Rebels already have a Sniper and a Bomb/Mine layer though.
Loved Rogue 1 and painted a fair few of my troopers to look Rogue 1(ish)...always good to see more figures but at this early stage in Legions life...cant help but think the Troops from Scariff are already pretty much represented by Rebel Troopers and Commandos/snipers surely?

The basic Rebels are designed after the Assault class from Battlefront

The Rogue 1 Rebels are a mix of everything, including Rebels in Cold Weather Gear. On the only Tropical Island planet that we know of.

Surely both the rebel trooper minis and the assault class are designed after the rebels on Endor in RotJ?
I'd have expected the Scarif/Rogue One troops to go mainly with this type of gear, though they as you say have Fleet trooper helmets, Hoth trooper gear and Endor trooper gear in a mix:

This is cool! Can't wait what they got for Empire alongside these. Loved Rogue One and i have to admit that i really, really HATE mostly everything Clone Wars -related (only very few cool things in there).
So everything non-CW related units are highly welcomed by me, hope they put out lot of GCW expansions (WE WANT EWOKS) before they start pushing the CW content to Legion.

The Endor Commandos are the only Rebel troopers to wear ponchos.
Other than that, they're just the Generic Rebel trooper in Green.

Why?
I can't wait for Rogue One to join the game! I have my doubts that this is entirely real. Since Jyn sure doesn't seem like a commander. Saw would make more sense. That said, there are several good options for operatives for Rebels from the movie, so they might be "forced" to make Jyn a commander to even out the numbers.
I'm pretty sure Krennic will be a commander through and through. We see him directly commanding troops multiple times throughout the movie. I'm interested in Death Troopers for sure.
If this is legit, expect FFG/Asmodee to drop the article today. I've noticed they seem to respond to early "spoils" by dropping their respective article lately.

I don't see any reason to doubt that FFG has found a design niche for them, but yeah, I am curious what that will be.

Yeah, Operative Jyn seemed more obvious, but... maybe Commander Jyn makes sense, from a faction diversity standpoint? Having a fourth alternative for Rebel Commanders is interesting. Even as Imperials are only just getting up to 3, those 3 are all radically different, which ironically means they have more diversity despite fewer options.
Svelok, I do wonder if they are hoping 2 operatives and 2 commanders will let you put together some of the iconic teams such as Han, Leia, Chewie, Lando, by making two of them commanders and two of them operatives. Maybe make C3PO and R2 as unit attachments or some such to be able to get them all on the table together.
I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same for the Rogue One Characters so you can have most of the team on the table at the same time.

1) The original source for the images is apparently the FFG Retailer Pre-Order Site.
2) Saw was considered a terrorist by both sides, plus didn't appear to have that much in the way of mobility during his screen time in the movie. He doesn't seem suited to being a Commander, at least currently anyway.

I think you’re projecting your opinion a little strongly on what “makes more sense.” Jyn is the more recognizable of the two, and was actually working for the Alliance (if for only a brief time). Saw never really did.
Pretty sure this is a legitimate leak.
In that case, hoping for more Rogue One goodies:
- Krennic
- Deathtroopers
- Occupier tank
(what would a Rebel heavy look like?)

Exactly right, when selling Star Wars product, they'll most likely push out whats most recognizable first and then start to get more niche and specific as time goes on... So with Jyn having the most screen time in R1 and 'technically' leading the initial assault on Scarif. So (if this leak is real) I can see why they would choose her.
Hopefully we see something like a dual operative pack with Cassian and K2SO in it. I feel like those two could be a start of cheaper operatives, they're very proficient in the movie but compared to Boba or Chewbacca they aren't nearly as powerful which would hopefully mean a reduced point cost.
Nice. I'm not adding a thing to this conversation but I am looking forward to this... Also assuming this is real.
I was expecting to see "Jyn and the gang" as operatives, not commanders. That's all I was trying to say.

Given this is Rogue One inspired, I would say Pao:

It is interesting that the write up says there are 6 minis in the box, which seems to suggest this will be the first Special Forces that can be run as a full squad of 6 minis (where Commandos/Scouts are either 2 or 4-5, while Wookiees/Imperial Guard will be 3-4).

Rebels could be due a hand held flamethrower. Short ranged heavy weapons would make sense if they're behind enemy lines and up close.
6 models so 4 base squad size and 2 heavy weapons. Kind of bummed we don't get another 7 models to split into strike teams based on this preliminary info.
The basic core box rebs can be painted as either Scariff or Endor looking as they only wear a helmet that was worn by both, and other such details that work equally well for both.
My HOPE is that the "pathfinders" are corps and only use the "Hoth" hats and other bits of gear that were worn on both Hoth and Scar riff, so that they will easily paint as either style of rebel.
Then all bases shall be covered, such as it is. Or will be when we get a rebel commander in a warm looking coat.
They don't really make THE soldiers from this movie scene or that, like Hasbro often did. They do more like WEG, releasing similar looking troops who fill roughly the same tactical role as our favorite movie scenes. Since we're presumably making up our own battle stories.
Indy: Sort of. They've worn a ton more ponchos more in the history of miniature wargaming than they did in the actual movie. Most of the poncho screen time is Luke and Leia.

Neither did a lot of the commanders in this game. That ship has long ago sailed.

Yeah, I painted two of my core box rebels in Scariff themed colors.
If we can trust the picture on the front Tauntaun (and they have so far been pretty accurate for at least one mini in the box), at least one of the Pathfinders will be wearing the Hoth style hats. Hopefully it will be more than that. So far they have not varied the headwear of rebels in the same set (save aliens who did not wear the Endor helmets).
Perhaps this is a sign they might still make a Hoth trooper core set?

I suspect this will BE the Hoth core set. All Hoth-hats, all the time. Combine with Atgar's and T-47's and Chewbacca if you want an all-Hoth army. All we'd need is a commander.

I suppose a flamethrower could be a possibility.
The write up says "This expansion features six finely sculpted Rebel Pathfinder miniatures, enough for one special forces unit. " One way to read that is that all six minis can be used in the one unit. The Wookiee/Imperial Guard each only include one heavy weapon choice, so there is precedent (though admittedly there are only four minis in those boxes).
