Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust puttin' it out there guys, we DO have a real thread for this stuff.
STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!
For those of you who don't have cable, have fun...
Something just occurred to me.
I actively want Jar Jar binks to appear in Rebels.
I don't mind who kills him. Would prefer Stormtrooper Commando squad sent on an assassination mission, as that'd make my headcanon (d20 game i DM'ed) canon. but. y'know. whatever.
Jar Jar isn't a bad character if you have the right writer. He actually worked pretty well as comic fodder in TCW. What I really want to see is an Empire-era Jar Jar. His speech patterns have improved thanks to bullying by Imperials, and he deeply regrets having proposed that the senate give emergency powers to Palpatine. It would be great to see him in a shack somewhere, probably a drunk or on spice, and just waiting to die for having basically given the galaxy over to the most oppressive regime in millennia.

Jar Jar in the right hands should be Vash the Stampede. I want that Jar Jar very badly. :\
The biggest problem with jar jar is his voice and dialect. My roommate and I would like to see an edit of phantom menace that replaces his (and all gungan) dialog with huttese and subtitles. Do that, and edit out maybe a minute of the most egregious slapstick moments and I think you would have a tolerable character.
And yeah, I agree that The a Clone Wars handled him very well several times. I loved the time a squad of clones sent him out to surrender to the approaching tanks because they knew he would cause such a distraction that they could spring an ambush.
hey guys. hows rebels so far? Is it cool? Is it... age10andabove-friendly? or will my mind melt like its been hit by sith lightning cast by jar jar binks?
I was kinda luke warm on it at first, but it picks up nicely about halfway through the first season, and the 2nd season trailer looks amazing. Like, original trilogy amazing.
Its a kid's show, but an intelligent one. Like Clone Wars before it, it occasionally goes to some very dark places.

Just watch it.
Honest.

I had some people over (we're all +21, mosky +35) for a game of 2v2 Epic, and put Rebels on in the background. The game stopped because Rebels was too good to not watch.

The problem with that was that 3PO and R2 are the Everyman clowns of Star Wars and they were also present. If Jar Jar hadn't had to compete with them he'd be much more accepted as a character, especially with the tragic mistake of handing the Republic over to Palpatine hanging over him.

It really does capture the fun and adventure of the OT. The first few episodes after the pilot can be a bit rough. But it just really picks up after episode 6. Don't skip episode 3, though.

I'm hooked. The Aladdin references made the first episode a little annoying but I got over it quick. Good action, decent banter, space ships, that actually shoot at each other with explosions. A Cameo by Billy D Williams, as Lando... what's not to love?
My son and I are just watching TCW for the first time and are on Season 1. I still can't get over how Jar Jar bringing spice to the Hando gets the other senator killed and also those 2 clone pilots. He's a menace! He couldn't get into his chair and the other senator had to help him, but he couldn't get back into his chair in time before the ship crashed. That killed him. Jar jar may be comic release, but he just freakin' killed a senator!
So... if I were to start watching Clone Wars with my son, should I start with Season 2? We started the show before on 1, but it was not interesting enough for him.
Watch them in chronological order -

I never said THANKS for this. It's been a big help! Already I can see how some of these episodes not played together is too disjointed. It really helps a lot.

Full episode with Billy D Williams! Cameo with James Earl Jones as Darth (MF) Vader!!
And Billy D is slated to come back. No Lando in the Sequel ok. Put him in the current prequel.

Same reaction. I groaned a lot the 1st couple of episodes, especially with some of the silliness that went on. I actually stopped watching after the 3rd one. However, with some of the reviews it was getting, I went back. Glad I did.
Edited by Jo JoAnybody read "A New Dawn?" Great book / . both describe it well. Naughty baby lol
Edited by TheMoonLordDoes the like mean that you like my comment or the book?
I kinda like the show, although there are some aspects of it that I utterly hate, so while I still watch it for star wars fix, I often tend to grind my teeth over all the wasted opportunities.
My main gripes are with the setting and battles. They picked pretty much the worst period for the emerging rebels - the Empire is at it's peak, they're brutally repressed and... They're okay. I mean... I believe that by saying "not dark enough" people meant the fact that you don't get the dire situation of our main protagonists. Sure, they have to hide, but pretty much every mission of theirs is childishly easy and is an utter success. Another thing are the stormtroopers with godawful aim - I really want to beat whoever decided to make them act like that with a rolled newspaper.
And then there are those important, known characters like Tarkin and Vader, who are known for their ruthlessness, cunning and effectiveness... But they will never actually defeat protagonists because of plot armor, so we are having another The Force Unleashed moment (I utterly, absolutely and totally loathe that piece of bantha poodoo game for the plot) where yet another random, new character(s) beats Vader.
The show shouldn't be darker per se, but it should have shown what terrible situation the rebs are in, having to face a much better equipped, prepared and trained enemies. Also goddamn slingshot! :-D I believe that adding some redshirts to the reb side would do the show good, as they could serve the dramatic purpose of clones' deaths in the Clone Wars, making it a bit more mature.
Have you seen the original trilogy? how effective were stormtroopers in general? the one time they are super effective is when Vader is behind them at the start. Or sheer numbers when they assault Hoth. They are recruited and indoctinated to be loyal not effective. I think it captures that pulpy adventure feeling very well.
If you are complaining about Stormtrooper aim you are a fan of the wrong property so just stop it.
It's a perfectly valid complaint yes in the OT they missed alot but it would have been a short film if they hadn't, but you never felt the empire wasn't a valid threat that needed fighting.
In rebels you wonder how the empire kept control they are so laughably bad.
Does the like mean that you like my comment or the book?
Both? I was short on time and didn't have time to comment. I liked the book a good deal. It's interesting to see how Kenan is at the start of that book to where he is in the show. I'm looking forward to more books.

Umm.....doesn't Tarkin deal with things efficiently?
Doesn't Tarkin destroy the comm tower to prevent any word getting out? Doesn't he actually capture Kenan? I thought these things were impressive.
