Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

Oh god...one of the players from a neighboring city tried to argue this and wouldn't listen to anyone, including Brent Wong, about how K2-B4 works. He thought anytime he spent a calculate he could also generate an evade. He told Brent that until a judge told him that ruling at an event he was going to keep reading the rules the way he thought they worked.

If he went to Denver, that problem may be fixed. If he didn't, I'm sorry.

So here’s where the rubber meets the road, or the tea meets the ice, as it were: so Nuckols is an excellent pilot and a fine list builder (we all know) and he took this list to ‘take’ the Denver crown as it were:

Colonel Jendon + Emperor Palpatine
Darth Vader + Fire-Control System + Afterburners
Major Vynder + Trick Shot + Fire-Control System + Proton Torpedoes + Adv. Proton Torpedoes + Advanced SLAM + Os-1 Arsenal Loadout

I am neither of what he is, but the interesting enigma is: this looks like squads I’ve built for pint games and funzies...

That is simply marvelous.

I do love this game.

Thanks Andrew 🙂

There were 6 copies of this list which won anywhere between 2 and 5 games in the Swiss. Good matchups, great piloting, and a solid list. Definitely what X-Wing is supposed to be about.

I watched a couple of his games on stream and he used that SLAM action perfectly so many times. Makes me real interested in playing more gunboats.

That Top 8 match where Vader parks behind a gas cloud, gets shot by all 4 phantoms and only takes 1 damage (only because of Crack Shot) was horrifying. How long until they introduce a squad points cost for gas clouds?

Casually following the game now, and I’m wondering- does anyone NOT use gas clouds since their introduction?

I 'member.

Remember when Rebels were the bad faction?

It's the future. They could errata what gas clouds do with a RR update.

If both players brought gas clouds, one player will get more value out of them than the other, which means that somebody was (probably) wrong.

Ruthless came up here a few days ago and got me thinking a whole lot about it. So basically this is me waiting a week after a discussion and saying "no u". My blog posts aren't timely, but they definitely are full of words.

God, I'm so super in on zero point Ruthless.

Zero point Ruthless would definitely result in a lot of very frustrated Imperial players losing games and not quite understanding why.

I am too. Let my opponent make mistakes.

Enh. If one player is just better at gauging how to place and use obstacles, it doesn't matter what obstacles you bring ... in terms of gauging their use by relative skill.

The best use I can think of for zero point ruthless is to run 5 Sabers with it. Its only use would be if there was a guy that got beat up by the opposing shots and was in range 1 with 1 hp left. Then the rest of the squad lights him up to make sure they all get close to max hits. Alternatively, if they're shooting against lower initiative guys, they plink an odd damage in to make sure they take a ship off the board.

There's this...assume 0 pt ruthless

Gamma Squadron Ace (32)
Barrage Rockets (7)
Munitions Failsafe (1)

Ship total: 40 Half Points: 20 Threshold: 3

Pushing a guaranteed hit through on overloaded green dice is super useful. If it's Maarek carrying Ruthless and pushing a crit through against a defender on 2 health, practically anyone is a viable target.

There's quite a few situations where you can get a solid trade up on the mutual damage. I'd say if you plan to use Ruthless twice max, for 'normal' squads, and pick your moment, you can get those uses to be very worthwhile. Particularly with the abundance of crit effects the Empire can play with.

Simply going around peppering your whole squad, without guaranteeing you'll beat defence dice is probably a very specific thing, requiring FULL COMMITMENT.

Somebody clearly has not been basking in the glory of the obstacles that immediately turn off the bull**** game of Yahtzee that A-wings played. I pray that there are no calls to increase the points on our beloved Blackout!

New episode. I feel completely the opposite about hyperspace-extended.

Whatever is bad about hyperspace - extended is just worse. For matchups, for agency, for balance, or for new players.

Blackout is one of the worst pilots in the game lol. Look at greendragoon's data.

The worst pilot to have been played enough to be in the data set! Blackoooout!

He's won me dice at Indy (interestingly not included at Listfortress, but I swear it totally happened and I didn't make this up, lol). #resistthemeta

Already enjoying the new 'cast - it's not really content at this point, just laughing about the same things I'm already laughing about.

Thanks @Brunas

Definitely worse for new players and enjoyability - balance is a harder question to answer, because who when knows what that means.

In terms of general enjoyability though, I've been preferring extended (I can't believe I'm typing that). I'm not sure if it's less one dimensional, or just feels less one dimensional because phantoms are more interesting than tie swarms.

I might be overestimating this but I am convinced that regardless of tie swarms obvious power level the people will generally avoid using it because they have been told repeatedly and incorrectly that its a “high skill” list beyond their mental capacity.

If Passives Sensors is cheap enough, you could do Vader and 3 Storm Squadrons with Ruthless. Vader is Vader, and the Storms ruthless each other to push crits through on stuff. That seems kinda neat.

Nope, I completely agree. So many times I've seen "gonna try a tie swarm but guess I'll let because it's hard" followed by "oh my God that was easy"
