Compiled Resources List

By Nate, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

just finished a visual overhaul of the wonderful Environmental Set Pieces (which can be found here and here )

check it out here

I used this for my last campaign awhile back, and am currently writing a new one where I'd love to use it, but the links are broken now :( . Does anyone know where I can find this now? Thanks!

here it is

My copy (last updated on Jan 4 2015) is at:

Glad to see fan made campaigns, i have to ask, is there any of them primarly a force and destiny campaign?

I love all this extra material. Surprised that not much seems to be in Excel format. I came from playing Saga Edition, and almost all the supplements there were spreadsheet-based.

Or did I miss seeing a file linked somewhere?

I made an Excel character sheet because I like to be able to move things around and tweak them to suite my needs at the time. I shared it but I don't think it made it to this thread: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/185707-resources-i-made-for-my-campaign/?p=1757540

I'm sorry I missed that, Squirrelsan; I've added it now.

Hey, so I made an shop inventory generator to try and cut down the amount of time it takes to roll for specific items. It's got a bunch of neat features like different kinds of shops (legitimate, shady, or black market) and you can edit the odds that a specific kind of item will show up in each shop-type. Check it out, see if you like it, and if you have any problems, suggestions, or even ideas for a totally different program, email me at [email protected]. I put 50+ hours over the last week trying to get this thing perfect. Enjoy, and happy RPing!

(p.s. If there's any items missing, just send me an list of what kind. And if anybody out there cares enough to put a description for each gear item, I'd be happy to include it in the program to save even more time flipping through books, so you can spend more time actually playing.)

Seems pretty nice! I got 2 suggestions for improvement:

- A way to toggle sources (regular expressions might be your friend here since you already got sources indicated)

- Include a list of sources and their abbrivations. (I might have been away from this game for too long, but it took me a while to figure out that E CRB is EotE Core Rulebook. )

What do you mean by "toggle sources?" Like toggle whether or not it's listed?

And yeah, I guess it's not obvious which book the abbreviations refer to. I'll go through and fix that up today or tomorrow (depending on my workload with school).

Nice app :) Is there a possibility to give us this program as a jar file :D ? that would be awesome :)

Sorry. Should have been more clear. I meant that it would be really nice if I for example could choose that my shop should only consist of items from the core rulebooks. A list of the sources, where each source can be toggled off or on, such that the shopping list is only generated from sources that are toggled on. This could e.g. be an option window like the kind of shop or just a .txt which is read by the program.

The only way I can do that now (as far as I can tell) is by editing the source data files.

Yeah, that's a really good idea. I'm kind of slammed with school right now, but I should be able to add that over the weekend.

At present, I have no intention to release a .jar file. I'm being kinda cage-y with my source file until I decide if I'm gonna make a paid app or not.

Unfortunately, this means that I can’t run this program on my Mac.

If it was a .jar file, then I’d have some hope that I might be able to get it to run under an appropriate JRE.

But I would love to see some overlap and integration between this program and OggDude’s Character Generator. ;)

Ooooh! That would be fancy!

Oh, well I could just make a Mac executable. Email me, and I will let you know personally when it's ready. First I need to find out how.

That is great :)

Concerning the integration with OggDudes Editor:

It looks like you use a generated csv for your input. The Char Editor has a folder called "Data" which contains weapons.xml, armor.xml and so on. You can easily parse them in the same format as your csv :)

Could you provide a link to this editor, please? I'm not sure what anyone means by "integration." If it's a character creator, what integration are you looking for? Also, I feel like I should contact OggDude before I start messing with their program.

Also, I've been reading up on how to make osx executables, and it turns out it's a nightmare to do from Windows if you're at my level of experience. I'll have access to a mac over the weekend, though. So I'll get one going, just be aware that updates are gonna be up to a week behind for Mac users as opposed to Windows. And if you're on Linux, sorry, I have no idea how that OS works or how I would make programs for it.

Ok integration is the wrong word for what i meant :D OggDude stores his data in a "Data" folder for his program. This XML Files can be used in your program as input ;) so you don't have to maintain your data separately ;) Everyone could use these files if they also use his char editor :)

Puh :D i didn't created a mac executable either. I don't know what your plans are for this little program, but the easiest way is: Either keep it windows only (like OggDudes, cause everyone who is using this editor uses already windows ;) ) or you deploy a multi-platform executable like a .jar file or certain scripts (python etc.)

In my opinion: This project is too small to build a whole application with a GUI around it. A simple script will work fine. But this is only my opinion, cause i am an IT guy who uses his pc too often ^^

Check out concepts like Continuous Integration and Jenkins, and then have a look at the appropriate section of https://github.com/ripienaar/free-for-dev

I’m sure that there are plenty of freely available tools that can be used in this space.

A well planned XML file structure for all the data would be almost trivial to parse for whatever use. Maybe that should be developed as a group?

Perhaps also, for the best, to move the discussion to its own topic. This one has been rather derailed.

Really can't be a paid app... you would likely get a cease and desist from FFG. As they can't sell star wars related software and would be required by their license to stop others from doing so. Oggdude can't charge for his either. :)

Not to mention we're having this discussion in a thread about community-created resources provided for free by a large number of highly-talented people who have spent a considerable amount of their own time to create. Seems to me that charging for a simple utility like this violates the spirit of what we're trying to create here. Far be it for me to tell anyone how to be....

What I did was make my software freeware, but have a "Donate" button at the top. If you like the software and want to help me continue in my development efforts, you can donate to my PayPal account. This isn't paying for the software, since the software is free. It's just helping me out so I can continue to support the software.

At first, I didn't even have the Donate button. Believe it or not, people were actually requesting that I add it just so they could donate. This is a very generous and supportive community, and if you produce stuff they like, they'll send some of their hard-earned money your way as a show of support. I've even had entire gaming groups donate multiple times. And yes, I'll say it again: you guys are phenomenal :)

Just to show you the level of interest that our community has, the manual ZIP file for my character generator has been downloaded over 111,000 times so far, some of which will obviously be repeated downloads, with almost 9,000 downloads of the web install, very few of which will be repeats. This is since August of 2013 when I first released the project. And if anyone is interested:
