jyn and new troops

By Taiowaa, in Star Wars: Legion

Yeah, so Bistan gives you Ion and Impact, and Pao looks like he has Leader and maybe Inspire? something about rally, friendly and suppression. And his weapon has the 1-4 range.

I'm really digging it as like, a way to get more unique/iconics on the board.

So are they a Corps unit or a Special Forces unit? Kind of surprised at these if this is real.

Spec ops

I disagree abilities wise. It looks like infiltrate says: You may deploy anywhere beyond range 3 of all enemy units. That might be overpowered, as you can start at an objective.

In that case you're also probably starting within range of the entire enemy army.

I play with a lot of terrain. It's very unusual to be starting within line of sight of anything unless you're elevated

But you also don't play with any units that have Infiltrate.

Not yet, it's still a little early to see how they will do. I'm excited for them and want to give them a try

I believe we will get new Operatives for each faction (hopefully soon) that are some iconic character. I also hope we get a generic Operative for each faction, to provide a cheaper alternative (of course at the cost of not being as effective). I was thinking it might be interesting that if they made a generic Operative, there could be the option for that generic Operative to take the heavy weapon slot in a corps unit (sort of like the generic Commander can take the personnel slot of a corps unit and become the unit leader). Like the generic Commander operating as a corps unit leader, a generic Operative acting as a corps unit heavy would not be too different than a normal heavy and maybe add some small advantage (like maybe Pierce 1 or Impact 1).

I guess good candidates for unique operatives on the rebel side could be Chirrut and Baze. Both of them have unique ways of fighting and are definetly not leaders. For the empire (AND the seppies for that matter) Bossk or one of the inquisitors seem to be the most compelling choices gameplay wise.

The generics could very well be rebel intelligence and isb agents with Kallus and Casian providing examples on how they could look like.

If it’s not Lando I will (metaphorically) eat my hat.

@Derrault You mean general Calrissian who commanded the fighter wing at endor (and the battle for Naboo?) should be an operative and not a Commander?

Not to mention that little maneuver at the Battle of Tanaab.

If Pao is a unit leader you can add to the squad I would be really happy. Not necessarily with Pao himself, but with the generic commander that can be plugged into a squad as well I think it opens the design space nicely to add more known characters into the game without making them Commanders or Operatives. Slap Baze as a unit leader, or Chirrut, to add a courage point and another weapon to use.

You could always cap them to two per army or something like that. Sell little two pack expansions of unit leaders or something like that.

I've been thinking along these lines ever since they announced Jyn and the Pathfinders.

I'm sure we'll see Cassian as an Operative. The remaining 4 Rogue One characters could be released as another Rebel Specialist expansion. All four could be in a regular 4 mini Special Forces unit -or- as upgrades to existing units:

  • Bodi: personnel upgrade - grants the Infiltrate keyword - "I'm The Pilot" :D
  • K-2SO: personnel upgrade - unsure on power - maybe Dauntless & Danger Sense to represent his tactical programming?
  • Chirrut: personnel upgrade - maybe two different Sidearm attacks to represent his lightbow?
  • Baze: heavy weapon upgrade - red/black dice combo?

They could all be unique so you could only ever use one of them in an army but can be used as upgrades for any Corps unit (or maybe just the Rebel Troopers). That would allow a player to build a diverse army, really gives the feel for the invasion of Scarif as you can enhance your Corps units for a more Rogue One feel, and as an extra bonus allows for Baze/Chirrut to be paired in a unit (which I really feel should always be the case).

I think Baze would have GUNSLINGER 2, maybe even 3. Something to represent that sweet gun when he puts it on rapid fire. One black, one red, extra attacks against different units

Gunslinger doesn't have X after it so it will only ever be one additional target

Having all the "other" Rogue One characters being heavy weapons allows them to be attached to Pathfinders for thematic effect.

For Bodi, the attached unit should gain the ability to relay commands to units as though they were the commander during the issue commands step, while having a 2 black dice at range 2 pistol for a weapon.

For K-2SO, I agree that adding Danger Sense to the unit would work as it would increase the amount of danger sense the pathfinders already have while having a multi dice melee as a weapon.

For Chirrut, granting both the staff and the lightbow as weapons would work if you could recover to flip the card, in addition to the ability to give the attached unit Quick Thinking.

For Blaise, a 1 red 2 white dice attack with gunslinger could work very well for recreating the effect of the gun he has.

@thepopemobile100 Yup, I didn’t catch that.

I think they could add a "possy" upgrade slot that like modifications in x-wing is something all commanders can take but in multiple.

a possy member would make a comander into a small unit of unique fighters that activate at the same time.

some characters could also have cards for them to be heavy weapons or personal upgrades.

There is always the options to ship several cards for different kinds of deployment with a miniature, like they do with much stuff in Runewars or the generic officer. Most members of the Rogue One crew could be done that way. Additionally there is the option to make several guys, let's say Baze and Chirrut or Casian and K2, occupy a single slot although acting as multiple units. Warhammer 40k for example does that with Astra Militarum platoons or Astartes teams.

On a different matter. Although Sabine Wren isn't exactly well received, she has a lot to offer for gaming with her Color Bombs, Jetpack, Mando Gauntlets and Darksaber.

I don't follow X-Wing. Do you mean "posse" or is "possy" an X-Wing term?

In x-wing they added two upgrade slots to all the ships and the slots were never printed on the unit cards

they added modification upgrades and title upgrades.

i think they could do the same in this game by adding an upgrade type to all commanders. Something where they get to take supporting characters

there are lots of great supporting characters in Star Wars that don’t quite fill a commander or operative role. Like R2-D2 or most of rouge squadron.

Yes, he means "posse."

Lando is totes a commander. Dude owned a city.
