Custom Investigators

By Morgaln, in Fan Creations

You have to use the "Insert/Edit Image" Button and Photobuckets HTML Code hyperlink to get the pictures to work.

I did, but the forum always cut off part of the image on the right side, I don't know why.

The Custom GOO I posted is hosted at www.radikal.ru, which seems to work fine here.

While the site is in Russian, the browse button is in English, and the blue button under it and to the left is the upload button. You then just plug the standard weblink into the "Insert/Edit Image" URL field.

And potentially the cut-off problem may be that your images are too wide for what the forum wants to format. Try exporting at a reduced size, or as seperate images for front and back.

Let me see if I have any better luck. You are going to have to break Roosevelt into 2 seperate images.

Cecilia: Question. The +1 additional Movement would be netted with -1 movement for those weather environments that reduce movement, right? (I see the Ley Line card already negates that). I'd say she would be balanced though stronger than average. Boy would I be wanting Urban Environments, although they are all helpful. The picture is a bit modern for my tastes however. I like my astrolgers in robes and hats. gui%C3%B1o.gif I'd be happy to play her.

Roosevelt: Is this guy crazy? Die trying? 3 Sanity? I like the picture, but isn't the gun a little small? I'm glad to see a character with the elephant gun, but he has only 3 shots. He really, really is a skillful shooter 6 fight + elephant gun+doubles on sixes! Personally I don't like special abilities that use resources. I'd use this guy but he'd frustrate me. I'd always be running out of bullets (money). Plus he's only good for one big game hunt per turn at most. Would a Credit Rating be too good? He's very good at what he does.

@ dkw: Thanks; I actually tried what you did and had the same problem (part of Roosevelt's text missing). When I broke him down in to two pictures, part of the right side was still missing. Thorgrim is probably right and the size of the images is too large, as they are the same I use for printing them (at 150 dpi). I'll try 96 dpi next time.

Of course the movement bonus will be changed by reduced movement from the environment (which is not negated by Ley Line Map, by the way. The item only negates penalties to Skill checks). I actually am afraid she might be too weak or at least too unreliable. I also found the picture to be a bit modern, but I couldn't find a better one (although robes and hats would be a bit out of style for the 1920s, wouldn't it?). You're welcome to point me to any picture you think could fit and I'll consider it.

Like other characters with high Fight scores (Mark, Michael), the low sanity prevents him from being the perfect monster hunter. It's necessary for game balance. I actually tested an older version of him already, that had a Rifle instead of the Elephant Gun (before KH came out), and he worked fine without being to strong. I don't know if the Elephant Gan changes a lot here. Note that his ability is not limited to the Elephant Gun, so if you gain another weapon, the money problem is less of an issue. A Credit Rating is definitely out of the question. I also think Clues would be more of a limiting factor here, but the ability has to cost something or it would be too good.

By the way, I am almost sure you couldn't refresh the Elephant Gun with Credit Rating each turn. All cards refresh simultaneously, so at the time the Gun must be refreshed, the Rating is still exhausted and when it has refreshed, the opportunity for the Gun to refresh has passed.

(which is not negated by Ley Line Map, by the way. The item only negates penalties to Skill checks).

I was working from memory.

Apparently you and the designers think that. I think 3 sanity is way too weak and makes a very frustrating investigator. I think I see a strengthening of investigators as the new ones come out. I've added a variant to most of my fighters with 3 sanity into 4/6s and give players that option. They are still balanced according to Strange Eons and a lot more fun to play.

Really? I always assumed they were made for each other.

In cases of when events/abilities/effects/etc. happen at the same time, the player decides which order they happen in, Page 23 of the Arkham Horror Rule Book.

Morgain, it is odd, as I don't have any problems when I uploaded my pictures of Heralds and Guardian, and I had it set the same way with your Investigators, 800 x 600 image size.

Where do you get the templates to make these guys?

I have no idea why the picture is not showing up or why it it's all tiny in the upper left corner and why the backside is normal size.

When using the "Insert/Edit Image" function, just put in the bare web address, not the html code. And as we learned earlier on, this idiot forum doesn't like extra-wide images, so when exporting in Strange Eons, click on the "I will specify custom settings" button, then deselect the "Combine Front and Back sides" checkbox. Then post the front and back as seperate images (if you even need to post the back).

Took me longer to try and figure out how to post this guy than it did to make him.

Tried to make a character based on myself.

