example), or Foyle's War with an ISB agent trying to solve domestic issues with the war as a backdrop.

Were you there when SWG made jedi a starting class?

I never played SWG. Back in that era I was playing City of Heroes, and I played that from 2004 to about 2009, and never touched SWG.

For anyone who did play SWTOR but hasn't lately, tomorrow they release the 4.0 patch with the Knight of the Fallen Empire expansion. The new content is free to subscribers, and 4.0 is going to be a fairly massive change to the game.

I could re-acc my account... What does 4.0 / FE do/add?

They are doing a massive overhaul on a lot of things.

I'll PM you with some details.

I wonder if the existing character I have at 65 will be able to play in the new content or will I have to make a new one. Either way it looks to be a fun time to be had.

You will be able to continue with an existing character.

Nice. Looking forward to getting the new gear and companion.

Oh god, today's episod was way funnier than it should have been

  • The slowest chase sequence ever
  • Wolfe going nuts
  • The AT-TE going EXTRA nuts
  • That highjacking
  • The cartoony as **** getawway, just needed a fist being shaken

That was a great episode. The AT-ATs were great. And I liked the reunion between Rex and Ahsoka.

Loved that Stormtrooper at the end just running, arms flailing

as for the AT-TE VS. AT-AT or whatever the hell those were , wow. AT-TE stood NO friggin' chance holy hell. Poor thing. I mean it was an old one anyway but the AT-ATs quite literally laughed off the AT-TE's main gun.

As they keep showing those Patrol Transports, we'll probably see em in the game.

Okay who noticed the ships which I couldn't identify opposite the TIEs in the hangar when the Inquisitors shuttle arrived? It's at the 28 min mark.

Arrggg... when will Season Two be on iTunes in Canada?
