Even more Custom YT-1300's

By ZombieHedgehog, in X-Wing

Just out of curiosity, do you have a link to your Ebay store so we can check them out? How much do you charge for your work??

I too would love to see this

Ootagoota.jpg

- always been in love with it ever since I saw it in the old WEG RPG. Something about that cockpit - centered, raised above the mandibles, and I like the shape of it. It's a little more rounded than the Falcons cockpit, more like a B-wing. The whole ship just screams Hot-Rod to me.

This does look like a cool custom and it's something I would like to look in to building, I can see it would take quite a few cuts to the back as well repositioning the cockpit but I think the engines could be achieved fairly easily.

Ok.. Found it - The ship is the Oota Goota flown by Chordak, a Rodian. The ship sacrifices cargo space for engines, and is technically as fast as the Falcon (in Hyperspace anyways). It is a heavily modified Yt-1300. The ship has 2 modified Laser Cannons that are Fire-linked (in a turret) as well as a blaster cannon that is also turret mounted. It can be found on Page 84-85 of the Tramp Freighters sourcebook (Old West End Games RPG).

Another ship I quite liked from that same sourcebook is this one - The Solar Flare also from the same source book (Page 88) Two laser Cannons and a Heavy Blaster Cannon. I like the fact that the engines have hull plating over them, and the front mandibles are connected for more cargo space (150 tons compared to the Falcons 100). This ship was meant to take a beating and to dish it right back at the enemy.

Papamabo: thanks for these images, it's really good to see some different custom YT-1300s, very inspiring. I do hope to to try something different for the next project after this one is finished.

No problem. I was a huge WEG RPG fan. Unfortunately, they went belly up and lost the rights to the game. The books are difficult to find, but if you can, they are well worth it just for the source material alone. Lots of different pictures of ships, and many of them are things that could give you some inspiration. I had seen someone here do a YT with the added cargo pods. I thought that was brilliant. Little things like that make the Star Wars community better in my opinion.

I believe it was rodent mastermind who converted the falcon with the additional storage, the conversion and paint job are amazing.

I am currently scratch-building the Oota-Goota. Expect a thread soon.

Hoping to have this finished soon.

WOW

That's all I've got to say.

The Oota Goota has always been one of my favorite YT versions since I saw it in the old RPG.

FYI this site is awesome as a reference for the D6 RPG stuff as well as a ton of different ships and stuff.

All I can say is, I can't wait to have that model in my hands. ZH, that is fantastic! Just as I hoped it would turn out. You, sir, are a modeling master.

These are amazing (you should try making a YT-1930 version!!):

I'd quite like to try out some different YT models, I will be making a oota goota, which will be the largest conversion for a while.

One of my first conversions was a YT-1200, I'd quite like to make a YT-1250 for myself at some point, if you haven't seen my othe threads I have also started to scratchbuild a YT-2400, I can post pics on here if people want. This is a project I'd like to get finished in the near future.

Also from my smugglers alliance thread I gave started courageous, heavily modified Yt-1300, this is one I'd really like for my smugglers alliance.

The Yt-1930 is an interesting shape, similar to the oota goota, it would be quite a bit of work as I think the easiest way to build the ship would be to totally remove the back end and start again from scratch.

Thanks for the comments everyone!! It really helps to keep me motivated!

Looks absolutely fantastic.

Those all look absolutely amazing!

Out of curiosity, how are you able to afford so many Falcons to slice'n'dice?

I don't know about all the rest, but that last blue masterpiece was paid for by me. ZH is my modeling master and he kindly built that as a commission.

Awesome, ZH. Simply awesome. It looks great!

ZH, your work never ceases to amaze me.

I really feel like scratch-building the Ebon Hawk now!

Like border guy said, this one has been paid for. I have sold most of my custom YT's, I've really enjoyed building these miniatures but it's a good thing that I haven't kept them all, I'm sure my wife is also happy I haven't. I do plan on building a "fleet" of smugglers at some point, once I've got an idea of which models of like. I will try to convert different YT models and maybe some other ships as well, I'm sure a CR-90 or transport may appear in my smugglers alliance.

Thanks again for all of the comments everyone!

Right then, on to the next project, the Oota Goota! Well, when the miniature arrives, I will start to post photos of progress as soon as there is some.

Well the falcon miniature has finally arrived so I have managed to start work on the oota goota/White Star:

Just waiting on some plastic tube to arrive then I'll be able to start work on the engines.

Oooohh. This is going to be sooooo cool :-)

Yes... this will be a great model. :)

Looks good so far, I may have to keep an eye on this so I can see how you do those engines, I need inspiration for my Solar Flare mod. The engines are making me crazy, and I would love to light them and add that super cool element to the model.

Hey ZH - I know it's a bit late to ask now (seeing as you've already cut the ship), but for your next mod, do you think you could perhaps post a step by step on how to take one of the Falcons apart? What sort of knife do you use? Where do you cut, and how do you create the new panels? When cutting the cockpit (and hallway to the cockpit) how do you mount them to the front of the ship? Is this just off the shelf plastic, or do you have to buy it somewhere special??

Inquiring minds want to know!!

A video would be perfect, but I supposed even a step by step thread with pics would help too. I would love to tear into a Falcon or two to see what I could create, but I'm a little leary about chucking $30 out the window if I make a bad cut..

I have come to the conclusion she will look smoother with the dish removed and just a cap plate put over the circular fixture.....