Thinking maybe there is a better way to word my ability but basically I can pay Sanity for extra dice when making a skill check. So I could drive myself insane.

I couldn't help uploading this:

This is the character of an upcoming game, and I made an Arkham "Investigator" out of him just for the fun of it. I made him balanced so the game wouldn't be too easy, but he still is more powerful than any other investigator. The general story for this character is that he entered our world by accident. When a portal to a different dimension opened up, he was traveling using his Lightning Speed ability and got caught up in the rift. That's how he ends up in Arkham. Not a great story, I know, but hey, he's just a fan made investigator created to kill some time. :P

Mageith: He's good but his skill of Lighting (Lightning?) speed is a bit confusing. Combat is part of the Movement phase. So if he moves to a far location, he engages the monster and misses. Since he moved with Lighting, he can't re-roll the fight? Your description leaves in doubt if he can re-use an exhaused weapon? It appears to me, his combat skill is essentially a re-roll such as the Marksman skill? If he did have the Marksman skill, he could then have three re-rolls? I'd probably just let him move with lighting speed (similar to Deputy's patrol wagon) and the Marksman skill card.

Also, I think the attack you are avoiding is both horror and combat, but it might not be clear, but again, just giving him the Marksman skill card with clear that up. But now that takes away his Bravery skill card. That might be easier to incorporate into his special skill and also more balanced because he's still going to have to keep his Will up to use it.

Ok, time to explain some things about Noctis.

Mageith is confused about a few things so I decided to make things right:

You are right about the name, it is "LIGHTNING SPEED" not Lighting Speed. Sorry, my bad. It was an investigator made just for some fun (and testing Strange Eons) so I didn't re-check the spelling. Again I apologise.

Now to explain what it can do. It is not a re-roll and you can use only one of the texts. If you use the MOVEMENT part of the text, you can "teleport" anywhere on the map instead of your normal movement. Now, if you fight a monster when you get there, you cannot REUSE Lightning Speed, since you already used it to MOVE. If you use it for COMBAT, then you do not re-roll, you simply skip the monsters attack. It is almost like you never failed. So you get a second chance, but CAN use a different weapon/spell etc. However, if you used a spell to attack the first time that requires exhaustion, then you do not use it again. But this seems awfuly confusing, so I will modify this investigator's skill. I will give him a different one (one that also appears in the game) where he can use ANY number of sword or knifes ignoring the number of hands rule completely. He cam use any number of dual handed or single handed knifes and swords in the same attack, in ANY combination. So I will remove his LIGHTNING SPEED SKILL. I will post the image in a few minutes.

Noctis-Lucis-Caelum-Front-Side-1.png

This is the new Noctis, and here is his ability:

A Hundred Blades:

Combat: Noctis is not limited by the number of hand symbols on swords and knifes. He can use as many of them as he wishes when attacking a monster, regardless if they are single-handed or dual-handed.

Tornado Of Blades:

Any Phase: When Noctis is about to take damage to his Stamina, exhaust any number of swords or knifes to reduce the damage by 1 for each knife/sword you exhausted.

Hundred Blades maybe you could say some like Swords/ Knifes hand icons count as X.

Like Alien Device and Brass Knuckles.

The 2nd ability.

Any Phase: Exhaust a Sword/ Knife to prevent 1 Stamina loss.

Like the J. Beecher Investigator, nice work.

This is an investigator made for one of my Scenarios. (I don't usually JUST make scenarios, I add Ancient Ones, Items and investigators)

Just wanted to give you a priview of one of my scenario's investigators:

First the sheet:

Edward-Harbinger-Front-Side.png

Second, the text:

Cursed

Every check that Edward attempts has the difficulty increased by 1.

The One

When Edward enters a gate, put one Doom Token on the Doom Track.

Not Afraid

Edward does not pay any sanity to cast spells.

Finally, the marker:

ha ha thanks I thought he turned out better too. It's based of my friend...I'll make sure to tell him...he'll get a kick out of it!

heres another one!

Polly-Adler-Front-Side.png

Was wanting to give here a seconds ability that dealt with Lust .

Think it would be cool to make seven investigators and each has a negative ability that deals with one of the seven sins.

For example Polly's might be something like she can't be Blessed.

Would like a better name for here Service Call ability maybe Turning Tricks or something more ambiguous?

Polly is a really great fighter. First thing to do is t have her trade her spells away to other players for weapons, so that she can do her actual job: killing monsters in the street and getting paid for it.
