...and even if it was, a ship that' wider than it is long might make an interesting new design for huge ship play; can you imagine moving a ship where the bases were side by side instead of one in front/ one at back??

There are not that many corvettes size ships left in SW universe that are exciting to look at. FFG needs to get in discussion with the folks at Lucas and create a new concept like they did with the Raider. The Separatist could use one!

Yeah, the J-Type Diplomatic Barge is supposed to have a complement of four N1's as escorts, which would be externally docked. A good chance for another Huge ship with docking clamps maybe?
Docking Clamps are a lot of fun on the Gozanti, and externally docked ships look great on the table as well. I'd be all for more ships with Clamps *cough* Nebulon *cough* B *cough* Frigate...

To be fair, the arrival of the Super Star Destroyer in Armada has kind of opened the door for larger size ships in X-Wing as well. If the demand is there for more ships - and bigger ships - then there's also the means to provide them.
Personally, I still want to see the Nebulon B at the CR-90/Raider's sliding scale.
