That Starviper..... sooooo pretty but so strange... gonna be difficult fitting it into a Plano case
Third Faction Details
That large ship and the ship to the left look like bugs...
What are those (they are ugly as hell)?
The 'large ship' at the back doesnt look like it really merits a large base though does it. If it retails at the same price as a flacon or firespray im going to feel a bit shortchanged there.

I was never a big fan of the star viper design. Whatever, it'll still be cool on the table.

But isnt that kind of cool given Zucas/4lomm are from insectoid races (i know ones a person and ones a droid aimed at insect race markets but kenner mucked up their names when i was a kid so loads of people i know call them the wrong name)
Big universe...lots of variety is good... endless TIE varients is a bit dull.
So for you guys who know the EU ships that are coming out....
From a fluff standpoint, would these ships ever actually be on the same team, and would they ever have any beef with the Rebs/Imperials?
Sometimes, yes they would be on the same team; Fett working for Vader, Han for the Rebels, Karrde for the New Republic, etc. Most of the time these guys would stay out of it and try to profit any way they could.
However, if the Rebels, for example, would try to hone in on a crime syndicates territory, the pirates would most definitely fight them.
As i've said a few times on here Kath Scarlet being 'imperial' actually doesnt work anyway.. in one of her two main stories in the EU she raids imperial shipping and tries to capture a lambda.
Much more fitted to a neutral faction
Yeah but what about the NEW stuff? It's my understanding that these ships are from specific factions that aren't necessarily allied or involved with each other? For example, would 2 star vipers roll with a y-wing and the pig nose/spider mouth thing (sorry, I haven't wookieepedia'd the names yet)?

I speed read that as 'never fit in a piano case' and though ... omg how many ships do you need ![]()
I'm not familiar with the video game - what's the pronunciation on "Scyk", anyone know?
Thanks.

There's all kinds of reasons why story wise a band of outlaws, pirates, bounty hunters might be flying together.
So then these aren't from specific factions? I thought the Star Viper was from a specific group?

This. The simplest way to think of it for this game is that either the Rebels or the Empire is trying to take down Black Sun. Black Sun hires a bunch of bounty hunters to help fight.

The star viper is generally associated with Prince Xizor, head of the black sun. His personal ship was called the Virago, which will probably be a title for it.
Edited by Jaster MereelThe Y-wings and Z-95s are the typical sort of crap pirates tend to fly, though I'm hoping for uglies at some point
Wondering if they'll change the maneuver dials for the new faction.
If not...then the 'Most Wanted' kit actually would let you get four minis in play for them, basically. FFG has ALWAYS shipped at least two cardboard 'tiles' per miniature (with a different pilot on each side - named on one side, generic on the other), so we'd expect this kit to have two Z-95 tiles (with 4 pilots) and two Y-Wing tiles (with 4 pilots).
As long as the maneuver dial is the same...this one box should give you 6 'Scum and Villainy' ships to play - the converted Slave-1, converted HWK-290, new Y-Wing, new Z-95, and the core parts needed to convert one of your Rebel Z-95s and one of your Rebel Y-Wings (pilot card and miniature base token/tile).
Six minis, basically, with one purchase? That's a nice way to start!
(Of course, if they DO change the maneuver dial for them...that makes this impossible. Hopefully, they don't...)
Sorry for all the questions. Part of the thing that attracts me to the game is the narrative that develops during a match, and part of that narrative is adapting what I know from the movies and games into what I imagine happening.
With this nondescript pirate/criminal/bounty hunter squadron, I'm struggling with the narrative part of it. It sound like Black Sun is the center piece in this faction and most of the "flavor" will come from them? On previous threads (before the reveal), I've seen people suggest Zann Consortium might be the main influence, or even the Hutts.
Is there enough variety/commonality in this wave where you could say "I have a Black Sun themed list" or "My list is a Zann Consortium list"?
I guess the problem I have is I can't imagine there being much at stake in these battles. For example, a Reb/Imp battle could be "We need to control this asteroid field because it masks our approach to Planet X. Once we take Planet X it will allow us to use the hyperspace lane to attack Planet Y"
I see the pirate stuff being "We ambushed some tie fighters because we want their engines." To me, scummy people like Bounty Hunters and Pirates don't go toe-to-toe. They are deceitful and use guerrilla tactics, often retreating from battles, not finishing them. Rebls and Imps also don't seem like they would have much interest in the Pirate/BH faction. Maybe Bounty Hunters want a specific pilot (Han for instance) but you don't see a bunch of Bounty Hunters teaming up to engage Rebel forces in a space battle to get to him.
I don't know...I'm trying to get excited about this new stuff, and I want to understand why so many of you guys like it, but I just don't get it.
Edited by cody campbellzomg i've reached my quota of likes for today. sigh.

As the prequels made clear - the Galaxy isn't evenly split into "Rebel" and "Imperial" systems. Indeed, there are HUGE swaths of it (the entire outer rim) where the concept of centrally managing the systems is basically unrealistic.
The thing that made 'Star Wars' so interesting WAS those gray areas. The 'wretched hives of scum and villainy' that lurk in every corner. The distant systems where the Empire and Rebellion are all 'such a long way from here'.
Indeed, MOST of the Star Wars setting would fall into this category, so...we've previously been focused on a rather small portion of it. This gives us a part of the rest of it!
I read that while Xizor was alive he had exclusive rights to the starviper, which had special targeting system upgrades, but after his death the rights returned to mantelmotors, where they began producing lesser versions of it, many of wich were sold to the Zann consortium. I'm wondering if they'll do that with the Virago title, or if the generics pilots will have reduced stats, like the ORS.
wait wait.. will this new y-wing and z-95 be usable by the rebels? or are they just going to be this new faction only?
Imma be so sad if they finally put out a new y-wing with more pilots and my rebels can't use it..
To people who didn't want this, look on the bright side, atleast it isn't a Prequel reveal.....
Kinda wish there was a prequel announcement...the nerd rage from the haters would have been epic. ![]()

The models can be used for both sides for sure. Probably most of the new upgrades as well. The new pilot cards would only be third faction though I'm pretty sure.
Well, good for those of you who wanted it.
I'm not thrilled with it, and am finding myself being not excited for X-wing. Especially in the light of their other announcements. I really don't want to buy enough to field a third faction.

Absolutely.
...or "My list is a Zann Consortium list"?
Let's all hope not.

So focus, for a moment, on piracy.
One of the major requirements of a military campaign is stuff. People fly ships made of stuff, which consumes whatever stuff powers their ships, and sometimes they shoot stuff out of their stuff at other stuff. They also have to eat stuff and wear stuff, and they have to live somewhere--which requires even more stuff.
So in the Galactic Civil War there's a lot of stuff flying around in space trying to get wherever it's going, which means a lot of potential profit for anyone who can get their hands on that stuff without paying for it. And that means that a handful of well-armed pirates have a huge incentive to figure out what the shipping routes look like and jump on a lightly defended ship or convoy.
And if you think of bounty hunting in the way we do in the US, then no, they probably aren't interested. But if you think of bounty hunters in the Star Wars sense of high-profile mercenaries, it starts to make a lot more sense that they're either performing a particular military (or, technically, paramilitary) mission against the Rebellion or the Empire--or they're working for the pirates that are trying to take the Rebellion and/or Empire's stuff.
Well if you figure that he isn't "working for the empire" while in the new faction - he might not be BOUND by their rules... IE maybe he IS free to use disintegrations.
Clerk at Disintegrations 'R' Us: "Welcome to our store! How many disintegrations would you like, Mister Fett?"
Boba Fett: "I would like all of the disintegrations, please."
Boba is so polite. That's why he's a prefered customer.
Logistics win or lose war. Having pirates harassing supply lines can be very important.
I learned this lesson playing Eve online. Dirty money thrown at pirate alliances can make wonders in a war. Oh boy, they really did a good job at pissing off and demoralizing the enemy.
Edited by DreadStarWe've been using Firesprays, Y-Wings and Z-95's as Pirate raiding parties for awhile now, so a new criminal faction is no big news to our gaming group. I'm in.
