Jedi Star IC thread

By Tramp Graphics, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny Beginner Game

Reesh would glance between the two before shaking his head. "Reesh did not intend to go in the building, just cross the road to talk. Still, you may be able to help Reesh. It is, difficult though. Talking about this could cause trouble, and Reesh is not sure to trust this newcomer, especially as they seem to be spying on Reesh".

The inside of the parlour is a comfortable looking place. Red cushions and curtains with intricate gold threading are carefully arranged for an almost regal effect, most likely out of respect for the dead. A counter sits near the back of the room, but no one is behind it. Instead an elderly well dressed gentleman is sat across from it reading datapad of daily news. As the door slides open he stands slowly to his feet. "Welcome, may I hel- oh my". The man would be taken aback as he spots the sheet covering the deceased.

Being less subtle than she intended Aris leans against the wall and unsuccessfully to carefully look in the window via peripheral vision.

Arvel chuckles, "No good trying to get rid of Elias anyway. He'll just stay. Might as well just say what you want to say."

Jonas nodes to the gentleman and says, "My fine dressed fellow. This would be my Brother, long since passed to the other side. Trapped in the ice...some bad mojo. Need to find a new place for his final resting. Respectful like. Dig?"

Reesh would sigh as he glances between the two feigning concern before speaking. In reality his mind was whirring as he considered the options and facts in front of him. He doubted that the soldier was a potential target, if he could use the force surely he would be more than a low ranking officer? Reesh had spend years hunting force users, but in truth his actual interactions with them were limited to a few bouts of combat. Even with his experience he wasn't sure of any signs of certainty that would identify what he was looking for. The second one who had blundered in with both feet had unsettled him with the information he had on Reesh, but surely he couldn't be a force user either. No one could survive with that lack of subtlety, could they?

He decided to test the waters, see how they react to a piece of the truth. If things came to the worst the veteran hunter could disappear easy enough and search for another lead elsewhere, maybe on another planet. "Very well. Reesh is looking for a friend, a friend who is on the run from this new first order. You see, they believe he has what Reesh believe you call the force. Powers that are not easily explained. Reesh would like to find them before the order does". It was a half truth, but the best way he could think of to measure these two without wasting too much time. How they react would guide his next move.

The elderly man would quickly compose himself, smoothing out his jacket as he approaches the deceased. "My sincerest condolences young man" he would say in a well practised tone of sympathy. "I can offer a number of services for your lost friend here. The most popular is cremation, but we do also offer a burial service out on the plains. Many loved ones appreciate the beauty of a home world you see, though I find many travellers like to take the ashes with them as well". He bends over to examine the body, catching his breath slightly as he sees what little there is left. "I am afraid there will be little I can do to restore your brother to a, presentable state, but I can provide all other requirement for any service you choose".

Elias noted that the gand referred to himself as Reesh, not gand, and not I, so that gave him a rough measure of Reesh's level of competence. It also gave him a place to start searching the holonet to verify what Reesh was telling him. For the moment Elias didn't trust a word of it so decided to prod him to see what he revealed. He readied himself to read Reesh's reaction.

Even if I hadn't seen you searching the base earlier, I would know that you were a bounty hunter by the way you move and speak, as in like a predator trying not to reveal he's hunting his prey. I can recognize it easily because I grew up hunting predators. That said I'm skilled at tracking, and could probably find your "friend" without too much trouble. If you want my help you'll have to tell me your friend's name and what your going to do with him when you find him. But before you answer, you should know that I can tell when you lie to me.

Reesh's eyes would narrow his eyes slightly as he looks at the pair. "Perhaps Reesh has made a mistake. Perhaps Reesh should search elsewhere." He did not like the way these strangers seemed to know so much about him. It was off putting at best. Whoever they were, Reesh did not want to get involved, a tenuous link in a long term hunt was not worth the risk of his recapture.

Jonas smiles at the undertaker calling him "Young Man" and responds, "Ashes? Yeah, I can dig it. Let's seal the deal." Jonas hands over his credstick and pays the man.

Arvel smiles and says, "He does seem to have that effect on people..."

