The Decimator IS the beast that people feared it would be!

By Knucklesamwich, in X-Wing

I play 2 on 2 with my brothers on Vassal. One brother had Decimator (Rear Admiral) with ruthlessness, mara jade and Isard and a Whisper Phantom w advanced cloak. I had Dash Rendar with VI and HLC but foolishly didn't use the Outrider title since I wanted droids on Biggs and Tarn. On the first attack round, Bigg died when he got hit hard by the Decimator and finished off by Whisper. And since Tarn was near Biggs, he got damaged too by ruthlessness. THen Mara jade stressed my ships out. Then the next round he killed Tarn. Never got to use the droids. Next time I'll use the Outrider title.

My teammate faired better with Wedge and 2 B-wings with HLC. He killed Howrunner easily. Made short work of the miniswarm and the Tie Defender lost its HLC from a crit.

My opponent kept crashing his Phantom into the Decimator or an asteroid so we killed him. Eventually we just kept shooting at the decimator until it just died. HLC is very effective against it. Especially from 3 ships. Then cleaned up the last academy tie that had a lucky shot and killed a B-WIng.

Surprisingly I saw vader on a 2 ship decimator plus phantom build. Seemed very counterintuitive to kill off half your ships at certain points, but I lost to it so I guess it worked?

If you can priotize anything that would put harm on a Phantom, it is worth it.

I will have to try a phantom+ Decomator list. Two 4 attack ships sounds like it could do some surprising damage, like taking out a B-wing in one round. Yeah baby! It seems like a nice marriage of ship types. Agile phantom with super tanky Decimator. It's might hit that sweet spot I like to put my opponent in of having to decide which dangerous ship to ignore.

I did a response back Fromm FFG.

Hello Charles,

In response to your rules question:

Rule Question:

When performing a free action can this trigger either Push the Limit or Experimental Interface. As an example: if I have this build on a Decimator: Captain Oicunn + Expose + Ysanne Isard + Experimental Interface (53). I meet the requirements for Ysanne Isard by having a face down damage card. If I make a movement and bump another ship I lose my action for the activation phase. At the beginning of combat Ysanne allows me to perform a free evade action. I use that action to trigger Experimental Interface during the start of combat phase and use the Expose action. Does this work?

Yes. Since Ysanne Isard allows you to perform a free evade action, that can be used to trigger the effect of Experimental Interface or Push the Limit. If she only assigned an evade token, this would not work that way.

Thanks for playing,
