this is the first time that I post on this forum... so I hope this is the right place for clarify rules.

I have a doubt on how can I use this card (Wooden Shield - Disciple)

If an effect deny to me to roll all defence dies, can I exhaust this card to prevent 1 damage anyway?

If you are attacked (monster rolls dice, spends surges, etc.) then yes.

If you take damage from something else (the shadowy figure in the first quest of Kindred Fire, for example) that doesn't involve rolling attack dice and checking range, then no.