The elderly gentleman would not his head slowly as he gently takes the credit chip to the counter. "Very well, sir. At the risk of being crude, the cost of the incineration, the urn and the ceremony will cost two hundred credits. I hope that is acceptable to you? Do you and your friends wish to attend the ceremony? Some like to take the opportunity to say goodbye to a loved one during".

Glancing over their shoulder with a slightly perplexed look for a moment he turns back to the customers. You friend does not have to wait outside, I'm sure they would like to say goodbye as well" he would say in the soft creaky tone as he gestures to the stranger stood near the window.

Reesh would glance at Arvel again and the alien noise of a chuckle would emit from the translator strapped to his neck. "It would seem so yes. If it was a simple matter of tracking, Reesh can assure you that Reesh would not need help, especially from a human. In truth Reesh is cautious of asking strangers about this. With this new order beginning the hunt for force users again, Reesh has to be careful about this. Reesh was at the republic base yes, hoping to find someone to help. Reesh knows that force users have taken refuge with rebels and the republic over the years, and was hoping that perhaps you may know where Reesh may look, or perhaps be willing to help with the search. In return, Reesh would be in debt to you, and a gand does not forget their debts easily".

Arvel looks warily at Reesh and chooses his words carefully, "I'm a Republic Officer. None of the soldiers under my command or fellow officers were force users to the best of my knowledge. If you're looking to join up with the Resistance, I've heard rumors of an army gathering on Mandalore."

The elderly man nods once more before carefully moving to push the sled with the body into the back of the building. "We shall be ready for you in thirty minutes" he says quietly as he dissapears behind a red curtain, leaving the three jedi and young alien alone.

Reesh's face would wrinkle a little at the mention of mandalore. He had never been a believer in the warrior culture, not due to the violence, but due to the often bombastic approach to things. Though the gand could be equally violent, they tended to be less open, sneakier even.

"Well, if that is where there is resistance, then maybe that is where Reesh should head to next. Will you be joining them? Reesh saw your base was abandoned, the republic is no longer on this world, is that it? If you are going to Mandalore Reesh would be offer to travel with you, and your friend".

Jonas nods to the undertaker and sits down on a comfy chair to meditate. Clear the mind, clear the soul. Let this mark the end of the past and beginning of the future.

Arvel looks at Reesh and then looks back at Elias. "I don't have a ship, Mister Reesh. But Elias does. Elias? What are your thoughts?"

It's as good a place as any to look next and I'd like to be there when Mister Reesh finds his "friend" but I just noticed that an old friend of mine that I was looking for just walked in to that funeral home over there and he's being spied on by a pantoran female. He said pointing at Aris Renn. Let's go say hello.

Others!

He sees the visions of bobbing lights shimmering among the streets.

"Well there are others in the area Korath. We should find them."

Reesh glances at the jedi before looking back to Arvel. "Your friend seems to be very interested in the goings on of others. If he was younger Reesh may say noisy, but Reesh won't". Reesh would follow behind the others, a couple of steps behind so as to not intrude.

Elias chuckled, forward would be both diplomatic and accurate, but I'll take nosy without taking offense.

Elias walked to over to the funeral home with Arvel and Reesh in tow, hooks Aris Renn's arm, opened the door and pulls her in too. Greetings Korath, Chemdat and I have been looking for you. I've recently made some new friends you'd be interested in meeting. This is Lieutenant Arvel Ven, this is Reesh, and I didn't catch the name of this pantoran, but she seemed very interested in watching you through the window so I just pulled her in to say hello in person. I see you've picked up a few friends too, and... one of them died. My condolences. Chemdat should be back at the shuttle we stole from Matthis Karr to escape a first order massacre he was leading on Dantooine. I told Karr that you said "hello." . To the already others in the room, he say well met, I wish it could have been under better circumstances. I'm Elias by the way. Korath is the one who trained me about a decade ago. Chemdat hasn't taken well to learning from his elder brother, sibling rivalry and all that, so we came looking for Korath hoping that he could do a better job with my brother than I could. Also Trixie and our son says hello Korath.

