I'm hoping for more Legends stuff now.
X-Wing moving to Atomic Mass Games

Even had one boss crow on about how he had brought me a cardboard box to clean out my desk, as if that was some sort of olive branch.
Good news is, in the long run getting axed is usually a favor. Best of luck to Mr. Davy in his future pursuits.
Two of the three times I've been let go, it was abrupt and unceremonious. (The other time, well, let's just say that was a rather unique time in my life that has led to my having a fun story to tell, but if it's all the same, I'd rather not repeat the experience...) For all three times, I'm just as happy to not still be working there anymore.
Best of luck to all of those affected. Hopefully you can move on to better employers.
I can understand the hesitation and it sucks that some developers lost their job over this. I have seen the writing on the wall about this since Asmodee basically split the RPG division off from FFG. It just seemed like FFG as a company was purchased and now being carved up like some turkey at Christmas.
I definitely understand people will be hesitant to continue. Not I. The proof will be in the pudding...or the turkey. The analogy falls apart there. If Atomic mess it up, they mess it up. However there is nothing saying they will mess it up and may come to the table with better and new ideas.
I don't think their intention was to buy the golden goose only to go out back and promptly shoot it. Especially since it has been said that there is an 'aggressive release schedule' through to 2023. This kind of move doesn't just happen overnight, it's something that is planned and accounted for. I don't see release being impacted too much. Maybe we won't hear any news until Feb or March which is disappointing.
I reserve hesitation until at least we've received two waves under Atomic Games.

There it is. This does it for me.
Alex Davy has been pure heart and passion for this game since he joined in First Edition Wave 4.
To know that he has been just kicked out and the game and his job given to someone else just because some suit needed to justify their paycheck doing some arbitrary reorganization, not attending to Davy's actual merits, leads me to act in the same way.
I abruptly and unceremoniously terminate my relationship with Asmodee.
Looking forward to seeing what Davy's and the other team members' future projects are, though.
Azrapse. Over and out.
Edited by AzrapseI love this game but I don't know if I want to throw more money in a company that treats its talented employees like this.
I have enough ships but I was buying more partly to support the game. Not Atomic's fault, but the game is good as It is now and for me is almost completed.
There is not OP now. The question is not, why am I going to stop buying? Is, why am I going to keep buying?

Davy hasn’t been with X-Wing for a while and it’s not like there isn’t plenty of room for improvement in how the game is managed.
AMG will have to work on four games now, not one. The overall change of organization appears almost reasonable, and AMG are probably compentent in their field. But handling this without getting the former studio staff involved sounds like a challenge ...
So they started the move with firing the designer whose game had the greatest success recently. That's ... slightly weird.
ATM press release:

Given that AMG will still need LFL/Disney approval just like FFG did, I find this unlikely at best.

My xwing group talked a fair bit about this. We just don’t see OP coming back in the way we once knew it, between the lack of OP staffing and the pandemic and all the other factors (AMG doesn’t really have an OP program for mcp either).
The future for xwing is community OP. Unofficial alt arts and tokens, formats we devise, etc. Look at the success Galaxies had.
Maybe AMG gets good fast and knocks it out of the park, but we have an OP running alive and well right now in our community.
I buy ships because I enjoy the game and ships that come out. Looking forward to the Eta2 and nimbus. But, I’d be ok with a complete game too so if it gets derailed I won’t lose sleep.
Let us be honest, the Organised Play function was likely going to need to be rebuilt anyway after the Covid-19 disruption. We're likely not going to see any events until the middle of next year at the most optimistic (assuming that the vaccine candidates currently being spoken about in the news are as effective as promised, and the rollout/take up is smooth and swift). That is effectively a year and a half (or a bit less, depending on when the lockdown boot came down) where OP has been out of action, with no new kits made and no events in the pipeline. I feel cruel saying it, but why would Asmodee/FFG/Atomic keep staff on hand who can't do the jobs they were hired to do for that long?

