dwarves (warriors, sharpshooters, cannon, hog riders, some elite warrior)
new units:
sorcerer units for each faction
1 more elite for each faction
new terrain:
swamp
entrenchments
fortified positions
roads
fields
please give us all this and im happy
Another day, another expansion announced for a different game. This time Cosmic Encounter. An expansion has to be coming for Battlelore 2nd Edition, right?
I am totally surprised that there has been no announcement of an expansion. It's pretty obvious that for this game to be successful, it needs to build a community of players. And the best way to do that is to broaden its appeal as much as possible.
At this point, I would guess that the reason there have been no expansions or even announcements yet is that there is some business issue, perhaps a copyright or contract, or competing contract situation with Borg, or FFG and another Command and Colors publisher.
I am heartened by the fact that they recently released a tactics article on maximizing your command cards. I am also optimistic that FFG won't abandon this game because they invested so much brand capital into it already, i.e., the BattleLore title and the Runebound universe. They clearly intended this to tie together with other products.
I'll continue to hope for an expansion, but will also continue to worry that this one might already be lost to the lawyers.
I wouldn't worry too much. Some games receive a constant push from the producers, some others grow at a slower pace. Look at Wiz-War: nothing for quite a long time, and then two expansions announced in just a few months. Dice are about to be released, there is a scenario editor on-line, an FAQ project active and the game's out since what? Six months?
Additionally, building a good expansion could require a lot of time, especially since there are minis involved.
With GenCon just around the corner, maybe there's some other stuff that's going on, maybe there is not, but sooner or later we'll certainly see expansions coming.
Well i painted my miniatures to a good standard, game looks lovely, play lovely.
I wonder if BL2 and building a fantasy battle system poses problems with FF's aquisition of the Game workshop licence?
Really upset that this game has been forgotten about, all we are asking is an anouncement from FF stating that they are working on, or planning expansions.
I sold the original game because of rubbish expansions, but al least it had expansions.
I had the same guess about GW intellectual property conflicts. With GW pushing elves and orcs and dwarves along with the hobbit right now, I wouldn't be the least surprised if they've leveraged FFG away from their own development. FFG has so much product based on GW IP and GW is pretty notorious for its heavy handed ways.
Still, that's all just speculation. I know no more than anyone else and far less than some.

It's been a long time since FFG has announced new products until (relatively) shortly before release. I suspect some of that is that with some games, there was a good amount of backlash when things were delayed. Starcraft, for instance, was delayed about a year or so, if I recall, and there were a lot of unhappy people with a message of, essentially, "why bother announcing it if you aren't going to be releasing it this year."
Can't please everyone, but just because we haven't heard anything, doesn't mean there won't be anything. Several FFG titles have been silent, and then suddenly, out of the blue, NEW STUFF!
Have a look into the Scenario Builder. Deployment zone terrain tiles show yellow, green and purple tiles in addition to blue and red. Why would anyone need them if FFG does not plan to deliver more content?
Just got this game. Love it. Want more armies! Now!!!!
This game was tailor-made for expansions. The draw will be its flexibility with the use of different armies. With just two armies it feels like half a game!
Get a move on FFG!
The dice pack finally came out today, so there's that...
I wouldn't be surprised to see a new base game announced at GenCon, probably Elves vs Undead (Dwarves and Orcs always seem to get shafted by FFG).

I would hope for this, or at least a new race pack, followed by some kind of "leader unit" expansion.
So, while i picked up Battlelore Second edition and love it...i also picked up Diskwars: warhammer. uh...Diskwars plays faster...and gets the same 'tactical' feeling that Battlelore gives...i wonder if they realize they are cannibalizing themselves by supporting to VERY similar games...
Maybe they are bailing on Battlelore for awhile and pushing Diskwars...i mean they did come out around the same time and Diskwars has 2 expansion packs already...
I haven't played Warhammer Diskwars, but I have played the original. I'm not sure if the new version is drastically different, but the old Diskwars didn't feel very similar at all to me. Diskwars feels more like an open, almost miniatures-like game to me, and combat strategies are very different. Battlelore feels much more "wargame"ish, and requires a very different set of strategies.
I like both, though I haven't played Diskwars in awhile due to the army building setup time and just not having the space or time to organize my stuff lately.
I've only played Battlelore 2nd Edition and Diskwars a few times each. There are a good number of similarities, and I like both of them, but I find Battlelore to be a more compelling gameplay experience. Hopefully there will be some expansion news soon - the amount of variability in Diskwars is much higher, surely due to being far cheaper to manufature a diversity of units. But - for real - let's get some new units, Battlelore 2nd Edition!
Someone snatched some rumors about Gen-Con? Last year FFG decided to announce the core game. I hope we're getting to hear something about expansions ths year
Fingers crossed!
I'd rather them take their time and get expansions for this game right than just rush out a bunch of untested units just to get something out there. I've seen too many of this type of game fall apart because of such expansions, where power creep starts making the original stuff obsolete. (Mostly in CCG or CMG settings, but it could just as easily happen here, if they aren't careful).

It's less about "put a new expansion in my hands now" and more "could we get an announcement from an official source that there is an expansion being planned".

I don't know anything about the future of Battlelore, but I don't think we'll have many big announcement from here to GenCon. I guess it's just a matter of time. If the line had been abandoned, we wouln't have had the dice, the editor, and so on. Patience, folks

I've just always assumed GenCon is when we'll hear anything. Check back on August 18th if no announcement is made; there might be villagers gathering with pitchforks and torches.
FFG used to announce expansions and new games well ahead of time. It bit them in the ass a few times when games were delayed for whatever reason. I remember them making an announcement in 2007 that they were going to reprint Dune: the Board Game, having just acquired the rights to the old board game.
Then it spent a few years in dev limbo while they wrangled for the licensing rights to the Dune IP - an effort which tragically ended in failure. And so they reskinned it in their own IP and made REX instead. A good game, to be sure, but sadly nothing is quite the same as Dune. The theme and the mechanics fit together so perfectly. It's hard to forget those diplomatic turtles should really be scheming space nuns with mad hypno-voice powers.
Nowadays they tend to wait until they're closer to release before announcing things. Close enough to be sure it won't get delayed beyond the date they promise.
Aye, what Steve said. Being also on the other side of the fence (playtesting for FFG since August 2012), I noticed that many games I tested, were not even announced before the beta testing phase was over, unless some special circumstances happen. This allows the company all the needed time to design properly a game / expansion without losing the hype of the announcement or transforming enthusiasts in haters because "it's not possible the game is not out yet".
As said, I don't know anything about Battlelore, but the fact that we're not hearing anything from their front doesn't mean they are not doing anything for it. Clearly, also the opposite is true, but if we look at the facts:
- they resurrected the line with a second edition. This wouldn't have happened I think unless they were sure there was market for it (considering they had first edition in catalogue and Battles of Westeros having a similar system)
- they invested time and money in the Scenario Editor, that should allow people to create endless Scenarios to enjoy even further the core game
- there's quite a huge demand for expansions and minis and stuff more or less everywhere (I hardly have seen a FFG games with a fan base asking so vehemently about expansions)
there's nothing implying we won't get any. Hence, I guess waiting is the best option so far. The game's out since only a few months. I'll start being worried if by January next year no words are said about expanding it. But now? Nope, I'm still convinced there's nothing to be worried about.