Aris Renn has an expression of sheepish embarrassment on her face at being called out.

"You stole a shuttle from Mathis Karr?" Korath askes dubiously, face-palming. "You haven't changed. I hope you got rid of it. The personal shuttle of a high ranking First Order officer is high profile enough, but that belonging to one of their Dark Jedi?"

Elias grinned roguishly: Well it was either that or get caught by neo imperials, which of those two would you have chosen?

He pauses a few seconds as if to invite a response, but continues before Korath answers.

Besides it was easy, Karr isn't half as clever as you made him out to be. But since even two old Corellian hounds like the you and your arch nemesis can learn new tricks and I don't want Karr to catch you in a trick I taught him, remind me later to tell you what it was so that you don't try it against him again. Also, it's looks like a standard issue shuttle, I swept it for bugs and trackers after the first micro jump out of system so I know it's clean, and I then made multiple jumps along different vectors on the way to Gorse so I know they didn't track us here that way, and I was trying to switch rides earlier today without much luck, but since I'd rather be able to run in a stolen shuttle than be forced to stand and fight against overwhelming force I haven't skuttled it yet. And presuming that another upstart apprentice of yours hasn't taken the Jedi Star for a joyride and left you stranded on Gorse and you're able to give us a ride off planet, now would be the appropriate time to ditch it. By the way Arvel, I will neither confirm nor deny that my zeltron now wife Trixie and I ever took the Jedi star for a joyride a decade ago while we were Korath's apprentices. But Korath why don't you introduce us to your new companions. Also, Reesh here is looking for a Force sensitive "friend" (Elias blinks twice to telegraph to the others in front of him that he didn't believe it) who he believes may be being harbored by the Republic or Resistance and Arvel suggested that they may be gathering on Mandalore.

As the newcomers burst into the funeral home, Kark shrinks back a little against the wall. This whole thing was very surprising, even a little worrying to him. Honestly he wasn't entirely sure as to what he was doing here still, following these would be jedi. He would keep quiet for now, head ducked down as he listens intently and glancing up every so often.

Reesh hangs back as he listens to the convoluted introductions between Elias and the stranger. As he is mentioned his eyes twist a little as he frowns. "Reesh would appreciate it if you did not just blurt out Reesh's business to strangers. It is not your place to spout out those things".

Looking around the room slowly at all those present in the cramped building, he would continue. "Perhaps all thus stuff you are going on about is not for this place. This is a place of death, of respect for those who passed". Reesh had felt a certain reverence for the dead.

Elias turned to Reesh and spoke in a calm voice. You asked me for a ride to Mandalore, and I was happy to give you that ride in the first order shuttle I stole to escape a massacre on Mandalore. However, it was always my intention to ditch the shuttle to avoid attracting first order attention as soon as I had an alternate means of transportation. And Korath has or at least had a ship that would fit the bill, but unless one of us actually asked for that ride to Mandalore it wasn't going to happen. So I asked for that ride and gave your reason to justify the request.

"You have no idea," Korath responds sardonically. "I trained him."

"Elias" Korath says, turning to his former apprentice. "Your name is, among others, on a First Order Dossier I acquired, That's why Mathis Karr was after you. And, yes, The Jedi Star is parked at the space port. There's room for everyone."

Elias: a decade ago I was an impulsive teenager constantly exposed to the pheromones of a beautiful zeltron trying to seduce me. Now I'm a more mature and tempered but still bold lateral thinker married to said beautiful zeltron. So depending on your point of view my character growth over the last decade might only be a minor improvement. But on the plus side I'm more responsible and my spontaneous and unconventional plans are much more likely to succeed now.

Being able to attribute a tactic to an unconventional tactician after it plays out is much different thing than being able to predict how it will play out. That Karr was hunting, has a dossier that presumably includes some of the weird stuff I managed to pull off as a teenager and we were still able to escape by stealing a shuttle out from under his proverbial nose, strongly suggests that being spontaneous and unconventional, which Korath has on occasion described as "hair brained," provides a distinct tactical advantage in the form of being unpredictable. It's particularly effective when coupled with early warning on what comes next.
