I don't have a log, but I do have pictures of some critical junctures if you want me to post those.

I added a link to vlog to my post.

Hi JJ, I would not say that your wins are boring but ...

I just read that you did not win the Minnesota regional. Did you play against the winning list (I think a Liberty Raddus drop + rogues) and can you comment about how the match went ?'

Are there match-ups that you consider unfavorable with your well-seasoned almost-always-winning list ?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you are saying with the first line there...

To answer your question, no I did not play against Yik in the FFG regional (believe it or not I don't think I've played a single tournament game against a raddus fleet).

Secondly, I was running a two ship imperial fleet at the FFG regional. I'll put the fleet below if anyone cares to see it. I think it went fairly well for not testing the fleet at all, having not played imperials in a while, and hardly ever flying a two ship fleet.

I very rarely play the same fleet for more than one tournament, I got bored flying the same thing over and over. The couple exceptions have been I used last years Vassal world cup at Worlds last year, and I am using my Gen Con fleet from this year in this tournament. Mostly that is due to not having enough time to test out new list ideas.

It means that i am more interested in reading about your losses than your wins. Not because I delight myself in seeing the best ones fail, but because I am assuming you win most games and that your losses are probably hard-fought battles at the highest level, so, very worth reading/watching.

My first line is disguised praise.

How did you feel about Gar Saxon ?

Cninj! Get out of hear with your so called "logic" and "topics". This is the Internet. We talk about whatever we want to talk about and no one can say anything about it at all.

Back on topic - I've been slamma mamma jamma'd since we wrapped our game but I want to say a huge thank you to @PT106 for being an excellent opponent. I had a plan from the start to shoot for the 17pt win since I realized the Proj Experts Glad and my quasar were the exact same points and I knew I could nuke Ciena quick and efficiently. That gave me enough margin to even lose a defender and still get the win. I wasn't shooting for a landslide like I normally would because I didn't want to risk it. PT is an amazing player who did exactly what he needed to do to get the job done, but it's a tall order to kill an ISD in one turn.

He even caught me off guard because after the Pryce turn my ISD was SO FAR away I figured there was no chance with second player and such a huge head start PT could catch up to the ISD with demo. He did, however, and held the game in his dice when he took his 2 red with a third from confire at the rear of my ISD, needing 4 damage to kill me with my contain being the only token I had left. If he snagged a double, I would have been out of the tournament and he would be moving on. This teaches me a valuable lesson - never be overconfident. I could have locked all repairs those last turns and salted away a guaranteed win, instead I mindlessly auto locked squadrons when I didn't need them and then almost got caught.

All the props to PT in the world. Thanks for the great game, and best of luck in future tournaments (except when you play me :P)

Well played Broba! Smart game plan there, I'll be sure to check out the log for that game. Commiserations to @PT106 on the loss - I guess winning two major Vassal tournaments back-to-back wasn't to be!

If @MandalorianMoose wins his game vs @mhd this is going to setup a very tantalising Thrawn v Thrawn head-to-head and we'll see whether the 2-ship ISD or 3-ship Interdictor variant wins!

@JJs Juggernaut fault right here.

Fanfan, I'm pretty sure this now means that you have to submit a VASSAL WORLD CUP RESULT post.

We can do it like "Choose Your Own Adventure".

Round 1, you're placed against JJ in POD play.

What do you do?

Minimize points lost, maximize wins against my other 2 opponents, and enjoy the fact that I won't see him again until the finals?

BiggsIRL you are giving hints to Fanfan!

I see. Well my one loss at the FFG regional was one were I maneuvered poorly and got myself gunnery teamed to death. That was more due to lack of practice flying a two ship fleet, and that was complimented by the fact I was second player. I was 3 damage away from a mutual tabling though, several bad rolls took that chance away.

Gar Saxon was worthless. I never saw a squadron with relay or intel to trigger his ability, and he missed most of his rolls. Raid was never worth in except in one case were I raided repair which meant a dial (normally repairing 2 shields on a large ship) had to be used to clear the raid (which cost me one damage to trigger). I would have much rather had Bossk, or even a generic Firespray.

Wish you brought a bigger gun. Sigh. Then look forward to the next tournament 😀

@Aresius vs myself ends in a 314-284 victory for Aresius. I went first and chose AG.

Raddus dropped Profundity at the top of round 2 and my HIE cr90 proceeded to whiff on 6 blue and no crit. His Liberty AG my MC75 and pulled Coolant Discharge and the one that drops your engineering which did not allow my MC75 to double arc. That crit won him the game I think as it took 3 rounds of fire to bring down the Liberty.

Very well played game and good luck next round!

Raver got through the POD slightly ahead of @Tokra having won a 6:5 MOV 0 game against me 😃

@mhd @MandalorianMoose - when is your game?

Nevermind - I found an old Mhd post saying Monday night.

It's just a low scoring night.

A quick battle report between myself and @MandalorianMoose . I won 6-5 in a 114 to 78 in a squadron battle that could have gone either way but the dice fell heavily in my favor and so did the game.

Unfortunately for the moose when I put this list together I had just played him (and lost heavily) against his very successful combination here. So my list was specifically crafted to engage lists EXACTLY like this one. It was luck that I managed to come up against him in the elimination round, luck that I rolled well, and luck that he didn't pick second player.

I was really curious how this one was going to play out. I like the non-ISD approaches on both sides. Wish I could have been around to watch how it all played out.

MHD has better patience than me is how it played out :D

Original plan was to wait until 5/6 and then just hope that my alpha kills slightly more points than his alpha, but I got bored hahaha.

Hindsight I definitely should have taken second, but I was wary to do so having submitted the wrong objectives (SP instead of SR). I’m interested as to what he would have picked from SA/CO/SR
