The skill in this case is Perception, which uses the characteristic Cunning. You compare the characters who are attempting the group check (in this case, Vanya and Tapper) and see which one has the best Cunning stat. You then compare the two to see which one has the best Perception stat. You then combine the best of those to get your dice pool. If one of the two is the same, or one character has the best in both, you add a Boost die instead.
