Tales from the Fringe Anthology IC

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

The security keep up their fire on the Trandoshan, hitting him a couple times and forcing him to drop his blaster. Bestin, limping, dives behind a fancy chair for cover. He cracks his head on the wooden frame and sits there, stunned, seemingly unable to act.

Raxle raises his blaster and fires at the Bounty Hunter. The bad news is the shot misses it's target by hitting the table. The good news is the shot defects from the table and knocks the Bounty Hunter's gun out of hos hand. Wow, that was a lucky shot.

The bounty hunter quickly scoops up his carbine and returns fire, hitting Raxle and causing him to move quickly to try and avoid fire, making it harder for him to return fire.

The client runs through the door and shuts it behind himself.

RO-0K aims and fires again at the Bounty Hunter, grazing his arm. Surrender while you can, cretin! Cursed software updates! Really need to update them...

The security fires at Raxle, nicking him, and the bounty hunter yells, "Oh for kriff's sake!"

Raxle continues to aim and fires the bounty hunter. This is for you R1. With the pain from being shoot by the security guard. Raxle fights through it and shoots the bounty hunter center mass. He drops down to the floor. I think I got him . Now where is the security guard.

Behind the chair, Bestin pulls a stimpack out from his belt and injects it by one of the wounds, sighing as the bacta and painkillers start their work.

RO-0K watched with as much satisfaction as a droid could as the Bounty Hunter was neutralized, and turned it's attention to the newer annoyance of the security personnel. A quick assessment of threats and calculated risk, RO-0K determined that a gentler approach could be taken with the Security company. It switched it's blaster to stun and raked the personnel with repeated stun shots. Dropping both behind their improvised cover. Can we have our civilized discussion now?! The droid called out irritably.

After a moment of silence, Aduro Denive yells from further inside the penthouse. "You won't get away with this! More security is already on its way up."

Raxle is pretty sure that he locked that door pretty well, so they'll likely be undisturbed for a while.

Perhaps if you answer our questions, we would have left already... RO-0K called back. Your employees are on recordings attacking us as we left, we require answers and compensation for our troubles and damage to our good name!

He cautiously walks back into the room, "My employees had no instructions to attack you, so either they had a sudden bout of insanity or you are lying and actually did attack them. Either way, I cannot be held responsible for their actions."

RO-0K pulls out the holorecording and plays it. Are you not responsible for those you employ? RO-0K asked. What do you suggest we do about them?

He watches the holorecording in disbelief, then gives RO-0K a confused look, "Do about them? You killed them! What do you expect me to do about them? Fire them?"

He sighs, rubbing his temples, "What motive would I have for eliminating you? You completed the job, and didn't know anything. I considered our business satisfactorily concluded upon delivery of the asset. Either this holorecording is faked, or somebody got to my security personnel. And if I wanted you eliminated, do you think I'd have my security personnel attempt it in a turbolift in my building ?! There's a bounty hunter right there, perhaps he has something to do with it, hmmm ? Or did you hire him?"

RO-0K's head swiveled towards the Bounty Hunter. Yes... the Bounty Hunter... RO-0K looked back to the client. We do have your Security Chief, perhaps we can extract our answers from them... RO-0K tilted it's head quizzically, Would you be interested in any information we might extract?

"Yes I would , but shouldn't you turn my security chief over to the police?"

Indeed... RO-0K seemed to consider it. They can have what's left after I have compensation. The droid motioned to his colleagues. We are taking the Hunter with us... Bestin, please search and secure him.. Raxel, please slice any data devices..

RO-0K turned back to the client. As long as you have been truthful, I am satisfied our business in respect to our previous contract is now concluded. In future, please provide such information more promptly , so My colleagues and I won't waste our time like this again... We will send you a notification when our investigation concludes and our price for any data that becomes available. Good day, sir.

Bestin moans, but stands up and shuffles over to the bounty hunter. The Trandoshan injects him with a stimpack to stabilize his condition, then pats him down, pulling off a pistol-sized micro-rocket launcher, a vibroknife, and an encrypted datapad. He then takes off the bounty hunter's jetpack and hoists him up onto his shoulders. "He isssn't hurt that badly. Jussst unconssciousss..."

Raxle provides some hasty repairs to R1, reactivating it.

The security finally arrives, and Aduro Denive explains the situation to them. After a little while longer, RO-0K, Raxle, Bestin, and R1 are loaded back into their truck with an unconscious bounty hunter in the back Bestin and R1 keep a careful eye on him, the astromech waving its new blaster menacingly and beeping, clearly relishing its surprising success in its new role.

The group piled into the speeder and RO-0K took a meandering path back to the ship, frequently backtracking to throw off any pursuit. They landed a few blocks away from Rook and made the rest of the way on foot. Once on the ship, Bestin tied the Bounty Hunter against the cargo bay bulkhead. Bestin, please keep an eye on our new guest... the droid asked, and approached the Security chief. Who really paid you to attack us?

The security guard looks at RO-0K askance, "What will you do if I tell you? Do I get to go?"

I simply want to know why.. and by whom. The droid shifted it's shoulders in an approximation of a shrug. After that, our business is concluded....

He points to the bounty hunter, "He payed us to take you out. Told us he'd 'take care of the fallout' after we killed you."

Me? RO-0K was taken back by the statement. What anyone want with my termination?

"How should I know?"

Ro-0K's vocabulator buzzed in frustration, and headed to the cargobay.. Bestin, strip the Hunter of his clothing.. I don't want any hidden items. Then let's wake him and get some answers.

Raxle states to the others. I see his datapad has been wipe recently. But the information about the current job has not been erased. There is a kill bounty on RO0k for unspecified amount. But the rest of us don't matter. There are records and notes on his job including a expense report.

The expense report includes payments made to a unnamed slicer and the security chief dor 30k.

I also found a encrypted transmission. I will try to recover it. Raxle gets to work on the transmission.
