Even more Custom YT-1300's

By ZombieHedgehog, in X-Wing

I think most people have covered thus, I picked up some green stuff/two part epoxy putty from ebay years ago. I've got some in a strip, the only problem with it in a two part strip is that it can cure over time where it meets in the middle. I do believe you can pick up various brands with the two parts in separate tubes. I find it useful for filling gaps and for some finer details on miniatures.

Anyway, I've managed to make some progress on the oota goota and have started with the base coat. Managed to take some photos, I'll hopefully make some more progress once I pick up a replacement daylight bulb as mine broke this evening.

Quite an interesting look you got with the engines. Does the half round rod you've been using have rounded ends or are you sanding them round?

Have been rounding them off myself.

Well, I've finally found some time to work on the oota goota and worked on the paint.

I decided to keep the grey panels light to try to keep which I thought would look good with yellow tori tenant will be applied to the ship:

This is even better than I had hoped for. Once I have it to hand, I will be adding some detailing to it with some yellow panels, picking out some of the 'wiring' and painting the turrets.

This is superb, it really is.

I like the result. A bit of gloss on the canopies would bring them out nicely.

Yep,

I'll be glossing those

Bravo, sir.

Well, it's been a while since drive, hand chance to post photos of progress. While pieces on the x-wing have been drying and when my eyes have started to hurt on working on something so small I have been working on a couple of custom YT-1330

photo_zps1fd2932b.jpg

A pretty much "standard" YT conversion but I will be shortening the left mandible, I will be adding a small missile launcher to the end, fair enough, the ORS doesn't have access to missiles but it should look cool and you never know, Lando, Cewbacca or Han may give the falcon a day off and fly a different YT-1300.

This will be painting the standard grey but will have a purple pattern similar I to the red YT-1300 I completed not so long ago.

I have been working on another central cockpit conversion but to make this different to my other work I was asked to paint a different pattern on the top and bottom of the ship.

I've got to say that when I first started painting on the yellow I wasn't sure if I was going to like the pattern on the top but it started to grow on me more after I added the black strip the I think the white stripes really bring the pattern together.

10/10

Oh my god.

That's beautiful.

so which is THE best putty/stuff to use for filling in gaps that requires the LEAST amount of sanding and prep work?? I a, am long time 1/72 scale aircraft and space modeler... but after looking at all the cool modified YTs might make the Jump to 1/270 scale!!! lol I also have a ton a scraps/parts left over from various projects that would be great for "re-purposing"..

May I ask how you did your glorious stripes?

I'm plotting some re-paints based on Martini Racing livery and could use some pointers.

Absolutely excellent - I'm a bit late to the thread, but is the canopy on the starboard side of the oota goota a weapons bay or an observation area? And have you completely rebuilt the quad cannons?

I've just found this page from the haynes manual that might be useful for any aspiring ship modders. Looks awesome.

That's perfect for a model kit with interchangeable parts!

I can't help but notice that the falcon's configuration is not shown.

I can't help but notice that the falcon's configuration is not shown.

That's because this picture comes from a chapter dedicated to the various YT versions CEC has produced. There's a separate chapter on the Falcon even giving you tips on how to fly it! It's really a great book just like it's brother concerning the Death Star.

That manual page is awesome! Lots more inspiration.

I painted the stripes on the yt by hand, took quite a bug if time and a steady hand.

Just waiting for the putty the cure then will be able to work on the finishing touches before painting.

Hi ZombieHedgehog,

I tried to PM you about a custom commission but it said you weren't able to accept PM's. Is there an issue with your FFG community account?

Thanks,

Dan

Wow. This thread is an inspiration! I may even hack away at my YT. And then, inevitably, weep over the mini catastrophe I have wrought :D

Hi, does Zombie Hedgehog still do custom work? I'd like to order a ship from him. I'd appreciate any professional contact information.

Thanks,