As a mostly OT era player the game has felt complete to me for awhile. Now with the release of the Tie-Brute there is nothing else I absolutely need to see in terms of ship releases. Sure a Rogue Squadron pack and Campaign pack would be great to see but I have plenty of 1.0 models and some 2.0 as well. So if official X-wing releases end all of a sudden I have plenty to keep me playing for years to come.
I also feel that the community will step up to the plate if AMG drops the ball. Though I have to wonder how long that will last with even a group like GSP holding community events. Eventually people get drawn to the new and shiny things out there.

Sadly, that's already happened by the looks of it. Alex Watkins - who was FFG's Head of Organised Play - left the role in October from the looks of things.
Make no bones about it, this is a big, big ask for Atomic Mass Games to take over the development and running of three big games like X-Wing, Armada and Legion. If they currently have zero Organised Play elements for their current game, how on Earth can they provide anywhere near the worldwide community support for the Star Wars games that FFG offered?
Organised Play might have been on the backburner due to the pandemic, but it was a huge reason why the community for these games grew to the level it did. Without it...
Does anyone know what "Licensing Manager" does? Simone Elliot is Head of Studio at AMG, and I just noticed she is listed as the Licensing Manager on recent X-wing expansions (I looked back as far as the Resistance Transport). I don't think that really has anything to do with game design, but at least there is some continuity on managing the property.

Leading the negotiations with Lucasfilm? He (she) likely set up the mysterious five-year plan of SW-related FFG releases that was announced in March. Now (s)he has to manage its realization.
Edited by CanopusSimone could be male or female - anyone knows?

I suspect that the Licensing Manager is responsible for dealing with the licensor of the IPs. She likely sends designs out for approval to the licensor and receives the approvals or changes back and passes those to the appropriate personnel in the studio.

Now, the optimist in me wants to say that Asmodee are going be assembling a new OP/events 'company' within itself, which both Atomic & FFG will utilise to handle the logistics & community support. All Atomic has to do is manage the production of kits/prize support. The cynical side of me says that they're going to wing it and see what happens, not wanting to invest in OP when they simply don't know when or how they'll be able to start events up again.
That press brief from AMG was utter drivel. On the subject of are changes coming, And I quote:
Will: One of Atomic Mass’ core philosophies is that there is no finish line. We see ourselves on a lifelong journey of learning and improvement. That’s a pretentious way of saying yes (laughs).
GFG, JFC, WHEN YOU OPENLY ADMIT IN YOUR OWN WORDS ON RECORD THAT YOU ARE BEING PRETENTIOUS, WHY ON THE SACRED JEDI TEXTS SHOULD I BELIEVE YOU ARE ANYTHING BUT SOME EGOTISTICAL BUM TWIT!?
'scuse me there, bit of throat tickle that was.
More rationally, basically this quote says "we think we can do better to design a game that was once a contender against 40k with out ever having actually worked on it."
Well good luck buttercups (your gonna need it) I've seen folk talk good game like that before. I also saw them get KTFO in the ring a few minutes later. Like, I was gonna give AMG good odds going into this, but after that comment? Lol ef off AMG, go home, your drunk.
as someone who's completely new to the world of miniature games.....
this thread is all kinds of weird....

Welcome! Yeah the miniature crowd is unique, buckle up it's a crazy ride (but a very rewarding one).
I choose to be optimistic but it is sad to hear about people being let go. Hopefully atomic mass games is up it.
The Warmahordes people always did like the smell of their own farts.

Welcome to corporate America. We are all just chattel that can be bought and tossed out in the trash. It's about to get far worse.

FFG long produced Legends ships and has even worked with Lucasfilm to design entirely new ships that have gone to show up in other media. I doubt that if they wished to that they would be prevented from releasing more.
A lot of x-wing 2.0 for the 3 original factions has been reprints so it's hard to judge if there has actually been a policy change regarding Legends ships.
Legion just got a new RRG. Maybe X-Wing will have a final push until the end of 2020 with FFG.

Yeah. That was especially cringe worthy.
